-- What's your favorite food or drink from back in the day? (http://forums.ukcdogs.com/showthread.php?threadid=928408616)
I'm surprised none of you boys from the south said Vienna sausages or potted meat. I thought that was a coonhunters favorite down there? I tried them Vienna sausages. Those things are terrible.

Born a southerner will die a southerner but not because I eat Vienna or potted meat.
Well if they still make potted meat I'm going to try some. I'm guessing it's terrible. It has to be a heck of a lot better than Vienna sausages before you will find it in my cabinet. How do you eat it....on a cracker? Just spoon out a glob? Yum. lol

quote:Try this with potted meat , pickle relish and miracle whip mixed together. Spread on bread or crackers . Heck I had more than Vienna sausages in my dog box storage ,, crackers, beef jerky, pepperoni sticks, granola bars ,,lol. Summer hunting I usually always keep a cooler with bottles of water or a few sodas , sometimes I cut chunks of watermelon up put it in big zip lock baggie placed in the ice chest/cooler . If you got hungry or thirsty hunting with me it was your fault , it was there free for the taking .

Todd if you don't like the idea of tripe you probly wouldn't like our southern dish menudo ,the Libby's potted meat and Vienna weenies is the best it don't have a lot of taste but I like head cheese just comes from the days were you ate what you had come to think about it I was skinny back then the new the improved potted meat diet I'm gonna be rich !!!!!!
Yeah I get armour potted meat or the deviled ham. I eat it on a samwich. Has to have some blueplate on it.

Dont know if any of y'all ever watched the movie Swingblade with Billy Bob Thorton, but there is a scene where Carl and the boy are sitting by a pond eating potted meat and the kid tells Carl what his daddy always told him what was in potted meat. It mat not be true, but it sure ended my cured my hankerin for any potted meat ! LOL
Anybody hear of chocolate gravy? I remember eating chocolate gravy and biscuits. Mamaw made it for us. Good stuff. And..I do like potted meat mixed with jfg mayonnaise until it's kinda thin and put it on bread or crackers. But straight out of the can has saved a many a coon or bear hunter round here lol. Tripe and heart pieces and fatty whatever keep your strength and blood sugar up. Blood pressure too I'm sure lol
