Bryan your family should be proud of you. What you got to understand is a lot of us grew up in times of war in which a lot of men were sent overseas to fight for their country. Leaving the wemon children and grand parents to try and keep things together. If you needed to help put food on the table education came last. Then when they came home some adjusted some didn't. Just different times that you just would have had to be there to understand. A 5 cent soda was a treat. Now they are bought by the case by most that want them.

42 and college graduate.
Only thing college taught me was how to budget good enough to have money for rent and utilities while still keeping ample cash on hand for Milwaukee Best or Natural Light.
My real education came from cattle sale barns, horse sale barns, coon hunters at the coffee shop, girls of the night, and a construction crew with a shovel or a 5 gal bucket full of concrete.
I am an education advocate. You need all you can get today. But, it’s not just a 4 year degree. This world is getting short on service jobs. Masons, Carpenter,Plumber, Electricians. A trade well learned makes millionaires out of young men and women.
In college they said we where going to graduate and make big money. They just didn’t teach a lot of work ethic. That’s the most important piece that trumps education.

A good education can serve as an extremely valuable guide in life. I wish I had been wise enough at 18 to make some different choices. Knowing what I know now I'd have gone on to tech school. I was accepted into a land surveyors major but was way to deep into the hounds and a cute little curly haired blonde girl that owned my heart.
That being said, knowledge, unguided by wisdom and humility, can turn the smartest of people into fools. I wish those middle 2 items, wisdom and humility, had come to me a little earlier in life! A lot of my education has come from the school of hard knocks!! Amazingly I haven't forgotten much of what I learned in that school! LOL!
Oh yeah, I'm 60.

Born in Kansas worked my way through Hutchinson Junior College and Kansas State University by working as farm labor, construction and trapping all at the same time. Took two worthless hounds to college with me. Engineering degree, Feed Technology, and minor in nutrition, but the education the I'm most proud of is the Christian Education taught by my Mother. I'm blessed and still work at least 50 hours a week. WHERE THERE IS A WILL THERE IS A WAY Ken Risley
Risley that last line of yours has "Bluetick" written all over it. It's ok, your secret is safe with me.

X2 We are nearly the same age [70 ] kudos to you for earning your degree and your love of hounds, especially good ones. I too am thankful for what my mother and father taught me. Education starts in the home, building a solid foundation is an excellent start for our children. Happy hunting. Dave

I’m 36 and think education is important. I myself never went to college. I joined the military at 17 done 5 tours in Afghanistan and Iraq. As far as college being a mandatory thing now I disagree. I’ve got 6 buddy’s that all have bachelors or masters in different fields. Not a one of them have ever worked in the field of there degree. I’m a pipefitter by trade and I have the ability to work as much or as little as I want. I can work 6 months out of the year and do anywhere from $60-100,000. Too many people think college is a mandatory thing now and for some it is. At the same time it is a waist of time and money to a greater percentage. Look at all these schools that do nothing but push far liberal idealology. More push for vocational training would help the workforce in the United States.
Big 5-0 next month. Bought my first coonhound pup for $35 when I was 12 with money earned mowing several yards in the neighborhood at $2 and $3 a pop. No $ allowances for milking cows and working on the farm other than good meals and a warm bed every night.

Back then that was a lot of money Tyler, yes sir. Grandpa taught us how to train that pup and can't believe we didn't ruin her with the extreme training program we had her on. But she turned out to be a dandy. That was back when the red dogs still ruled.
Richard, I'm lucky to have a roof over my head and a couple biscuits to munch on. I'm content with less than most might be.
Anyone that hunts Redbones has to be.
Allen/Richard
Maybe the secret to happiness is owning a red bone. Lol. Dave
