Amous was an outstanding track dog that knew how to get a coon treed quick. Loved the dog. In this picture he's training the only Red dog that really tripped my Trigger. Dagger went on to make one fine dog but got cancer at 3 years old and I had to have him put to sleep. He was a good one in all areas. I cried that day. I really liked that young red dog. I have not found a Red dog with that kind of hunt since. Dave

Grass Man. Wayne who said old Hussler never treed the Grass Man. He has lived back of New Straitsville for years on Monday Creek. I don't know why they were after him with Guns. He never hurt anyone in all these years just a poor Man tring to make it in Perry county like the rest of us. Doc and I knew where he lived. Old Amous will never be forgot or Old Hussler. Dave

Amous

I was lucky enough to have hunted with Dave and Amous one night. Myself and Tim Wolfe carried my Ch Nt Ch Moore's Mountain State Bonnie II, (AKA Cassie) down to breed to Amous. We went out with Amous and had a great hunt. One hole and two trees with coon seen and the fog was nasty that night. Unfortunately, we didn't get any pups, we'll never know how good they could have been. Cassie was out of Broad Ax Bl Max and Max was Amous' grand sire. Oh well, life goes on and I cherish the hunt with Dave and Amous.

Thanks Dave, the feelings are mutual. I didn't realize Amous had so much of Ranger V in him. He sure was a looker. Good picture.

Ranger V

I had a female here out of Ranger V's littermate sister, She was named Reamer and was a Gr. Nt. Ch. My gyp I called Chopper... That 45 lb. hound had a mouth on her that would drown out most male dogs and she treed about 100 bpm.. I got a real soft spot for that Ranger V stuff.. it is nice stuff and is LOUD... I have really enjoyed this thread..

Hey Dave, I wanna see the grass man, so I'll be out with a camera and no gun !!!!! I figured you knew about him !!!!!

My Sounder pups just turned 5 months old, so I haven't started them or anything yet, but so far I really like them. They're good looking rascals with good mouths. They seem to have lots of hustle and use their noses a lot. I let them run loose quite a bit and they're constantly chasing something or in to something. Only time will tell, but so far I think they're going to be all right.

The pup I call thunder is doing great hope to start putting him in the woods soon. He seems to have a lot of sence. Will get a picture soon and put it on here. Rich Ps I have been working him on the bench think he is capable of winning With more work.

Mark is in East Texas

Mark sold John Don Hicks from Fort Worth Texas if I remember correctly but John is no longer alive. I have talked to him a few times. He told me some of the history of the cross that produced Skeeter and he said it was a good cross overall. I know Skeeter has produced easy starting young dogs that just needed taken to the woods and exposed. From what I heard from Mark Vest and Don, John was a real nice hound that would get in the dark and go tree a coon the way a hound is supposed to.

Ann is on the left. I would love to have more HTX Hunts at the club but I can't get enough support to hold them. I've been at the club and been the only one there to inspect dogs before. It is aggravating to say the least. It is a win win for the hunters and the club but for some reason no one else sees the benefits of them like I do. Your welcome for the picture. I enjoyed that hunt and was glad we could tree a couple close ones. If I remember correctly, that wasn't too long after I had my surgery so I should have patted Sport on the head for not getting me very deep. lol.

Rich,

I'm glad you're liking your Sounder pup. I hope he makes you a good one.

I'm not real good on posting peds on here, but I have a female that is gonna be 5 on April 1 2014. She is really loud for a female, she is a real pleasure to hunt, I am wanting to breed her real soon but not sure to what, she has never been bred. I have a pretty nice male that goes back to ole Albert on the top side (great grampa) & hornet on the bottom side(grampa).

My female is out of uchtmans zeb x uchtmans honey

Honey is out of Uchtmans Albert x uchtmans Nicky

Nicky was out of uchtmans ranger IV x uchtmans nancy

Any thoughts what you fellas think she would cross good with I would like to hear. Thanks

I wish I could be treeing some. No doubt the Uchtman dogs are really nice hounds and I never seem to be able to learn enough about the dogs in this great breed of ours. The Uchtman dog's influence is definitely there in some of the Smokey River dogs. Too move forward, I believe linebreeding back to some of the dogs that are the same in another line is a way to improve as long as the incoming line has traits that you desire.

Who were some of the dogs off of Uchtman's Rebel and Stower's Blue Sadie Mae? Gr Nt Ch Gr Ch Davis' Blue Scooter, Gr Nt Ch Gr Ch Castleberry's Rebel II, and what other dogs were off of that cross?

The Rebel and Sadie Mae cross was one of the best in the breed. Several top dogs and reproducers came out of it. Harpeth River Joe was another one from that cross.
