May be on the right track. All the bobcats that i have treed ran like a coon and watched us from 100 or more yards coming to the tree. Also the same blue dog that treed the cat also would run deer or should i say walk a deer locate tree and when we got close the deer would bust out. I would never believe that he was running deer had i not seen it. Also i have heard of hounds running coyotes baying until the yote had enough and bust out

dave its tough for anyone to say unless knows the dog very well and would be there for multiple hunts.

i live and hunt northern nebraska mostly and have crazy variety of weather conditions and terrain. huge woods, patch woods, and everything in between. have the awesome crop ground with creeks ect, nasty missouri river breaks and bluffs with no crops and little or no water if off river, and just to west sandhill country where trees few and far between and almost always dry. cattle water tanks are where they drink.

if i hunted crop ground all the time where its usually easy dogs could easily get lazy or have tough time. other types of terrain coons really cover country, they have to.

good dogs that are trash broke where your hunting will excell after acclimated. i like when dog has to work its butt off to get coon treed. quick strikes and pop ups are fun i wish everyone was that way because im lazy but i see tracks the length your talking all the time. over the years seen lots of tracks that way end in ground catches, just coons that travel far and dont think will get caught.

got a couple old dogs that are bomb proof on trash and get it done in any conditions consistently. always hunting 2-4 young ones that i dont trust any further than can throw as well. LOL. when have snow im jumping for joy no matter which dogs hunting and along with garmin map has told the tale of what happened on run after run.

with all the terrain we have whether easy to navigate or super hairy stuff a guy can get decent access with atv and cut down a lot of miles hoofing it. thats the one thing nice about mainly hunting private ground and being cattle country theres many trails.

id be happy getting treed only half mile deep thats gravy here and from hearing from friends in your neck of the woods thats the norm if lucky not the extreme.

keep hunting and once acclimated you should have a real deal track dog. later, matt.
