Why would they drop?

Why

Why should they drop through the floor. Maybe some Southern folks that have never been will make a run this time. Also if you got a dog that has a shot at the title you will go where ever the World Hunt is located.

I thought the very same thing when they had it in King, N.C. but they had as many entries at every level as ever. Same thing when it was in west Tenn and then Rogers, Tenn. I thought it would hurt entries at the RQE's and Zones but it didn't. I expect the entries this year will be right up there like it is every year.
Sure, I'd much rather go to Columbia City but if we can get our's qualified, we will be happy to be where ever it is. I trucked all over that area years ago, it always looked ok to me.

i dont think it will drop...it just means that the northerners will have to drive further for a change. we hunt the swamp and gators holes here in south ga. good to see it come deep south

you guys are funny !!! lmao

Having lived in NC (southern Part) for over 20 years I can tell you one thing. Coon Dogs are Coon Dogs no matter where you turn them loose.

Oh the hunting is so tough in the South lol my butt. Maybe you never hunted in the North but guess what, we got rivers, creeks, mountains, swamps (yeh even in southern MI) ponds, big lakes and cut overs, and crap hole places too !!!

One thing you have is swimming water hunting and yes that might make a difference but other than that a coon smells the same in the West, East, North or South

The one thing that does make a major inpact is the ability to get more than 1 coon treed. Make a bad call and if you can't recover and make another tree or get 2 treed off by yourself then you have lost the hunt. Yes we have good coon numbers, but they don't graze, they don't just lay around the fields ready to be treed and not every cast will see 100 coon in a 2 hour hunt

Seems to me the top 20 dogs when it was held in King and Tenn came from the North, might be because states like IN have more coon hunters in it than say GA ??? Don't know but seems the Northern Dogs did pretty good in them Southern locations ??

Simple thinig to remember - Coon Dog is spelled the same both in the North as it is in the South LOL

Mark I looked and I couldn't find where anybody said it took a better dog in the south or that hunting was tougher in the south. What I did find was people from the north crying because it was in the south this year. And if your dog only trees one coon down here its simply because it ant trying they are here. You folks from central and northern states get your little ole dogs qualified and come on down.we gonna have a good time shry.

Posted by Mark A. Hauck on 01-26-2012 02:40 AM:

Scotty from other post over the years between North & South hunting is what I was refering to and I've not seen anyone complaining about the hunt being in the south ??

I've hunted over in that area while visiting friends who live in TX, and also hunted in MS, AL, GA, SC, NC and VA for many years while I lived in NC.

I will say the hunting I have now in just one night is equal to what would have taken me 7 nights of hunting in NC, and I had good hunting in NC

Basic things we (the North) don't have or have to contend with is Gators and Snakes but I figure anyone who enters the Zones, and gets through will go and why would'nt they ??

Time will tell and I would expect the numbers in the surrounding area of the World hunt at RQE's to be much larger then what they have been in the past...and that's a good thing !!

It is like you said,a coondog is a coondog no matter where you're at.one thing I do know,it will be some good eating around the world hunt this year.Them snakes and gators fry up real good.

Posted by John Gathright on 01-26-2012 02:58 AM:

mark it is true coondogs are coondogs but it is easy for a coondog to become a hog dog when he has never seen one just saying!

I still think they need to move the World Hunt back a week or 2. JMO

this will be a great event. if you are disappointed then you didn't come down here with the intent to have a good time. Hunting will be tough but we have the coons if you have the dogs and they should be good hounds since it is the World Hunt!!

I have hunted the area and there was nothing tough about it.its not south LA guys. Its just like hunting south Arkansas or east Texas. I haven't ever seen a gator in that area. I have to drive 19 hours to central Indiana so it will be nice to see it closer. Im still 5 hours south of it. I will try to qualify this year. Let us have it this year and I'm sure the UKC bunch will make sure it is closer to home next year.

North, south, east or west dont matter to a coondog...... yankee boys need to come a couple days early to stretch their dogs legs and get them over that long drive and to get them acclimated to the heat... better. Be in shape!

I think Jim is hitting on the real deal. Folks who dream of and want to have the title of World Champion on their hound will not care if the hunt is in downtown New York City. They will be there. I feel the same. For UKC to truely be a nationwide registry in the coon hunting world, and they are, this hunt has to be moved around to different spots. They know full well all the drawbacks to having it one place veruses another. They know some will choose not to hunt down here, while others the same about up north. It is really sad when you have to come on here and boast about you won't be there....blah blah. Guess what? I doubt there is anyone who will be there that is going to miss you and ask the UKC where you are and why didn't you come? Just my guess, i don't know, but a good guess i bet.

Yikes! I hope UKC took that into consideration when choosing this spot that time of year.

Posted by rump27 on 01-26-2012 02:05 PM:

What is the difference if there is a hurricane or it is in the mid west and there are a bunch of tornadoes? The likely hood of a hurricane affecting the event is slim to none. You could say that about any east coast or south coast state. And to the guy who said he has never seen a gator JOEY? I have hunted here for 8 years and seen 1000s. In Sept they slow down a lot so many won't see one unless you go to bass pro shop. Don't let them scare you off. Your dog has a better chance of getting hit on the road at your local hunts than getting eaten by and alligator. If anyone needs to warm their dogs up let me know. I have access to about 18000 acres to coon hunt just mins from the hunt location.

them hurricanes are bad on the red river. The reason you want be there probably has nothing to do with location.

Posted by kycooner1 on 01-26-2012 02:38 PM:

Hunting in a hurricane..the main thing is don't take Grandpa along..if he falls down and gets lost ..you will have to pull your dogs off the tree to go find him. Other than that I believe you will be alright.
