How many of you would let a cast come in late ?????? You say its different on the front end ( entry ) but late is late ....... If your goin to allow it on the one end then you have to allow it on the other.....

It's called judgement .. same as a cop letting you off for speeding , he don't get fired and folks don't cry out that the next thing is that cops will be letting folks off for going 90 in a school zone .. it just makes sense that some situations deserve exception .

It's just a coonhunt , the rules and way some of it is carried out just add self importance to the sport when regular importance runs out .

Im not allowing it on either end. They can cry and whine all they want. Go ahead and do it and see if Ukc don't hear about it. Your better off to run a club by the book.

In all my years of going to UKC hunts, I have never seen or even heard of anyone walking in after deadline and being allowed to enter anyway nor have I ever seen or heard of a card being accepted for scoring after deadline.

..

There is a Big difference In these two scenario's.......the Cop does have a choice in how he handles his situation, the MOH doesn't ......he only has a set of rules to go by.........If you are late, you don't hunt........if scorecard is late in getting back, it is thrown out........Period......!!!!

I have missed deadline by 30 seconds before on a hunt. Not their fault, buy a hotdog and a drink and leave earlier next time.... But yes I wanted to vent alittle myself!
One thing though lots of clubs in lots of areas signs are horrible/non existing and gps direction do not lead to club house. Still not their fault though, if I can't get there on time it will always be on us.........As far as bending the rules//crap on that; the rules are simple, direct and written out for you abide by them completely or your cheatin. Brother to a cheat is a thief and we most all have the same thoughts on how to deal with one of those.....

Provided I've not read all comments within this thread but recieved an email regarding Conditional Entries when it comes to "late runners". This may or may not have been included in the discussions in this thread. Regardless, the following response addresses that matter.

David,

You're not wrong in not allowing entry to a "late runner" calling you and asking (the official or club officer) you enter their dog as Conditional. There are two things that must happen before any entry can be accepted.

1). It must be entered before the deadline.
2). It must be paid for before the deadline.

As you know, a Conditional Entry is one where the participant does not have the required form of entry in his/her possession at the time (EZ Entry Card or dog's Registration Certificate). In that case they may enter the dog providing the most accurate information they can. The official does not have the authority to "require" any form of proof such as a note with the dogs UKC number, copies of its EZ Entry Card or Registration Certificate etc.. Instead they should simply include the dogs full registered name (if known), owner name and city and state would be helpful. Never have them guess at a UKC number. It's better to leave that portion as "NA" opposed to a wrong number that might only create more confusion when it comes to processing a report on UKC's end. And we do get a significant amount of "can't figure out what dog this is" when processing wins for dogs entered as Conditional.

Here is the part where the misconception and confusion likely comes from. Because an entry may be accepted as Conditional; technically anyone can enter anyone else's dog. Here's an example:

You're the MOH at the club. I'm there at the grounds. I get a call from my buddy Mr. Thompson stating he's afraid he might be a few minutes late and asks me to enter his dog. Luckily I have an extra $20 in my pocket so I grab an entry form and fill out his dog's information. I enter the dog for him including paying the additional Conditional $5 fee. This form of calling a buddy to enter their dog is acceptable so long as I entered and paid the entry to you.

What club officers and the official should not get caught up in or be obligated is to take calls from a "late runner" and expect them (the official or club contact) to enter their dog and pay for it. In order to keep a handle on this issue we've made the policy that the entry MUST BE PAID FOR by deadline also.

Finally, the other policy we've put in place for that "late running" entry is that when you (MOH) calls out the casts that "late runner" better be there when his dog is called. Otherwise, the entry is scratched from the cast immediately. NO WAITING AROUND for the "late runner" FOR ANY PERIOD OF TIME!

Hopefully, this clarifies any concerns you may have.

Thank you for making that clarification because that one right there is the one that has the most potential to cause problems.
Now we know, we don't have to stand around waiting.
