-- Porkies in P.A.?? (http://forums.ukcdogs.com/showthread.php?threadid=372319)
We use hemostats and needle nosed pliers. Both worked fine for us, but we have never had to pull quills more then 2 or 3 times. Well except for the neighbors dog, who must really hate them a lot, he goes out looking for them and I guess is darn good at it, as we have had to pull quills from him 9 or 10 times since last year.

I bekong to the meadville club. I have also lived here and hunted here all of my 34 years. I have never run into a porkie. I know you might run into one somewhere out of the club but You gotta better chance of treeing a coon than finding a porkie. Some of the posts on here make it sound like you can't go out the door without stepping on a pin cushon. I hope you decide to make the run north cause you'll have a good time.

Thanks.................
Since this post came out I have seen 2 road killed porkypines right around my hunting spots. Hopefully my dog learned her lesson the first time because I don't feel like contributing any more money to my Vets kids college fund!!!!!

I guess it is no different than dog running a deer, coyote, fox or treeing a possum down here, I dont a have any problems treeing a coon here so it shouldnt be any different there. In some places here where I hunt there are alot of Beavers and have seen other peoples dogs bay them, but myself have never had a problem with it. So maybe they want mess with a porkie.

pretty thick here !!! if my jet dog is on the leash he will step in front of you and stand in your way almost put the boot to him a few feet further down trail big porky if you cut him loose and he don't get gone you can bet there will be one close by seen porkies many times over the years 7yrs old now pulled 6 quilles out of his nose 1 time when he was young and he never has barked at one 1 smart hound
today first thing my walker found one that cut the day short
Quills/eye
Maine is loaded with them.along the coast is the worst.they enjoy the salt on the ocean coast. From what I've see most dogs will dive right on one if they have a chance.Have one male that lost a eye to them quills. He had to have two surguries and I still pulled 30+ quills after that. His eye was deadend do to the trauma. We kill all ours in apple orchards in the fall.during the day. They will be treed around the out skirts of the orchard.Bring lots of ammo!

how?
How does the blanket work with helping get the quills out?
