So how many do you find in hemlock trees?

How many times does your dog tree on a pine?

How thick is the timber your hunting?

What about undergrowth?

The reason I'm asking these questions are you'd never have plus points here otherwise. The trees are tight together. And saplings that make it tough to shine. And the trees are tall.

I'd definitely take one. Just saying. There's reasons for the circle trees. It's not to hide a slick tree'er. It to give the honest dog the benefit of the doubt.

I'm not saying there isn't places here that aren't more open. But all of my hunting spots are thick like that. And some even thicker. You know it's bad when you have to tone your dog off a tree that's in a briar patch/ Russian olive.

I am not a comp hunter so my opinion don't matter but i hunt 3 to 7 nights a week year round. I can count on one hand the number of trees i said that my dog is slick at the truck and i was proved wrong at the tree in the last year. Not to say every tree had a coon but at times you just know that they know there slick. My dogs have treed on many trees i couldn't shine the way i want or see up the tree at all. If i don't see a coon when any of my dogs are not treeing like i know they normally do no matter if its a 40 foot pine or a light pole they get punished the same. The only problem i see with circle trees is dishonest handlers not hounds. I don't comp hunt do to some handlers aren't honest to there self or choose to circle a tree they know from there dogs actions to be slick or vote against the man who is winning to get ahead. Like my Pa always said a man that lies to his self will never be honest to you.

I just can't wait for the leaves to come off because when they come off I can be 100% sure if its slick or not and I'm going to be giving my dog some education's. I would say 40% of his trees now are slick, but I'm not about to educate him with leaves on when there is a possibility of a coon as we all know how hard it is to find a coon in the summer.

Be careful

Some trees the coons don't look, some trees you just don't see them and some trees are empty.
Before you correct a dog for being slick you better know for sure the tree is empty. Period.
I've seen a few very experienced handlers correct a dog and later see the coon.
Not good at all.

If he's home you will find him IMO! We have came up with so many things to find them from thermal imaging to lasers on our lights, squallers that make them bail out of the tree & get them to come out of dens, it drives them so crazy ! ! ! I believe if he is there you will most likely find him, sometimes it is not the case. But leaves are starting to fall so that means y'all can't circle them now.... ;> )

thermal

i actually just purchased a thermal yesterday to try out. and i promise you i found 2 out of 4 coon last night that 100% i could not have found with my light in under 20 minutes. maybe i could have squalled and the coon would have moved around in the tree and i would have seen em but other that that he was a slick or circle without the thermal.
