Not sure what you are in but if you moved stuff after the dip in 08' when it was at its lowest, alot of it has come back now. That would explain the loss.
Alot of folks who were scared and jumped off the boat in 08 are now wishing they had rode it out. I actually sold some too in 08 and wish I hadnt!
If I were you, as long as what you are in has a decent 10 year track record, I would leave it alone too unless you are nearing retirement. Then I may reevaluate.

I just looked at the funds I can invest in and for all funds at least 10 years old, I added up the returns since their inception and these funds averaged 10.83%. These returns do not include any funds less than ten years old. Also, one fund may have been 6% while another was 14% and there were about 9 different ones available that were 10 years old or older. That is just a snapshot so you can see how I came up with my numbers.

Actually the cd was a wedding gift started years ago and when matured we just redo it. I know its not the biggest return but I can take a loan on it, pay myself back, beat any rate the bank will offer me and come out ok. As for the mutual funds and such I do that too. Havent done too bad although I have lost some ground 2 years ago but thus far it is looking like it is slowly recovering, or at least everything has been a positive last 3 quarters. But i dont play the high risk, Im just in the moderate area. I will just say that although I swore Id never in any way shape or form be like my dad when it comes to money management I am certain I learned from the best. Im not raking in the dough by any means but two things he definately taught me were to always have a plan, not just for the present but the future and that can be done on any wage. Nestegg, check. i.e. enough for 3+ yrs of house payments in the event of job loss. And second never put wants in front of needs. Yes sir Id love to go eat out every weekend but Id rather take that extra money and pay my house off early. For an additional $140/month I went from a 30 year home loan to a 15 year loan and in the process I save $114K in interest over the term plus by making 1 extra payent per year torwards the principal every 5 yrs knocks off a years worth of payments so over a 15 year loan paying the extra towards the principal I should have it payed off in 12 years not to mention the extra interest on top of the $114K and with having 3+yrs worth of house payments saved up my magic number is 9 which means I would have beat my goal of being debt free before I turn 50 by a lil over 2 yrs. so yes I would say Im doing ok.

07 Sierra 2500 Duramax Crew Cab 4x4 was getting 18 on the highway when new and added a k&n air filter and got 19. Bought a Duramileage program and have been getting pretty consistent 23 highway ever since. Pull a 34 foot RV occassionally and get 10 to 12 depending on conditions and how big a hurry I'm in. Lately ,at least around here, diesel fuel has been close to gas prices and some places a bit less. Thank God for small favors. At this point I hope fuel comes down and it lasts a long time. Around town we drive a Chevy HHR with the small 4 and 24-25 around town stop & go and 30-31 any where we can cruise at 70 or under.

Sounds like you have a good plan. Most people do not think about the 15 year term instead of the 30. They are wanting that big house that they can't afford on a 15 year note so they go with a 30 to get the payments a "little lower" and then there is no money left for anything.
The only thing I would change would be the 3 years worth of house payments that are saved up. Figure up what six months worth of bare bones bills would cost you if all your income stopped suddenly and bank that amount. Anything left over (including the CD) gets thrown at the house and you save even more interest.
If all your income came to a stop, especially for an extended amount of time, those saved up house payments would be used to survive and it may be time to sell the house. Quite honestly, from what I read here, I do not get the sense you would be unemployed for an extended amount of time
But, some people's security gland needs more padding than others. I do not fault you for that and I emplore you to keep up the good work.

I bought a disc mower in Tenessee and loaded it on the trailer and brought back on the interestate, got 9 mpg.

I hunt and hunt only out of a 94 toyota extra-cab. I bought it in 2003 with 42,500 miles on it and today is has 90,700. It gets about 17.

In 2005 I bought a toyoto paseo with 73,000 miles on it and today it has 229,600 with absolutely minimum work and it still gets 39 mpg in warm weather highway or city. Having this car and driving it has saved me THOUSANDS. So much that last summer I went on a nationwide searh for the same car and bought the same 1995 paseo in a different color with 71,500 on it for less than $4000. Its these cars that allow me to save money and afford invesments that will actually pay off in the end.

Joe, I agree. That site has been the most honest/accurate reviews of fuel mileage that I have looked at. All the estimates for vehicles we have owned are dead on compared to other users estimates.

mpg numbers

ya'll can say what you want, i know what i'm getting a tank compared to what i put in it. i drove 613 miles on a tank, put in 23.2 gallons, which comes out to a little over 26 mpg and that was about 3/8 high way, 5/8 city driving. the throttle body, air intake system, and flowmaster make the difference... that and not driving to hear your truck and driving to keep money in your wallet. if your put a little money into your truck, in the long run it will make it back for you along with making your truck last longer. i know because most people dont get those numbers that i'm naturally assumed to be crazy and wrong, but that's ok... i know what i get and i like my wallet not hurting as bad as some others.

Best way to know how your doing on gas milaege is to watch the hand keep track of how much money you put in and figure it up yourself. I had a 1972 Chevy Scottsdale. Long bed. 4 wheel drive with the granny low gear. 4 speed. 35 inch tires. 350 motor. I got 6 miles to the gallon.

I've got an 09 F-150, 5.4 4x4, that gets 16.8 beating around the country side. slides up towards 20 on the highway.

1993 Toyota xtended cab 4x4. 32" tires. 4.88 gears(front and rear). 2.4 4 cyl. k&n, catback exhaust. and that is it on mods.
mileage is around 18.5 - 19 if I keep it below 55- 60 mph. Anything over 60 and i average around 17.5 - 18.

Come on there is no way. Its always funny to read what some people say about their MPG's. Like they are talking up a dog.
