lol exactly right and the way I feel frank . that coon left a trail away from the slick tree somewhere . dog just has to have the mentality to check and see before it trees .

IMO which don't mean alot from what I've seen and herd around the hunts dogs are not being bred for accuracy. .They are being bred for mouth, drive, tree and independence...I do hunt a clover bred male that when he tree's I will put money on it that you're gonna look at a coon..I would lose that money some times but not many times...
I've said this on this forum before. Even in a very leafy tree, a coon will look the majority of the time. If your dog trees on ten leafy trees and you see one coon, it ain't the leaves.
I have a two year old Bluetick male out of Gary Uchtman's Jobe.
I don't know that he is my favorite of all time. He is tighter on the ground than I prefer.
But on the plus side, he has enough drive and hustle for two dogs, and he is the most naturally straight young hound I ever turned loose.
I would be very glad to bet 100 dollars a tree on him having the coon.
I will take those odds any time.
I have never owned a dog or hunted with one that never missed.
But I have hunted some sure enough accurate ones, and he is on the list.

I have a 10 month old female out of Jobe. She treed her first coon last night that wasn't released. There were two coons in the tree. Would that make her 200% accurate?
I disagree about the possums. That is the WRONG animal if ALL your after is coons , but the dog didn't miss. I had a bluetick female. I kept up with her one time and she showed me a coon 18 out of 20 trees. Now , you turn her loose 100 times and you'd likely have 15 possums , 5 tracks that don't end in a tree , 10 slick trees , and 70 coons seen. So how accurate is that ? It depends on how you figure it. To me accuracy means just that " accuracy ". If you go deer hunting and you kill a coyote instead and you only fired your rifle one time does that mean you can't shoot ? No. You shot a coyote instead.
I got a feist dog thats a 100% accurate tree dog. All he will tree is possum. No dens. No pines. I will find em but he ain't no coondog. Never saw him tree a coon. Hes a possum dog. I dont call him a coondog either.

A possum is a no coon seen tree and a good thrashing. If your dog shows you 70 coons out of 100 trees then your dog is 70% acurite IMHO.

Use only the Rules UKC has writen not the ones you think should be there!
In the Oklahoma hills you tree severL in den trees, especially in winter. I chopped way too many out in years gone by to tell me otherwise.
I kept track once for a awhile year with an extremely accurate hound. She had a coon seen on the outside better than 80% of the time.
If she treed a den, you could bet there was a coon in it.
She was a cold nosed hound who took her tracks as she came to them.

THIS IS A TRUE POST SO DO NOT BASH SAYING I TRYING TO KNOCK 90% ACCURATE HOUNDS.
I WILL PAY ALL YOUR TRAVEL EXPENSES,PUT YOU UP IN A VERY NICE LODGE,PAY YOUR EATS IF YOU WILL COME HERE AND SHOW ME A 90% ACCURATE HOUND FROM DAYLIGHT TILL DARK FOR 5 CONSECUTIVE NIGHTS.
I WILL ALSO PURCHASE THAT HOUND IF THERE IS ANYWAY TO FROM YOU. AND WILL NOT TRY TO BEAT YOU DOWN ON PRICE.
THIS IS A SERIOUS POST. I WILL NOT DRIVE TO YOUR PLACE AS I HAVE BEEN DOWN THAT ROAD TOO MANY TIMES. I HAVE A GOOD COON POPULATION AND I WILL NOT PUT YOU IN A COON FREE ZONE.
BUT,IF WE MAKE TEN TREES ONE NIGHT AND ONLY SEE 8 COONS THEN YOU PAY YOUR OWN WAY AND WE ARE FINISHED THAT NIGHT UNLESS YOU JUST WANT TO HANG AROUND AND HUNT. DENS WILL BE COUNTED AS COON NOT SEEN AS I AM NOT INTO CARRYING A STIHL CHAINSAW AND CUTTING TREES DOWN.
ANY BREED,ANY SEX,WOULD PREFER DOG TO NOT BE OVER 6 BUT WILL ENTERTAIN A YOUNG 7.
CHECKING TREES IS FINE,SLOW TO LOCATE,SLOW ON TRACK JUST 90% IS WHAT I WANT.
WE WILL TURN DOG LOOSE 2 TIMES PER NIGHT WITH A WOOD MONSTER TO MAKE SURE DOG WILL NOT ROLL IN AND BACK A WOOD DOG. IF BACKS WOOD DOG AND NO COON SEEN,I WILL NOT BE INTERESTED IN SEEING DOG GO ANYMORE UNLESS YOU JUST WANT TO HANG AROUND AND HUNT SOME MORE.
A DOG OF THIS CALIBER WILL BE EXPENSIVE AND NOT IN THE $3500 RANGE. I UNDERSTAND THAT I AM ABLE AND WILLING TO PAY FOR THIS TYPE DOG.

