BIG I DIDN'T HUNT WITH HIM PERSONALLY BUT MY DAD DID ABOUT 250 NIGHTS A YEAR FOR MOST ALL THE DOGS LIFE. HE SAYS MIKE AND HIS OLD TURBO DOG WERE THE BEST 2 DOGS HE EVER HUNTED WITH. I HUNTED MANY NIGHTS WITH TURBO AND HAVE SEEN HIM USED AS A MEASURING STICK FOR SEVERAL BIG NAME STUD DOGS. HE WAS THE BEST I EVER HUNTED NIGHT AFTER NIGHT AND IF MIKE'S NAME IS MENTIONED AS ONE OF THE BEST HE REALLY WAS. MY DAD HAS TOLD OF MANY TIMES THEY WERE HUNTING AND WOULD LEAVE MIKE IN THE TRUCK. THE OTHER DOGS WOULD BE HAVING TROUBLE WITH A TRACK AND BUD WOULD SEND MIKE IN THERE AND HE WOULD TAKE THE TRACK OUT OF THERE LIKE A DEER AND TREE THE COON. WHILE THE OTHER DOGS WERE STILL BOGGED DOWN. HE WAS SUPPOSED TO BE AN OVER POWERING TRACK DOG. HERE IN MO. FOR ALONG TIME IF IT WAS AN ENGLISH DOG KELLER'S MIKE WAS IN THE PEDIGREE SOMEWHERE. CAN'T HARDLY FIND ANY DOGS WITH MIKE IN THEIR MAKEUP ANYMORE THOUGH. WHEN A DOGS NAME STILL COMES UP REGULAR AFTER HE HAS BEEN DEAD CLOSE TO 30 YEARS YOU KNOW THE KIND OF HOUND HE WAS AND HOW HE WAS THOUGHT OF BY THE LOCAL HUNTERS. GIVE ME ANOTHER ONE LIKE HIM TODAY AND WE WILL BE HOUSEHOLD NAMES IN A COUPLE YEARS HE WAS THAT GOOD.

Davy
My hounds came from Kellers Mike, Kellers Queen, Kellers Lady. That is the breeding I have had for over 25 years. I had a dog named Ch Gr Nt Ch Lambersten Coin (nick name Potlicker) who was out of Gr Nt Ch Lambersten Yeller and Nt Ch Rock Run Freckels. Freckles was out of Gr Nt Ch Hickory Hollow Hambone and Gr Nt Ch Kellers Queen. Queen was out of Gr Nt Ch Kellers Mike and Gr Nt Ch Kellers Lady. On the UKC papers Mike and Lady must have been bred to each other because the UKC numbers are only 2 numbers apart. Charles Holtzclaw Jr owned Freckles at one time.
Dogs of today that go back to Kellers Mike are. Gr Nt Ch Briar Creek Rat Poison, Gr Nt Ch Briar Creek Zeb, Gr Nt Ch Gr Ch Gr Field Champion, Gr Water Ch Eric All Grand Casper, Nt Ch Powler, Gr Nt Ch Adkins Nite Thunder (Double Shot) Gr Nt Ch Wilcox All Grand Dan (Double Shot) Gr Nt Ch Gr ChWilcox Thunder Blue, Gr Nt Ch Gr Ch Wilcox Thunder Jo Jo, and many more. Is Bud Keller still alive? I would like to nominated him for a special award from the English Association

can anybody post the ped. of Kellers Mike?

Posted by DAVY FREEMAN on 01-24-2005 11:45 PM:

JOHN YES BUD IS STILL ALIVE AND BUYING FUR. HE LIVES OUTSIDE OF MY HOMETOWN OF COLLINS MO. AND BUYS FUR THERE IN TOWN. HE STILL HAS A DOG RIGHT NOW BUT SORRY TO SAY IT IS A WALKER THAT GOES BACK TO THE SAME BLOODLINES AS MY DAD'S AND MINE. WHEN HE HUNTED ALL THE DOGS IN YOUR DOG'S BACKGROUND HIM AND MY DAD HUNTED ALOT TOGETHER AND WE HUNTED MIKE BRED ENGLISH DOGS. IT GOT HARDER AND HARDER TO FIND THEM SO MY DAD SWITCHED TO WALKERS. A BUDDY THAT I HUNT WITH NOW HAS A GOOD OLD FEMALE OUT OF A DOG CALLED NTCH KELLER'S MIKE JR. THAT I WOULD SAY MIGHT BE AS CLOSE AS YOU CAN GET TO OLD MIKE. IF BY CHANCE YOU COME UP WITH A NICE YOUNG MALE DOG THAT IS HEAVY MIKE BRED LET ME KNOW BECAUSE I SURE WOULDN'T BE AGAINST TRYING ANOTHER ONE. DON'T CARE IF IT IS RED OR BLUE. JUST AS SOON HAVE ONE BLUE WITH THE RED TRIM AND HEAD. IF YOU NEED ANYMORE INFO ON HOW TO CONTACT BUD LET ME KNOW I'VE KNOWN AND BEEN AROUND HIM ALL MY LIFE.

