I don't have any pictures but my brother lives in grayson county, Ky and has seen a big yellow cat that he says was as big as a german sheperd dog and has a long tail. He saw it off and on for three or four months. This happened about 6 or 7 years ago. I can't say about all the threads on here but his story I will take as gospel.

Cats

There are plenty of bobcats in PA. I've seen several while out hunting. Treed one (and kept it up) once. Had one killed on the road by my house about 3 years ago. From your description, it was not likely a bobcat.

A fox can let out some pretty crazy screams. That's a possibility. Not being there to hear it, I wouldn't say for sure that was it.

We do have cougars in PA. I have heard a cougar (it's unlike anything else I've ever heard). I've also seen one in the woods (much too close for my comfort). Carrying a single-shot .22 I wasn't going to shoot at it (didn't want to piss it off). I just wanted to get to my dog and get out of the woods.

Black Panthers. Have never seen one. Don't really want to. Have a friend in WV that has seen one.

Now, I don't really believe the Game Commission has stocked cougars. They've always been here. The Game Commission has denied their existence in the past, then, when given proof, adopted the "escaped pet theory"-again not true!!!

How many Game Commission official spend a lot of time in the woods at night? How many coonhunters spend a lot of time in the woods at night? So, who's more likely to see rare nocturnal animals? Pretty obvious!!! And, sometimes these dogs will put us into spots that none of us would go to by choice.

Sorry I asked!!!

I wasn't trying to start a debate and bring up the the infamous black panther stories again. I just wanted to know if bobcats carried on that way and if that could have been what it was. I won't dismiss a regular panther theory because last summer a large cat was on a trail camera about 3-4 miles from where I was the other night. I have came up close to panthers in CA and they did scream like that, it was more like a growl, or grumble. The other night it was a shrill screech that almost made you pee yourself.
Honalieh,
Not to challenge you knowledge but why not a bobcat? There is a big Tom that hangs out about a mile inside the gamelands from where I was. Matter afact they are pretty prevalent in Centre county now. I am just curious, that is the only way to learn.

No way to know for sure, but your description (multiple screams at distances apart) sounds very much like a fox trying to draw attention (possibly away from a den)--- and they can let out some crazy screams. And, it's the right time of the year for them to be denning up with pups.

Again, no way to be 100% sure, but the above sounds like the MOST PROBABLE scenario to me.
