-- DC 40 Hunt review. (http://forums.ukcdogs.com/showthread.php?threadid=379477)
It really won't help range because the sat signal isn't your range.
The range is the radio frequency from the collar, just like the old beep beeps. That is separate from the sattelite (your collar has a mini GPS in it and the radio sends you the mini sattelite info from the collar to the hand held).
The Garmins are on a MURS or whatever system which the strength of transmission is limited by the gubment.
It will help your unit losing sattelite signal and coming in and out so it will help you stay locked on better.
But as far as giving you more actual distance it won't make a difference (unless this update somehow cranked up the power of the transmitter).

Ok, another night of huntin.
Last night the DC 40 actually did a little better than the 30. We were hunting mountains in the National Forest and got in some rough stuff. Tracked both collars to 1.2-1.3 miles with the handheld/rubber antenna.
They were in water too, it was a small river/creek that we were able to cross at rapids on rocks. They looked like they had been in and out of it several times. No problems with the 40.
When I say it outperformed the 30 I mean that the 30 dropped signal more often.
BUT it wasn't much and in reality they are the same collar with different charging mechanisms/the gps on the bottom.
I can't tell any difference in performance YET.
I will keep posting my experience, but right now the 40 seems to be just as good as the 30 but with a better charging system.
I will say that I do NOT think it is better, I think they perform about the same.

Another hunt last night. Another good night.
Both the 30 and 40 performed well.
No issues with either of them.
It appears that the 40 is just a 30 with a better charging system and collar.
Not much difference between the two.
I have not had any issues and it doesn't lose signal like it used to since I updated the collar (even the way it used to be it would lose then pick back up in the blink of an eye so even then it wasn't a big deal).
It's a matter of durability now so we'll see.

The technology is there if people would take the time to learn how to use it.

Thanks Bill but I still not haveing luck it says not upgrade available every time. I'm not worried I never had much problem anyways.
