Do What?

Blueticker: So what your saying is if my dog strikes first, and then mine beats yours to the tree. That my dog stole your dogs tree, because your dog is slower on track? I'm confused.

What I'm saying is, you hunt one of the tailgaters with a coondog and they look good. That isn't all that hard to understand!!

No friend you have it all wrong. It's the "other" breed that slows my casts down but to each his own blue way.

The Walker breeders as a whole are LESS jealous of one another than the other breeds.

Best post yet!!!

Posted by blueticker on 12-10-2009 08:16 PM:

I've seen some super good walker hounds and shouldn't made stupid comments on this board. However, if you believe those walker dogs are leaps and bounds above other breeds when it comes to treeing coon night after night by themselves your wrong. I hunt with many and haven't seen that to be true.

Walker dogs have been bred to win, and they show their breeding...whether through pursuing that goal, traits have been left behind that would exclude them from being a year round cooner that is a pleasure to hunt, is a matter of opinion...and I wont give mine ....

Posted by EnglishBabe on 12-10-2009 10:10 PM:

Seriously...What does it matter? If a dog does the job they are bred to do, what does the color or breed have to do with any of it? And why is it always Walker people that scream the loudest that their breed is the best? Back in 1950, there was no such thing as a Treeing Walker or a Bluetick, they were all English Coonhounds.

You all can post to and fro on this forever and it won't change a thing. For heaven sakes, haven't you all learned from previous posts that these type of posts go no where, usually turn ugly and get deleted from the board. Come on people, let it go.

First off EnglishBabe you need to check your history. It was in 1945 Walkers was registered as a seperate breed not 1950.
But anyway.
Like Hobo said the walker breeders are not jealous of each other or each others lines like the offbreed breeders are.As a rule we could care less who owns the dog if we like what its throwing we dig in our billfolds and breed to it or buy a puppy off of it.Always going for improvement no matter who owns the dog we want something off of.
Where the offbreed breeders could see a where a cross would make their line and or breed better but won't make the cross or whaever cause its not from their line or because who ever owns the dog they could breed to did something they never liked 50 years ago and because of stupid stuff like that the offbreeds will still be sucking hind tit.
But anyway carry on.

theres no need to make this a breed war. theres good dogs of every breed. this post was started asking why walkers were the most popular.

Why are they more popular cause they will breed anything to anything not look at hunting styles and see how they match up they look at papers...Papers dont make dogs boys and girls...

Posted by elvis on 12-11-2009 12:18 AM:

I dont care what type of dog you like, it can be found within the walker breed. Other than color of course.

I have to chuckle when I hear guys say, well if the world hunt was held here at this time of year under x conditions, this breed of dog would win.
Sorry but the walker breed has just as many if not more of any type of dog you wanna describe.

Cant help you if you hate the color, but other than that there is nothing left to hate.

Oh yea, the same can be said for the owners and handlers. You can find the same type you hate in your breed too.

Posted by Stokes08 on 12-11-2009 12:33 AM:

nicly said about the handlers Elvis but i just have had more luck with red dogs belive me i used to hunt Walkers and just got tired of walking to slick treeing dogs...nothing aganist them cause they do win but i belive its a numbers thing

Posted by Justin B on 12-11-2009 01:01 AM:

i have to say this numbers thing is the single most ignorant thing anyone can say. the world hunt for example is set up so if you win your cast you advance wether your dog is tri color, black, blue or whatever numbers have nothing to do with it. there is a reason there are more walkers. when people quite useing that excuse and start breeding for better dogs you might get somewhere.

Posted by hillbilly56 on 12-11-2009 01:53 AM:

walkerdogs

like i said in a earlier post them walkers is bred to go a lot of people like them kind that dont come back never told this in my earlier post i hunted with a older fellow he had a nite champion dog he treed one night my red gyp wasnt treeing with him i was really upset with her i told this fellow i had a coondog when we got to tree his highpowerd walker had a old slick tail grinner up a sapling then i know why my gyp didnt tree i also give 400 dollars for a pair of pups out of the hickory nut harry dog they never did nothing but stay ay your feet that pretty much did for me with walkers but like somebody people can argue about dogs and what breed is the best its what breed you like and thats why people fuss if its your breed that they are bad mouthing why cant we all get along there is good and bad in all breeds thats a fact i like my redbones thats why i keep red dogs

Our area, it's Redbones. I think the Walkers are popular because of the monkey see, monkey do. Plus their numbers are high, so naturally, they are going to dominate. We started out in Walkers, then got into Blueticks and from there, we have only English, although we did have us a nice Plott for a while, and a good number of Redbones. It's all a matter of personal choice, there are good and bad in ALL breeds, but if you conquer by numbers, the Walkers would win.

i wonder why their numbers are higher, ??????

Good God. Not another one of these.

LETS SEE WHO WINS THE GRAND AMERICAN, THE WINTER CLASSIC, AND THE AKC WORLD HUNT IN THE NEXT FEW MONTHS.

It's because there are more Walkers??? Come on, give me a break!!

My Walkers have a cold nose, but run it fast. That may be more than some of you can swallow. They open on tracks that other dogs can't or won't. And they finish it. With the coon. And they do it fast. Thats why Walkers win. Sure there are terrible Walkers....... there are also terrible blues, reds, b&t's, plotts, etc. Every breed has good and bad bloodlines. It's just not as hard to find a good Walker... just do your homework. There must be a reason there are so many, and why they win. Stop making excuses.

Stokes you just refuse to believe the truth that walkers are infact the best overall breed! Slice it! Dice it! Chop it up until you throw it up but it's a FACT!

My guess is you have hunted with at most 3 or 4 walkers and they either looked like crap or smoked you. Never base youre oppinion on a select few dogs. If you honestly think that redbones are better then enter all the prohunts this year and travel around and win all these walker dogs money. It should be easy the way you describe it I mean walkers just win because there are so many of them. Ill also add this there's no talking sense into someone that refuses to believe you.

It amazes me how someone can badmouth a breed that has pulled so far ahead of all the rest. I can't count on all my fingers and toes as to how many people I have hunted with that have switched to walkers. There's a reasaon for it, they want to win. They want to show up to a hunt with confidence. My dogs are good and im proud of it!!!!!!!! Im not bragging on them I have worked my butt off trying to train and hunt good sollid coon dogs.
