u guys have a pretty good population out there then huh? a couple of the hide hunters in ohio that i know arent happy if they dont kill 75-100 the first week. there are a lot of coon around here this year so it should be a good fur season. i just like to try and pay for all my dogfood for the year. good luck with bullwinkle...they are starting the pre-rut heavy here and even doin some chasing.
good looking redbone pics

yeah its the same thing here. most of my old spots ive hunted for years are leased to bowhunters. still got some good ones left but not half of what i use to have. i gave up bowhunting myself. everyone in ohio bowhunts and most dont know what they are doing. ill just stick to my dogs. 75-100 coon... no joke. all night ,every night.haha! these guys hunt city limits around all the towns to kill them trashcan coon with curs.
75-100 hides

Most I ever killed in a whole season was 20!! That was about 20
years ago. The area hide hunters would ask me how many I got
for the year so for and when I would tell them they would say
" That's it! Everyone says you have such good dogs!"

I had a good hunt last night. I was hunting Lilo, my cur dog and with Tim Lundell and his Max dog. They hunted good. The first drop we got in a hole in a quarry. We cut loos in the same section. Max went 180 degrees the other direction and ended up worling a cold track to a big ol' hollow cottonwood tree about 1000 yards away. We cut in the second spot and Max slammed a coon. Lilo came in and split about 25 yards from him and had the grease as well. Shot both those out and hit another spot. Cut them into a cornfield and Max struck a hot one. Max fell treed on the edge of the cornifeld with a den. Lilo split, she drifted down into the woods about 65 yards away and loaded up onto a tree and had a coon. It was a weird one. There was a white owl in that tree. It was about 20 feet from the coon. Not sure what that was all about but but I never saw that before. We called it a night after that one. Had the dogs put away by 10:30 pm with 3 hides to show for it.

one friend traveled to new york to hunt this week. said he planned on getting 100 in the first week there then coming home and killing 100 the first week here in ohio. like i said, he hunts all night every night. he shot 12 or 13 last night so hes a couple off the mark already. he says he doesnt spotlight any...but who knows.
I think I have a couple dozen in the freezer so far. Havin a hard time findin the jumbos. Sure sucks when your old dog dies and you are hunting with dogs that you don't trust. All said and done I wouldn't want to be doin anything else!

im with you. i just like doin it. im going to try and hunt a lot from 2am on to try and get the xxL coon. its so hard to judge size in the tree. my best dog hung herself 3 years ago and im just now gettin to really enjoy it again.
FINALLY GOT INTO SOME BIGGER ONES
This year I've left a lot of coon in the tree for another day, due to size and the fact I want the dogs to tree them a few more times in the future as I hunt the spots regulary.
Last night Bo was looking really good, and a female I've been working with really flipped the switch last night. By the beginning of the night she'd just be at the tree, and by the last tree she was running and treeing like she was on a mission.
We made 6 trees and 1 brush pile in about 2 hours of hunting and I was able to see 6 coon and harvested 3. Both of the bigger coon were boar coon and didn't have an ounce of fat on them yet. I did weigh them with my Cabela's digital fish scale, and they were 21.5 and 23.5 lbs. It's a start......

Gotta look harder to find the smalls, they're easy to overlook with big ones in the tree as well....
I saw a kit the size of my foot the other night when I was bowhunting. You woulda thought it was Spring. Treed one too the other night that didn't look very big, I was about to think it was slick and wondering why Bo was poundin the tree so hard, when I saw a little itty bitty gray spot of fur with a cpl black rings on its tail. I've never seen coon so small this time of year before.
Obviously saving them for another day, another year....

GREAT NIGHT!!!
Here is first timer 6 year old Cael Donar along with Colton holding Dual Ch Gabby's Tree Poundin Bocephus, me with the coon, and Dan Downing with Dual GrCh Bum's Treein Blue Patch. I was very pleased to get this picture, and make this moment happen.
Please excuse the "Rambo" facepaint on Colton, but he got back from bow hunting and I didn't give him anytime to get washed up as I was in a hurry to get to the woods early so Cael could get home at a reasonable time....

Our dogs are fat & just a couple in the freezer. The times-a-comin. Hard to get around these Dang timbers & cornstalks with crutches...
