if everybody hunts the same place, it dont matter, the best dog and handler should win. advance on till its over

Here's my 2 cents

How about central Mo. Some place like Mark Twain National Forest. This is close enough for folks from all over. Also it should be held in Nov or Dec after leaf-fall. Attempts should be made to hunt the same type of terrain and forest cover for all dogs, preferably wooded rather than agricultural. No buckets allowed. The idea is to crown the world's best coondog. This is not to make it difficult on the dogs but to level the playing field. Central Mo is not to rugged or to flat. Woods rather than crop fields would require a dog that would go get his/her own coon and in Nov-Dec they would have to have a nose to do so. No, scores may not be high but in my book a dog that can win in thin coon is to be preferred over a dog that can only run bucket or corn field coons. My taste in coondogs run to a dog that can only be gotten off a tree no matter how far the dog had to go to get it. I will not tolerate a hound that comes in because the coon ain't moving.

My alternate 2 cents.

If a central location is not acceptable then let's make the world hunt a world tour. Try to rotate the hunt yearly to cover the varied terrains and conditions that coondogs face all over this great continent. Florida palmetto flats one year, then Minnesota snow and ice the next, or west Texas mesquite and heat, then maybe West Virginia's mountains. I would really look forward to south Lousiana bayous followed up by Illinois cornfield races. While we are swapping it around vary the time of year to include summer heat and winter cold. It would be interesting to find some dogs that could find the meat in all of these conditions. Of course this would be a logistical nightmare so I like my first option best.

I dont think the world Hunt should have a "PERMANENT HOME". I think they should cover many, many, states and take turns every year. Indiana, Georgia, Ohio, Mississippi, Minnesota, Alabama, Kentucky, Texas, New york, South Carolina, etc. etc. etc. etc.
Why 90% of the time have it in the same ole places. THE ALL MIGHTY, ALL POWERFULL, ALL GREAT, HOME OF THE ONLY REAL COONDOGS WHO HAVE TO HUNT A FULL 2 MINUTES TO FIND A HOT COON TRACK .................. NORTHEAST!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! mix it up!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
!! We got coons where I live , but guess what boys......................... YOU GOTTA GO HUNTING FOR THEM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! You know, where the dogs have to actually spend time smelling around and looking to see if they can follow a small branch a long way to find a coon, bypassing 10 aradillos, 25 deer, 20 red fox, 50 coyotes, and 30 possoms, and then find one coon track and work it up and tree it. Get in your lousy, stinkin, yankee automobiles, load up your pot lickin, non - huntin, mutts, and drive your arrogant, good for nothin, yankee butts down here and do some huntin!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! next time I'll tell ya how I REALLY FEEL.

Posted by BALDWIN1997 on 08-11-2004 02:43 PM:

Here's what I think. STONEWALL JACKSON was killed by his own soldier while riding a horse during a battle. Look at the South's record BEFORE he was killed and AFTER he was killed. This was in all reality the only thing that saved the north's hind end. Had he lived the SOUTH would have won. All jokes aside I believe this.

Posted by coon dawg on 08-11-2004 02:51 PM:

it wasn't actually during a battle..........

it was in the Wilderness, near Chancellorsville, in Virginia, and he and his orderlys were doing some reconnosence on the Yankees, as Stonewall didn't trust anybody's info, so would scout the situation on his own..........it was at night.

Posted by BALDWIN1997 on 08-12-2004 06:55 AM:

great history coondawg!!!!! looks like I might have me a partner when the yanks come on here and start getting on us.

Posted by coon dawg on 08-12-2004 02:17 PM:

yeah, ya will............

civil war history is another one of my hobbies.............used to hunt a farm that bordered the Gettysburg Battlefield...............treed a coon one night on top of General Longstreets Monument.LOL

Posted by BALDWIN1997 on 08-12-2004 02:35 PM:

Posted by coon dawg on 08-12-2004 02:44 PM:

I'm 'bout

60 miles NE of Atlanta, or 40 miles south of Gainesville,.......or 60 miles north of Macon................or 17 miles NE of Athens.........how 'bout you??

Posted by BALDWIN1997 on 08-12-2004 07:04 PM:

coondawg, I'm about 20 miles south of Rome. About 30 miles east of Alabama. About 25 miles west of Cartersville. Little bitty map dot called Aragon.

Posted by coon dawg on 08-12-2004 07:10 PM:

I used to hunt in a UKC hunt up around there.........

Rydal, Georgia, I think??.............guy named Randall Mulkey was the club president.......good club, nice folks.

Posted by BALDWIN1997 on 08-12-2004 07:13 PM:

I never have hunted at Rydal, but lots of my buddies have though. I like the Summerville club the best so far. It's up just a little north of Rome. What kinda dogs you hunt coondawg?

Posted by coon dawg on 08-12-2004 07:38 PM:

got a good

Walker male out of Lampmans Lone Pine Thunder, a female English out of MC Blackmons Rollin Rock dog, another young Walker out of Christy's Hank dog, another Walker that is a granddaughter of Thunder, and a Plott that is out of Curtis Walkers stuff from West Virginia...........you can see his picture in the Bloodlines, Ga. State Hall of Fame results...............got lots of coons, come go huntin sometime...........ya can even bring a blue one if ya want.LOL

Posted by Darrell on 08-12-2004 09:32 PM:

I might be biased (well, OK, I am), but I think the northeast corner to the north central (east of 67) part of Arkansas could easily host a World hunt. Great bottomland/cropland hunting, thousands of acres of public land, and lots of coon. Won't ever happen though. Heck, it didn't even make the list...

coondog sounds like you got a heck of a variety there. Whats your E-mail address