must be where you live coons do not go in dens, but if you want to see a 90% dog bring you butt to Ind. it is easy for a person to get on hear and say they are not out there because have never had one and probably never will because 50 to 70 % is good enough for most people.
if a dog trees in a den and you see the coon does that still count as no coon??

If you tree 100 trees in the Ozark Mountains here 20+/- will be hollow or have the top out. Is the coon there? I believe this is the variable that makes it impossible to determine true accuracy. There is no way to know, therefore % cannot be accurately determined. We can draw a line thru a den, but that would give inaccurate %s. I've owned 40+finished/titled hounds, hunted with a world champ, a national champ, truck winners, dozens of grnites, gold ch. and several advertised studs but I've never hunted with a 90% hound.

The only way to get one that wouldn't tree at least one out of ten in a den here in winter is to have one so hot nosed that he just ambushed pop ups.
And even then it would be tough.

Greg,I hunt at night also. Please explain
Buck brush if coon is seen in den tree I think it obviously would be counted as coon seen, since it was seen. I appreciate the invitation to Indiana I enjoy hunting up there.
FELLOWS HERE IS A CHANCE TO MAKE YOU SOME GOOD MONEY IF YOU WANT TO DEPART WITH THAT DOG. SIMPLY BRING IT HERE AND SHOW ME. IF DOG IS 90% it will not cost you one red dime for your expenses and I WILL DO MY BEST TO PURCHASE YOUR DOG.

I think a sure den or hole justifies a coon IMO . It's hard to tree all on the outside like said before . If for one you have the kind that is accurate they will also be the kind that can run a bad track too. I love a dog that shuts up when locating and then fails treed ..One bark locate type .
this is just like a lot of post on here they are there they are not, this and that if you are not hunting a accurate hound you have no one to blame except your self. if you like a 50 to 70 % dog that is great.
high ridge my dog has only been in the woods 2 times in the last year and half I know I could take him tonight and make 10 trees and see no less then 9 probably 10 coon, so your invitation is open if you want to see one and I can probably show you a couple more that would do the same thing.

Jason Baldwin , shame on you for starting this thread. Ha ha.
I have a dog I consider accurate and I really like him. A couple hunts this past winter stand out in my mind. Cold moon light nights with some snow on the ground. He made three trees and all had holes in them. I did not see a coon looking out of the hole so I guess he is 0% accurate. A couple a nights later under the same conditions he made four trees three big dens and one coon on the outside , 25% accurate. Currently the past few hunts he is treeing coons seen at a rate of 100%. I would have to say that if you hunt hard year round and count coon seen and coon not seen that no dog would make the 90% standard. If you would pick only the exceptionally good nights to hunt you might have a better chance of making this mark. Even hunting on the good nights you will probably tree a den that you may or may not see the coon. During the year you have a few fooler trees with limbs running out to the ground extending across a creek or fence row you would have another blank. Just saying if you hunt a dog year round through the hot , wet , dry , cold , snowy or just plain perfect nights I have never had a 90% average for the year. Nor have I hunted with anyone else's dog making 90% yearly average either.
High Ridge , I think it is possible for a dog to meet the criteria you have laid down. Especially this time of year , the dog probably wouldn't be for sale.
Den trees
you guys that do not count dens, if you can not bring a coon up and make him look at you I think if you would start caring a pair of climbing spears with you then you would see that the dens have coon in them, I see a lot of coons in dens.
high ridge I do not know if the others would be for sale or not, but mine will die here at my house, you are more then welcome to come and hunt if you would like.