Keller's Mike is out of Brushcreek Sounder on top and Brushcreek Queen on bottom. That's all I know. I have some dogs here that go back to Mike, through the Mo. Valley line. There use to be a guy from Harrisonville ,Mo by the name of Tom Hipple, that had a dog heavyly line bred on Mike. His name was Wayside Sam.

I would put two of Carl Carrolls females in the female cast. Buffalo Creek Patch and Buffalo Creek Sadie. I hunted with both hounds many nights and was later fortunate enough to own Sadie. The two best I ever followed.

I met Carl after Sargents Blue had died and Lumis was very old. But many long time PCA and PKC men have told me that Lumis was the best HOUND they ever followed, not just english.

I have followed and bred this line of hounds for 16 years and currently everthing in my kennel has at least three shots of Lumis blood.

Posted by larrypoe on 06-14-2006 11:16 PM:

You wont find a pedigree on Mike past Sounder and Queen. Bud told me that he single registered both of those hounds.

John, we have been talking about this for years. Get your butt down here and meet the man. We got an article to write.

My past cast.
Kellers Mike
Hardtime Rocky
Ol' Jr
Boyds Little Joe

Present cast:
Atkins Nite Thunder- Jesse Handling
Wilcox All Grand Dan-Larry Wilcox handling
Wilcox Rollin Thunder aka Cotton- Mike Webb handling
Queen- John Ferrari handling

not as mutch for dog power ( lord knows its there)
but to get these guys in the woods togather, and set back and see all of them go at the same time.

I have hunted and/or competed with some of the dogs mentioned. I hunted with a number of Jim Ridge's dogs, Bush Hog, Snake, Houdini, Sandy II, Huckabuck. I would have had videos of some of them if Jim would have let me carry my camcorder. I hunted against JoJo and have her on video. Alsome was born in my back yard, I owned him for a while and I have video of him, his mother and grandsire. I have a nice video of Cabin Creek Rowdy. I have Goforth's Lightfoot Brandy on tape.

The best coon dog I ever hunted with was a Blue English called Gr. Nite Champion St Ledger's Jay. Closely followed by Grand Nite Champion Crooked Creek J R. Both were out of Dual Grand Sugar Creek J R. I have lots of video of both dogs.

I actually have video of over a hundred of English Gr Nite Champions and Nite Champions. Maybe 200.

Ed Bates told me Hard Time Speck was silent. Several of the other dogs mentioned were known to be silent. The English Standard calls for open mouthed dogs. Some of the dogs on you guy's lists you would have never have heard them open on a track. And, there are some that I would NEVER use in my breeding program.

I use Old Sandy a lot in my breeding program, I reckon I would have liked to see her go. And, her sire, Junior. Maybe throw Little Joe in there. And, maybe Pine Hill True Boy. Yeah, I want to be on that cast!

I have never owned an English so I figured I would give my thoughts from the outside looking in without being partial becouse of a line one might hunt. I was personally told by Doug Stamper and Ron Beck that hands down the best dog to ever come out of the Briar Creek line was Gr Nt Ch PKC Gold Ch PC Jonny Ringo. I have to believe them since they know more about that line than 99% of folks that actually hunt English. That's saying somthing for Jonny when you look at all the great briar creek dogs. I have hunted with Jonny many a nights and he is without a doubt the real deal. ... I have also hunted with a few others that really caught my eye. So here is my top five.

Longs Big Oak Pepper
Briar Creek Missy ( jonny ringos dam )
Bloody Creek Swamp Thing
Jonny Ringo
Hi Ho Silver

I was also told by the man that owns Jonny that the black face red dog was the real deal.

Having hunted with some of you guys pickes, it is easy to see lots of you buy into the hype. If you actually hunted with some of them, your opinions would surely change. There were some English, like other breeds, that were rich men spending money on ads, nothing else. Yes, there were and still are, some very fine English out there. But, you need to seperate the facts from the BS.

I am lucky enough to have hunted with most of Larry Wilcox's Dogs during the past 20 years, I have hunted with Black Face Red(a world hunt final four dog), and wish I could have hunted with Little Joe and Kash, as they both have blood running through my dogs veins. (all four dogs are in my dogs pedigree)

i was lucky enough to have hunted with blue kash. its been right at 40 years now and i have owned and hunted a box car load of hounds----never have i hunted or seen a dog tree coon as easy----as kash did

My favorite cast to be a spectator on would be Boyds Little, Michigan Swamp Rooster, Vanzants Sam and maybe Chigger Hill Golden Sonny.

The best English hounds I have hunted with that would have made for a very tough, but good cast, would be Gr.Nt. Hooper Ridge Rocket, Gr. Nt. Nicely's Back Face Red, Gr. Nt. Jones Big Woods Red Man, and Gr. Nt. Whitt's Bue Jim.

I did hunt with all these dogs and they all could for sure put a coon on a limb in a hurry.

Just my two cents
