Didn't spend all your money at Wal-mart , did you ? Glad you made it home safe . Your son sure is growing up . Won't be long till he'll be handling dogs . Yelling out the back door , telling the dogs too be quiet !!!!!

Corey

Your welcome . I hope Pete really comes on for you . I have seen him tree his own coon , so I'd hunt him by himself & see what happens . All his littermates are doing a good job . Make sure you put a tracker on him , cause he's going hunting !!!!

Hilltop Levi's Can't Miss Sammie

Brent, how did Sammie do the other night ? Sammie is about 9 mo's old & hasn't been hunted for a couple of mo's . I thought she was not mature enough , & barking after dogs , instead of using her own nose & ability . Brent took her to his home , & took her out with his Nt Ch female . Sammie is out of GrNt Ch Northern Blue Levi & Cheddar rae Once she becomes a solid coondog she'll be bred to Boone

Sammie

It was cold and the snow that had melted a little during the day had a crust on top of it. It was February 4th, and the first time in my lifetime that a guy could legally turn a hound loose not bein in a nite hunt, with the February shut down being taken out of effect. I got to the old farmhouse where I had decided to turn loose and shooed all the deer away that had been feedin on the grass that had been exposed in the old barn lot. I normally like to turn pups loose first so they don't end up babbling after the old dogs tryin to play catch up and start bad habits. I unsnapped Sammie and she took off a hundred yards or so then turned around and waited til I unsnapped Tiny. They went about 400 yards(I watch that stinkin Garmin too much) and Tiny opened. She flat drove the track about another 150 yards and Sammie started opening. Another couple hundred yards and that old familiar sound that I've walked to hundreds of times over the past several years started echoin up the holler, "Come pat me on the head, I'm done." It wasn't but a few short seconds later that Sammie decided she was not gonna be shown up by her niece and she climbed up on the big old oak and after several locates she started singing a tune. It didn't take long to find the coon stretched out on the first big limb.

Kevin she really reminds me a lot of Sis, around the house and the first night I've had her in the woods. Sis was doubled up on Levi. Sammie's built right and I bet somebody like Troy could stack her up real nice.

If I didn't have to work tonight it would be a good one. It's Girl's turn next!

It sounds like Sammie is on her way . Corkey told me her littermate brother , is doing the same . I hope she continues to get better . Can't beat ol Levi !! He was the foundation to Ron's hound's . That's why I bought her . Also have a Dancer female , doubled up on Levi . Then a granddaughter to Dancer , which is Girl . Girl is Dancer on top & Spike on bottom . Brent , Girl has never been in the woods , so it maybe interesting . Goodluck , & keep me posted .

I called DNR . They said Feb. 1st was the start date of running season . Have you had a chance to hunt Girl ? I go in today , to get my back x-rayed . Hope it's good news instead of the being all broke up inside . As soon as I find out , what is going on , I'll be ready to get back to hunting . As long as he allows me too . I sure hope so . I'm ready to get back at it . My wife found out that I was waiting till WINTER CLASSIC was over till I go get x-rayed & she wasn't ,very happy with me . I told her if I went & got x-rayed , before Classic , & something was wrong . She wouldn't of allowed me too go . She's getting over it .

Kevin my son was out here this evening 2 14 11 he took a dead coon and drug it around the yard he had 3 of the pups running loose they took right after the coon barking then he hung it in a tree maybe 3 or 4 foot up all 3 pups treeded very nice lot of fun pups looked very good for 3 months. I believe Boone put a lot of tree in them the way they were treeing try yours sometime and let me know how they do. Talk with you later Bill.

Posted by coonkde23 on 02-15-2011 03:27 AM:

Bill

I'll have to try that , or I can use Terry Tuckers coon scent . I've been having fun with these pup's . My wife even came outside & messed with them . She likes pups . Especially when they act like these pups . Not scared of anything . They chase my full size Dobie , around the yard . Get him foaming from the mouth . It's funny !!! If I don't pay attention to them , it's hard telling where I'll find them .

Sorry , I just seen where you wrote . Thank's Joe , for the kind word's . We've been putting him in the timber , broke back & all . When I get sore , or to deep , Troy will go get him . He's been treeing coon consistantly . Need to finish Anne , which that won't be hard too do .

Bill, it sounds like the barn cat will be happy when the pups you have are gone.

Brent

Your female has a very good mouth on her . I believe you'll be able to hear her for a long ways . She acts good & don't mind getting off by herself . They have been fun to play with .
