I was lucky enough to become aquainted with several great houndsmen over the years. I say lucky because they are as rare as a great hound.

Bob Burgess was the first to come into my life and really show my cocky self that I knew very little about training hounds, He taught me a lot.
I sure wish I would have thanked him properly before he passed on. RIP

Kenny Moore of Marion IN. also had a great influence on me. Kenny could make a dog the best it could be and was willing to share his knowledge with me. The 2 of us had had that rare relationship where we could critisize each others dogs and then jointly figure out how to better the dog. Thankyou Mr. Moore.

Russ Bellar has an uncanny ability of spotting a big winner before anyone else can see it, and then take the dog and prove himself right. Russ is the one that taught me that if you want somthing you have to want it worse than anyone else and be willing to work harder for it than anyone else. A more "driven" man I have never met. To know him and hunt with him makes it easier to see how one man won all those world hunts.

I had the opertunity to hunt with Jerry Winn enough to know that beneath everything else, he was a great houndsman. He could hunt with my dog one time and at the end of the night know him better than I did.

There are others that have and continue to help me learn how to become a better houndsman. I hope I can keep meeting and learning from those that know.

I remember a cast one night that had me, Pat Boone, Steve Mackey, and Lawerence Lowe in it......I won that cast but those 2hrs sure put in perspective how much you knew about hounds and I dont care who you were lol. Pat and Steve have a nack for knowing more about a dog in 10min than most do in 10yrs.

Jess Dickerson and John Ferrari can do that with making crosses...those two have a nack for getting the right 2 dogs togather and making crosses that change the game.

I already said the best guy I ever saw for getting in a dogs head was Dwayne Edmondson and I ment it. U plott guys can thank him for Heat. Everyone else had gave up on the dog long before and Dwayne said the dog would kill him before he beat him.

Bud Keller was the guy that taught me the most about hounds, and I never walked the woods with him, just talked to him while grading furs

That has to be one of the wisest things I have ever seen on this web forum. Those who know it all, usually have a hard time learning from those who do.

If I have to pick a 1st place wisest houndsmen, I would have to say Ed Mead. From starting pups to tweaking a finished hound he thinks outside of the box. After him there is a long list behind him fighting for second place that have helped me over the years.

Thanks to all!

I agree Tam is one of the best. Ronnie Bone said he had been beat by every way possible till Tam.
Tam was asleep by a tree and woke up for a second when his dog located and he treed him and went back to sleep. Ronnie said he had never been beat by a man asleep till then.

A fella known as "Sheriff Andy" another that went by "Barney Fife"
I've never been around these men, but there writtings by far have impacted me and my dogs more than any I was/am acquainted with today.
None to my knowledge ran hounds there dogs of choice were "WARDOGS"/Gladiators.

Tam Young, Most would not believe what he can do with a dog. I never saw any better.
