What you see on your Garmin is for your use only, not the entire cast. If you want your dog, scratch him and go get him. To ask for a timeout in this situation is poor sportsmanship.

Regardless if the rest of the cast has struck or not?

When time is called, all dogs must be handled and return to meeting point within the hour so YES, regardless of whether they are struck in or not, calling time has a significant effect on the other dogs.
If that Garmin has you worried about your dogs safety, by all means, withdraw and go get your dog. Just be sportsman enough to leave the others out if it.

Funny how a bunch of coonhunters can read the same rules and come up with a bunch of different interpretations, (Well its not really that funny).
ANYONE who feels their dog is in danger under a hunting judge, struck or not, garmin or not, can request a cast vote to call timeout, If the vote is yes time is out, if the vote is no the handler has the option to take his chances or withdraw.
A nonhunting judge who is aware that a dog is in danger can at his discretion, struck or not, garmin or not, call timeout to save the dog.
The rules plainly state that a handler MAY REQUEST but CANNOT DEMAND, a timeout. No distinction is drawn as to weather or not the dog in danger has been struck or not, or weather the knowledge that the dog is in danger came from a garmin, the dog opening,or a flashing lite on his collar.
The idea that ANY information learned from telemetry weather it be that a dog is in danger or simply which way the cast needs to walk to hear the dogs cannot be used shows a lack of common sense. Its pretty hard to unknow something.

Seems to me like on another thread on here a while back. A man was wanting to walk in direction of a un struck dog. Most of you were sure nuff fine with that and theirs not a lot of difference. Do either and your a cheater... Wait. Maybe I should go back and aee what ukc said on that thread about looking at your garmin.

Weve done been over this
Rule says you cant use garmin period. I didnt write it. You use it to score a dog in any form or fashion. Your a cheater. Pretty cut and dry. Now if they wanna change it to say in certain circumstances you can use a garmin to score or help a dog. You will no longer be a cheater.

They say they are not to be used to score a dog, thats way different than your "rule says you cant use a garmin period"
If the 8 is runnin on a guys dog and he wants to walk east to get his dog in hearin because the garmin says his dog is over the top to the east are you gonna tell him no?

Sure you could have done it before garmins, we always let a guy move during his 8. to where he might best hear his dog.

Yeah and most of the time that was in direction we last heard dog. Thats fine. Lets walk that way. Not the way garmin says.Matter of fact. I don't want to hear the words on a cast that start with saying my garmin says or my garmin shows. I want hear it. Dont like it? To bad. Thats how its going to be on any cast I happen to be on.

Rance, I hope you don't mind that I used your question for a topic in the Advisor Column coming out in January. In short, we would suggest not to call time out in the situation as you described it but it's tough to debate any further without covering several related items. It's a tough one for sure so I hope I've done it justice.

Yes, I had to come in on a Saturday unfortunately to finish this column and several others. I'm off for a deer hunting trip next week but work comes first. At least that's what the magazine department's deadlines demand.

Now one more and it's go time!.....
