They both produced a lot of pressure tree dogs.

I don't know if there is much difference there.

Where Chief excelled as a reproducer was throwing one bark, super quick tree dogs.

I'd say he threw more of that type tree dog than Hawk did.

And more layup ability too.

John, didn't they start heading the way of the one bark locate type dogs with hawk, scout and hornet though? Then other folks like yourself that liked the superior tracking of the older stuff (which we know they got plenty of tree and sure nuff stay hooked) kinda stayed with the ranger/albert stuff for their traits??

Scout and Hornet threw the quicker type tree dogs.

I don't like to get embroiled in a controversy, ad what I write is purely my opinion and I am not speaking for anyone except me.

I have tended to prefer the Ranger/Albert/Jobe bred dogs.

I think they have more tracking ability and are better about having a coon. I like them for their mouths and sensible, level headed dispositions too.

One thing that kept me from loving the Chief and Bullet dogs as much as some did was the number of hyper type pups i saw out of them.

I hunted for years with a friend who had a Bullet dog that was a coon treeing machine.

He could tree more coons by accident than a lot of dogs can on purpose.

I hunted Jewel with him many, many nights. He treed quite a few coon behind her.

I loved to hunt with him but hated him around the house because he barked constantly, ran the chain, and barked like a maniac in the box unless you kept a shock collar on him.

Lots of guys will disagree.

The Ranger/Albert dogs are plenty enough tree dogs for me, and staying put and holding pressure have never been an issue.

The nice thing about the Bluetick breed is that there are enough different lines out there for a man to be able to find just about whatever he wants.

I was going to ask what percent of Chief bred dogs where hyper,or was most of that associated to Bullet bred dogs?Then i find out it was from Hammer 3.Wow,who would of guessed?

I think you have a pretty good handle on the difference in Chief,and Hawk bred dogs.I've seen the things your talking about,but wonder where the hyper came from.Does anyone know of dogs directly out of Chief being hyper? Like White River Sugar,or Geronimo? Dogs like that?

lol I have had 2 females that were line breed old Bullet and both of them were loners, very hard headed lol, coon treeing machines, that stayed put with huge mouths on them. they were both different than any other blue dog I've ever owned. the other thing is they could care less if you praised them or not. they could also go for longer periods of time without water in the extreme heat. lots of good traits in that line of hounds. the other thing was both of mine located and checked trees before settling in and neither really wanted to be on a tree with another dog.
