don't know how this got btt!

I guess I am a city slicker!
However, I split my time between the ultimate city and the ultimate country. I spend half the week in a 1 br second story apartment in Brooklyn, NY with husband and one redbone, half in the Catskill mountains bordering the Catskill forest preserve a mile and a half from a town pop. 280 with two churches, a post office, and a gas station. I keep my hound fenced in when in the country so he doesn't go bear hunting at will, and stays out of my nearest neighbor's leghold traps. In the country, we live in a one-room log cabin with a woodstove for heat.
I have never had trouble over the hound in the city. He is pretty quiet indoors, and charms the socks off city slickers when I tie him outside stores while I run errands. The NYC schools use Where the Red Fern Grows, so a lot of kids who have never seen a live hound get very excited about meeting him. He gets walked around 5 miles a day in the city, on leash or in a fenced dog run with other dogs, so he meets a lot of people and other dogs. Most city folk think he's the most beautiful dog they've ever seen. A fair number of people who have migrated from the country stop to reminisce about hounds they knew in their youth. Every once in awhile he opens on an alley cat and everyone gets an enormous kick ot of the extravagant bawl!
A couple days ago, a Con Ed guy came half up out of a manhole to pet my hound. When he came out, the hound plunged his head in the "den" and bawled a big greeting, much to the surprise of the other guys still down there!

I live on 50 acres 2 miles from town with 1 cross road in town, but the whole area is full of developements in different sections no matter where u turn out eventually hit a development. when my Gfather bought the place in 1952 the was hardly anyone around 2 other homes from here to town now probably 250 or so.
looking in from the drive

Now looking from porch this development kind of wraps around on 3 sides almost.

I dont have much of a choice in where my parents want to live, since we moved in to a neighborhood, but i make it work. I hunt and fish, we have two boats always a deer hanging in the back yard during deer season, archery targets standing in the back yard, and now a walker, which the neighbors dont care too much for but hey they will live, but i make it all work, of course there are benfits out of the city but, you cant alwasy get what you want so make it work

I live on the outskirts of a small town, (2400 pop.) in an area west of town across a huge city park (30 acre flood plain) and across the river. There are approx 25 houses out here. About half are older homes with lower-middle class people, the other half have all been built in the last 25 years and are upper-middle class people. We are in city limits but have no city utilities so we kind of run things are own way out here. Most lots are about 1-4 acres. My lot is just shy of an acre, I'm the first place on a dead end that has 5 houses on it past me. The river is about 200ft across the road out my front door. I have a small cabin-type house built shortly after MN became a state. My place includes a 12x18 guest house, garage w/ wood stove and a unfinished 60x40 shed. Next year I plan on getting electric out to the big shed and kennels built off the back side.
My neighbors all keep to themselves but are still friendly.
City ordinance is 4 pets but no more than 2 cats or 2 dogs. Pretty stupid. I'm against ordinance with an old plott dog, young cur dog, and our little chihuahua. But so are most my nieghbors. The ones that have a dog usually have 3, 3 neighbors have horses, one has a goat.
My neighbor to the rear is a vet in town but hasn't said anything about the dogs.
I really like it out here. It is very peaceful, this is probably the closest I'll get to the country.
We were living in the very middle of a bigger city last year. All my dogs stay in the house still but here the can at least go out in the yard and run. My last neighbor was a crackhead and a real jerk. One day we'd get along great and his dogs and our dogs would play, the next he'd threaten to kill them for barking for 5 minutes when we let them out in the mornings.
I like it out here, I've got 4 good spots to turn out right out my back door within 2 miles.
Sorry for all the details.

Hounds with 2 mile volume.

I live on an 80 acre farm 3 miles from the nearest town. My closest neighbor is over 1/4 mile away. We have a lot of City Slickers moving out here from Indianapolis.

I know this is not about neighbors complaing but I wanted to share this story. We have three Blueticks. My wife came home the other night all upset and worried. Someone had put a note in our mailbox that read:

"Hey,
You may live in the country but your **** coonhounds are disturbing your neighbors. They can be heard up to 2 miles away and they go on and on and on. How about shuting them up or debarking them?"

Of coarse the cowards didn't put their name on the note.

Now my family thinks someone will try to do harm to the hounds. I personally encourage them to try. Called the Sheriff just to document the threat.

If I ever find out who it was, the barking will be the least of their worries.

I did keep the note however, what an unbiased testimony on the volume of my hounds voice. They claim good volume 2 miles away, wow! Gonna breed my female next year and if you need a hound with great volume you better get you some of this!!!!! O ya, my house is 100 feet from the kennel and I never hear them.

well

I live so far out in the sticks thay have to pipe sunlight in have 25 acres mostly woods live on a dirt road have two small towns about 10 min away but if you want to go to walmart thats a 45min trip haven't had too much trouble with the neighbors and the best part is I live smack in the middle of a whole bunch of amnishmen so the odds of waking up in a subdivions some morning are very slim. get place to raise bluetick's and kids.
