I guess Walkers are slick treeing idiots, blow through the country, hot nosed, and worthless. Thats why they win every major hunt.

A dime-a-dozen so-to-speak!

walkers !

walkers all the way ! i train two dogs a month to the public . ive had about every breed besides a lep cur or redbone here . the best one that left here was a english male and id be proud to own him . ive tried hunting other breeds but i keep going back to walker dogs . most are natural born early starters . i agree you run across some slick treeing idiot walkers but look at how many more are out there id say theres 10 walkers to 1 of any other breed . i like blueticks and english dogs but i simply cant find one were iam located , so i just stick with my walkers . my last bluetick female was coming on strong and was running and treeing and doin it good at a year old i thought man shes really doin it until my buddy came over with his 8 month old cain pup and smoked her ! blue dogs just dont have the drive a walker does , but accuracy in the blue dogs is second to none that ive seen but takes way to long for me just to tree one coon !

if you ever get the chance to hunt with a good red dog you will see the differnce most redbones are bred to tree coons and do it at a early age and are very accurate tree dogs i have hunted them from back in the 60s till about a year ago i got parkisons diease had to give it up but i tried the walkers i had some good bred walkers and not 1 ever made a coondog not even close so i glad i kept my red dogs so i could tree a few coon jmo

We was at wal-mart today and my wife wanted to go through the baby section. I agreed cause our little future cooner is due in just a few weeks. As we was walking down one isle the wife said "you know she kis going to need a walker". I slapped her silly for using such foul langauge!!!

Tonight I made a short hunt with my Walker, and My Bluetick,
They treed me a Coon together, gave one heck of a good chase, and treed with style.
Im proud of both hounds, regardless of breed.

If I'm walking to a tree a want a coon to be in it. I have a dog here that I can honestly say I have only walked to one slick tree since he started 7 months ago. If he opens his mouth he has a coon. He was a natural from the start. He was not messed with on a drag or caged coon. I put him in the woods with my Preacher's Black And Tan and his son's Wal-Cur. They turned their dogs loose, five minutes later I turned him loose. Within five minutes or so he was treed with three coon in his tree. I was expecting him to tree with the other dogs. The Black And Tan was treed to the right of him 50 yards away and the Walker was treed 30 yards to the left. He held pressure. After checking his tree we went to the Walker. He had a possum and the Black And Tan had her coon. My dog has been the same dog for me every night.

The problem I have with him is that he always trees within five or ten minutes of being turned loose and after the first or second turn out it starts taking longer for him to work a track. I generally hunt on a 3,500 acre conservation area. I was told to try different areas between drops and see if the problem gets better. I told the man that told me this that he works out the area fairly deep and wide. I don't know. What do you all think? Don't tell me I need a Walker. It does not matter what the breed is you have to do your part.

I think there are good in every breed. I guess I hunt bluedogs because the first really good dog I had was a bluetick.

I have seen slick treeing idiot blueticks and walkers that couldn't out run a bassett hound on track.

I have also seen bluedogs that could get in the country deep and fast, move a track and have a coon. Or walkers that were deadly acurate worked bad tracks and seemed to have a coon every time they treed.

The main thing I want is a hard hunting get deep, get treed, HAVE THE MEAT kind of dog.

I have hunted with one good plott. she was as good as any dog

Haven't seen a good red dog since i was a kid. but I am sure there out there.

Have seen one or two good black dog

One good leopard. Wicks Camo Jugg could compete with anything

Several good blueticks, walkers and english

I would say there is more difference in the dogs within each breed than there is in the breeds of dogs

DOGS

I OWNED A LEOPARD DOG IN THE LATE NINTIES THAT COULD BEAT ANY BREED OF DOG AND PROVED IT. AT AGE 9 SHE WAS PKC REGISTERED ENTERED IN 6 HUNTS AND WON 4 OF THEM AND SHOULD HAVE WON A 5TH ONE BUT GOTT CHEATED. SHE WON THE LEOPARD WORLD HUNT IN 1997 AND JUG WAS IN THAT HUNT. I OWNED HER DAD AND A 1/2 BROTHER TO HER AND THEY WERE BOTH FINE COONHOUNDS. ONLY 2 PEOPLE IN THE LEOPARD BREED EVER BRED A FEMALE TO HER DAD. I DON'T EVEN OWN A LEOPARD DOG ANYMORE. I COULDN'T EVER GET ONE THAT EVER WAS ANYTHING CLOSE TO WHAT I CALL A COONDOG. I'VE HUNTED WITH EVERY BREED OF DOG REGISTERED BY UKC AND I WILL ADMIT A WALKER DOG IS HARD TO BEAT I PREFER A BLUE DOG BECAUSE ON THE AVERAGE THE ONES I HUNT WILL HUNT AN AREA MORE THOUROUGHLY AND NOT QUITE AS STRAIGHT-LINED AS A WALKER DOG AND THEIR EASIER TO A GET A GOOD HANDLE ON WHICH IS A MUST FOR ME. I ONLY PLEASURE HUNT ANYMORE MY DISPOSITION CAN'T TAKE SOME OF THE THINGS THAT GO ON IN THE HUNTS.

That is correct and also I believe the name to be Tennessee Lead and he was a black And Tan and was also a credit to the Wal-Cur breed.

I give credit to the Mountain Music line for what my wife's Grandfather started the Hazel Hill stock with. Dave Dean's stock is also credited to the Mountain Music line.
