Shaker thats the same way i feel most people just mess with there dogs when they put them in the truck i try to mess with mine for at least 30 minutes a day every day...if your dog has trust in you he will become your partner not just a dog...and in the end you will have alot more fun and trust your partner...We need to get together and go hunting sometime...

Ditto on the check cord at home

Another idea I use when I get them in the brush is to have a lighted collar on the dog. If I see them out there and they are not on a track, I call them in and pet them up and send them back out. With the lighted collar, I can tell if they are listening or do I need to melt the wax out of their ears. lol I have had several comments about how I can call my dog in when the hunt time is up. Life is too short to run around half the night hoping dog will get treed, so one can catch their dog. I was guiding our state youth hunt this summer and I had a 17 yr. old in my cast. When the hunt was over, he just went and sit on the tail gate. I told him that his dog was just in that ditch about 100 yd away and he said that the only way to catch him was at the tree. Long story short, about 20 minutes later the dog came trotting down the road, this young man walked up to the dog, put the lead on him and whipped the dog all the way to the truck. I had just left and didn't witness this or I would have had him written up.

i have never owned a dog that i couldn't call when i would whistle em in,they had too be on a good track to ignore me.i listened to my dad and he never shocked me,but he did use switches and belts(he only had too use those once).

Now I wonder why the young mans dog wouldn't come. It has all ways amaised me about people that will whip a dog when it comes to them. Then wonder why it won't every time.

I never got that either. Didn't seem to add up to me, seems the dog could get the idea you were whippin it BECAUSE it came to you when you called.

Well I have 1/2 of a 9th. grade education so I am pretty stupid but if you beat my azz whin I come to you. I am going to hide am azz next time. LOL

You have to wonder where he learned it.
I've also chased my dogs to catch them also. But never whooped them because of my failings has a trainer. I solved my problem by learning how to do it right. ( E-collar + rope) Sure is nice to just call them and they come. Unless their treed. They ain't moving.

That's what I do with mine. I hate hollering through the woods for a dog. This way I can call them back without making a sound and they come looking for me.
