So Justin you want the tax collectors to acess the value of hounds. Our government to make laws against puppy price gouging. And your entire point is the price of a puppy being so high is the whole cause of the working man suffering to make ends meet.... Man i think you need to give a little more thought to what you type before you jump on here and post it.. Hahahahaha The price of pups is why Obama got voted in.... Come on guy you could have thought of ssomething a lil better than that! LOL

Heck, look at the used dog boxes prices on GunDog forums. There selling USED boxes for more than you can buy a new one on the hound sites (I am talking about aluminum).

we just sold 10 lab puppies to good people for 25$ and frankly it dont matter how much you pay for a pup it depends on the the dog and the owner the last pup i bought i paid 50$ and it was a local cross and she has been the best coon dog ive ever had i worked with her every day after i got her and she has made me a fine hound.

I hunt with guys who have no problem spending $40,000.00 on a boat but complain on the price of a pup, I guess its all in where your priorities are.

Many of the guys that are charging more for their pups are able to do so because they have hunted harder and searched out the best stock available. Then they have traveled and proved what they had by winning hunts. They have hunted nearly every night for years and know what greatness is when they see it. Then they travel wherever is necessary to make a great cross.

People banning together to make sure no one paid more for pups from such crosses would not help the breed. It would hurt the breed because no one would breed a great female if the pups would only bring $100. It wouldn't be worth their time and they could get more enjoyment out of the female by hunting her rather than having her laid up to breed her.

The more money that is in coonhunting the more time people can put into it and the more the breed will progress. If there was enough money in coonhunting for a lot of people to do it as a full time job the breed would improve from it.

I don't think it is a secret that unscrupulous peddling goes on in the coonhound breeds. I don't think it is a secret that people breed just to sell pups. I also don't think it is a secret that many of the programs developed all have the lure of cash at the end and are actually understood by those with a 2nd grade education to breed, breed, BREED! When this type of mentality exists, it will be hard to refocus on the producing of good dogs. People become content with half-azzed pups from half-azzed gyps covered by half-azzed males. And I agree, if its thier property, they can stick the male into a knot hole and get coon treeing splinters for all I care. But, if you open your activity to the public and various folks disagree with any aspect of it, that doesn't give you the right to censor what they feel about it. If its bullchit and someone raises the bullchit flag, deal with it.

All this talk about the breeding of coonhound puppies for profit is 90% BS. Who do you kjnow that makes a significant profit breeding coonhounds?
For evey person that breeds for the money you got 25 breeding just because they want to raise a litter of puppies. They may have a bitch they want to test, or a cross they want to try. But profit? Yeah right. If that is even on the list of priorities it is way down towards the bottom.
This boards classifieds constantly has pups advetised for 100-200 dollars. If you look, you can usually find somebody willing to give them away. To complain aout what another man ask for or pays for a dog is about as lame as it will ever get.

I guarantee you that those Oil companies are making less of profit margin than most of these pups being sold today make their breeders.

I just raised a litter of pups and sold 5 of the 9.

By the time I paid stud fee, registration, vet checks, worming,shots, feed,etc,etc I made right at $50/pup.

The market is saturated with pups right now.

I think it would be interesting for the UKC/PKC to only register pups from actual performance proven(show/hunt) dogs for one year. Clean up this garbage peddling. Nobody says they couldn't breed, just that they couldn't be registered. Wouldn't that be a hoot!

That's how alot of the European breed clubs work ... the short version is that the working dog breeds have to be shown and pass some working trials before getting their paperwork to breed registered pups ...



Folks , just because people charge alot for pups and some folks buy those pups and both are happy doesn't make it right ... drug deals go down like that every day and yall don't agree to let those guys alone ... you think it's our business to stop that stuff.

GW Bush...his first day on office, banned partial birth abortions and quit sending our Tax dollars overseas to pay for more abortions.

Obama...his first week in office..Repealed those bans.

Bush allso got into Iraq and killed over a million of there people and several thousand of ours. The government them selves admitt there was no al qeida in Iraq till 2 years after we got there and then just becoues they had the chance to kill our soldiers. Not to mention we spent the same amount of money over there as we spent on the first bail out when every one went broke.
We allso backed iraq with money and arms for years and supplied him with the gas that he killed his own people with. Reagan did finaly denounce him and stop giveing him the gas but kept giveing him money.

Im starting to think that the whole root to this argument is TOO MUCH BREEDING WORTHLESS DOGS AND DOG TRADING. We are all taking shots at each other when its the folks that breed two dogs that have never seen a coon 50 times and just flood the coon hunting world with usless pups wich in turn drives up the price of the pups that actual good breeders put out.

Come on guys every one of us that has posted on here has a some what valid point but we all are just beating around the bush on the actual issue. Puppy mills are our problem.. And im not talking about the guy that tries breeding his female a couple times a year its the ones that put out hundreds of pups a year that are worthless..
