Since the back of the score card leaves me with more questions than answers, would the Advisor be worth reading or just keep picking up bits and pieces as they are shared?

for me the advisor put most situations in perfect text for anyone to understand. money well spent if you want the answers to these questions before they are asked on here. just as the original post asked, that is in the advisor and a lot on here have got it wrong but some are right on.

Charlie if you are serious about being prepared to give your dog and yourself the best chance at being sucessful in the hunts the $15.00 advisor will be money well spent.
Or you can be part of the group that will go home feeling screwed because their dog didnt get struck for 100 in the above scenario.

THE original question is on page 20 of the Adviser, lots of answers to scoring questions in the adviser.

I don't know why anyone would wait until they hear dog D open, he has not been struck in, so the cast can release. I have not read the new rule book, but dog d can not be struck in for 100 unless all dogs have been scored and released back in to compete.

Hey just like the hunts. Some find out the correct ruling on the question and they still don't like it or want to accept it. Lol.

So, if dog D is already struck in and A, B and C are scored as circle or minus and are being led away from their tree and Dog D comes in to them...are his strike points deleted?

Not unless he trees on the same tree that was scored.

No, in that case i would minus D, the dog didnt come to the tree, he came to the cast.

the advisor is outdated since many of the new rules were updated last time, and now it will be even more outdated.

Always behind the 8 ball, still bet I'll be better for reading it. Any other good sources out there?

well, im guessing they are currently working on the third edition.

I know it took years to get the second edition ready for print.

I was upset when I got mine and as I was going thru it there were several mistakes.

now most of the rule numbers that are referenced are wrong since the new score card reorganization

You can go to the coonhound front page on this site, click on the advisor section and read some monthly columns. The Advisor book is for the most part a compilation of scenarios, and how UKC. wants them to be judged. There may be a few inconsistancies with the new rule numbers, but it will answer your questions in a way that almost anyone can understand.
A good working knowledge of the rules will get you off on the right foot, the next step will be to understand how to apply them in the woods which only experience can provide.

Thanks, been doing some reading in the advisor section already. Run field trial pointers thru the 90's and did a fair amount of judging(which I enjoy), but that was a cake walk compared to this nite hunting stuff. Don't know that I'll ever get "serious" about the hunts, but that doesn't mean I shouldn't be educated.

The wording of the rules was changed to "simplify" them but the interpretations are still the same and so the Advisor is not outdated.
