NO ..Why do you hunt the loose mouthed dogs or something?

I've broke 3 that was independent and jealous that would leave when backed. All 3 made better than the average hound. You can break a dog of any bad habit.

You can break habits and quirks but you can't splice the genes that goes into breeding these fools once a dog is born. It is what it is and going to stay that way. But I guess a man could spend 10 to $20,000 on a sure enough professional type dog whisperer that almost has it broke but needs another 10,000 $ to see it through. LOL
Somebody is in the wrong line of work. Are we to believe that a better trainer could have taught them in the running for the Triple Crown that lost, How to pick em up and put em down faster? In Somebodies imagination is all.

Are you also the Competitive type guy who got kicked out of the Church Softball league for Cussing the Umpire? My point is everything in life aint no competition.
The very Best coon hunt I was ever on was a competition hunt, but saying that, the very Worst hunt I ever had was a competition hunt, so Im no stranger to the Hunts.
If you Comp. hunt on Saturday, that leaves 6 more days of the week for pleasure hunting. If you miss 2 hunts a month due to work, that leaves 28 something days to pleasure hunt. Now Im not a Scholar or nothing but thats a lot of time in the woods for you and your Competitive self to have a good time. Me, I had rather have good company and, I guess, a me too dog.

What you feed and what you like is YOUR choice and all that matters is that you are satisfied with what you hunt.

Myself, I hunt through the week by myself in hopes of making my dog a better hound. Its not all about having fun for me. Competition hunting to me is no different then playing basketball or baseball my whole life. I put the hours in by practicing for years so that I could give myfelf the best chance to be on a winning team.

When you enter a hunt its you against the other members you draw. Now, you can show up with a me too dog, a half finished dog, a trashy dog, a track wholering dog OR you can show up with a finished dog that has had the hunt time put on it and gladly except the results of the hunt.

I'm all about having a good time and a fun hunt but its a sport and I do my part through the week to try to be succsessful on the weekends. No matter what sport you compete in you will have those who put the time and effort in opposed to those who dont. I believe and know that for the best chance for me to win is by hunting a dog that will not cover another dog. Also in coon season when I cut my two hounds I like going to two different trees.

Me neither and "me too". For sure it seems a deaf dog needs to get rode all over the country and win something or other.

I'm starting to get as aggravated as them Republicans trying to get an answer out of the Democrats. They won't say what a coondog is because if they did they could no longer move the goal posts. I do realize in the short term it is all about winning, like politics. What is a coondog other than a winner in the majority's mind? Obviously, we are willing to follow the deaf, dumb, blind and stupid in current politics. We have followed that trend in dogs for forty years. Long enough for the majority of us to think deaf, dumb, blind and stupid is the only way to go with dogs if the rules as written advantage them to win...

Oh yea? you don't believe that. Well pass your judgement on this rule. " Dogs NOT working as part of a cast".Which side of the Supreme Court would you come down on?? Let's see, the dog that ran off a mile to get by himself is working as part of a cast or not? I bet the winners column would change up alot if forty years of hyperbole did not come into play.

There is no perfect dog they all have a fault and need corrected sometime or another, anyone that say's different is lieing. As for bad habits it depends on what the habit is, If a dog likes to run deer for 10 min. or so then switchs over with a coon and is a potential winner are you going to shoot that dog for its bad habit or correct it ?

Posted by l.lyle on 07-31-2011 05:40 PM:

Deer chasing is a good example. The first time a dog does it don't pretend you don't know what he is doing is the main thing. I get my hands on him. He gets hunted by himself. If he ever does it again he is kind of dumb. When I get my hands on him again he is stupid if he ever chases the third one I don't worry about running him down. He goes in somebody"s deer pack. A dog like that will ruin every dog you have. People that only have one dog or don't hunt with friends seem to be more tolerant of it.
