scott
its not no big deal
Hickory went back to the vet Fri. told us to wait 2 more weeks before we hunt him so I will keep hunting these young dogs, Susie is starting to show she is due the 14th of june she looks like she has a belly full.
Hickory is healed up and ready to hunt, took him for one drop last night, treed a kitten then pulled him off the tree and cut him again went about 500yards and treed the sow, my boy will be hunting him at a youth hunt tommorow so we are looking forward to that, my goal is to finish him by the end of june we will see what happens.
We didn,t do no good at the youth hunt but we had fun, took the whole family and showed, water raced, and hunted. I am taking Hickory to Kinder tonight to hunt, looks like we will be hunting in the rain, Susie is getting big, she has 13more days to go, I plan on going to autom oaks to hunt this year and can bring pups with us if we have any left.
We went to Daisy Fri. night and finished Ralph on the bench, then I put him in the hunt, we had it won with 15min. to go and I blew it, he treed the only coon out of the three register cast and he hit a tree a couple times and my cousins dog come in and hit the tree so when Ralph hit the tree again thats when I blew it,as soon as I treed him they both left, the good thing is there is always next weekend.
Good job though! He'll get there eventually. Braun was in his first hunt last weekend at our state Youth Hunt. He held his own with our son Payton handling him. He's not ready for hunts yet but it was fun to see how he held up.

Glad to here from you coondog704, I like to here about your pups, I wanted to see if you had any pictures of your Braun pup
I posted a pic of Braun from the WI State Youth Championship in the signature area of my posts. So, it should be at the bottom of this page. Just click on it. The picture doesn't do him any justice and I will have to get a picture of him on the wood. The problem is I am the "official" photographer in the family and I have been working most nights. He is a good looking dog with a nice mouth on him and seems to be making a nice young hound. He's a keeper!

I think he is a nice looking hound, the only differince between Braun and Ralph is Braun has a wider blaze than Ralph, looks like you guys have some nice looking hounds up there and good luck with them.
Hickory became a daddy again yesterday Susie had 5m and 5f also my buddy has a Vaughn bred female that started coming in heat last week will try to get her bred Wed.
pups are doing good 5females and 4males one pup didn,t make it but the rest should be fine 11days old today.
Logan x Susie pup
Good luck with your pups Scott. Got a report on a pup out of the Logan and Susie cross that is doing well. They are about 10 months old now.

Sounds good Scott,it,s been to hot down here to hunt very much, after working out in the heat, it makes it hard to go back in it at night, its post to cool off a little this weekend, will be back in the woods.
Hickory
Scopus Blue
Sorry to say it's taken me this long to find this thread. I'm a bit slow...lol. I was the original owner of Hickory, that is to say I got him as a pup from Gary U. I started him here in the mountains of Johnson/Newton county AR. I always knew he would be a special hound. I was hunting a couple other pups at the time but in all the time I had Hickory he was always hunted alone up until I sold him to Scott VH.
I did manage get a pup out of him (Noggin) from coondogs 704 a couple of years a go. He took after Hickory a good bit. Unfortunately about the time he was ready to move on to competition he was stolen.
I was just curious to try and track him down again, see if he's still around and how he's doing if you still have him and if there's any chance of finding another pup out of him.
I hit the big sixO a couple months ago but still manage to make it in these hills...just a little slower!
Thanks for your time and if you can give me an update on Hickory that would be great.
Gary Nordin
