-- diamond dog food ? (http://forums.ukcdogs.com/showthread.php?threadid=254985)

Johnny Altman, are you tryin to be a distributor or dealer or something? Seems like you want a bunch of input. I can get Diamond at real good prices just down the road, my buddy is a distributor. I have fed some diamond product recently. I would honestly rather not feed dogs at all if I had to feed Diamond exclusivley. We fed diamond back in its heyday. Its just okay, not great, not bad, just okay.

at lest diamond did a recall while the product was fresh i have seen other recalls for the same problem months after the product was past expiration date on the bags.
do you really think purina never had the same problem cause i remember when they did and food wasn't recalled i also remember when purina product wiped whole herds of cattle out a few years back.
i have done research and have learned corn can bee tested clean and hours later containted the same toxin that diamond had'
sunshine mills manufactures many differant brands of dog and pet food and recently had a recall for tainted food products that encompassed many brands.
i believe diamond's new improved forula is actualy a comeback of there old formula as it looks like the original and all my hounds really like it

Yeah, Diamond was quick on the recall. Six months after the fact. Don't think Diamond paid for proof. I gave them all the proof they could stand. But if you like Diamond; by all means feed it. Just don't act surprised later.

We switched because it was to much for the pups to handle. There stool was loose. They diamond vet said they needed to be on a Large Breed puppy food.

I had mine on Dog Chow and with this hard winter ribs were starting to show. Started feeding Diamond hi-energy, Good shiny coats with some meat over the ribs. I fed Diamond before the aflatoxin deal but switched. I'm staying with Diamond and it's 50 lbs.

We fed our dogs through the re-call, I guess when you feed a formula that doesn't contain corn you don't have to worry about the aflo-toxins on the corn. I'm not an expert on it and I've already explained the reasons that I feed it.....That's all that I can do, you aren't going to change my mind on it until I see a change in the dogs JMO. ALL dry/canned dog food and catfood is going to have problems sooner or later and all I can say is that it SUCKS. With my luck the day I'd switch to something else, that product would come out with a re-call! lol...

Look at people food, just because all peanut products were recalled with salmonella contamination does that mean you are going to quit eating peanut butter the rest of your life? (that is if you liked it before)....

Seen a new food out at TSC, called "Call of the Wild"....Any body feed it or heard about it? It doesn't contain any grains or by-products, just meat and veggies, looked awesome but not on the wallet. It was $41 for a 20# bag on the Wetlands formula (I think it was duck meat ect.) They had two or three other formulas, one including venison, one with salmon and one with bison (all had wolves on the bag).....

I feed Diamond Performance 30/20 and my dogs do EXCELLENT on it. I train alot of tough miles a week with my team and this is the only food I have fed that has kept my dogs in total top condition. I have tryed Pro Plan Performance, but didnt like the results, seemed my dogs werent focused and driven like they were on Diamond. It also didnt mix well with water (I hydrate my dogs prior to running and at every meal) because the oil clotted up alongside the bowls like lard. It was also MUCH more exspensive than I can readily afford right now (and more than I think it's worth).
My dogs coats are beautiful, full of sheen and rich in color. Their stools are tight, dark and firm and at minimal amounts.
This is a food I will keep on bragging about and fully recommending to ANYONE with hardworking athletes who need a perfectly blended kibble. I pay 23.50$ per 40 lb bag at the local Hunter and Hound Supply store. I usually feed Diamond Hi-Energy (24/20) during the off season when we arent doing hard training and again everyone stays in peak physical and mental condition.
IMO any kibble has the risk of being recalled and/or having issues because of the adverse amount of ingredients. If you like a brand enough, the pros out weigh the cons.
Two Thumbs up ALWAYS for Diamond Performance 30/20

The Diamond Performance held up for me to. Supplemented with a top dressing to round out any undetermined deficiencies and it was my go to during times of extreme work as well.

Ahh ok. Casey is 10 weeks today and no loose stools since she's been on it. She's doing good with it. Vet said she's gonna be a hard one to keep weight on. She's like the energizer bunny on speed.

Yes I have heard about it. Supposably a very good food and the people I know who feed it say their dogs do good on it, but eesh.. the PRICE lol
I go through a 40 lb bag a week, so that's a no go for me. Don't get me wrong, I will pay for good kibble because the dogs deserve something specially formulated for them, but If I'm going to pay that for a bag I might as well feed straight up raw with energy and fat supplements!

By the way... Does anyone use that Performance Forte (forgot the brand name) its either a liquid or powder in a big white bottle? What are your comments on it?

Mr. Altman it is my understanding that diamond will not mix and match pallets on a semi- load. Just something to be careful with, sometimes if you dont know what will sell and what wont you can get stuck with a pallet of something you cant move.

Posted by GRNT Coondawg on 02-09-2009 06:01 PM:

Joe,
What are you currently feeding? Are you selling any? if so pm the price and info on it...u still got bg?

Would have loved to help you back in the day joe, but it just was not cost effective to feed anything other than the green bag of diamond....when you are feeding 150#s a day the price goes a loooong way. We just couldnt beat the deal and price that we could get it from Bernard

Diamond

I feed the High Energy also. I love it. I live in Central Iowa, and most any local cooperative will order it for me. I was getting it for 17-18 bucks a bag, and it recently jumped to 23. I was disappointed in the price hike, but it is still all I will feed my dogs.

Sorry i forgot to ad. The vet said to not feed it to the pups also because it will make them grow to fast, she said it needed to be a large breed puppy food. If i had my way i would feed mae the extreme athlete, but im just sticking with the puppy food. She is being fed Premium Edge regular puppy food and she is getting firmer stool everyday, but its not for large breeds so when she is almost done with the bag, i am switching to Chicken Soup for the Petlover's soul(large breed puppy).

Johnny, if I was you I would only sell the green bag 26-18. Too many people bitch and gripe about the 24-20 etc. The company shxt on theyre dealers when they let Tractor supply carry the product. Theyve been non-existent to the hunts. field trials. I dont Know? If I were you Id steer clear of them or just carry One product.

After the aflotoxin issue, something changed about their feed.......not only did it it smell differently, I had 3 dogs come down with food allergies to it all at the same time as well as all the rest of the dogs started having loose stools.....all those dogs had been eating Diamond for years without any problems to all of a sudden at the same time have problems with it.

I have a few threads already posted on here about it.

I seen on various other forums around the same time that others were also having issues with Diamond as well.........but on the same token, their were others who had no issues at all.

After running feed trials for about 9/10 weeks on each Natural formula, I cold switched to SportMix and immediately saw a difference an improvement.

Been on SportMix since then and probably will keep it until something like what happened with the Diamond feed happens to them.

I agree with Buckshot I fed it for years and all of the sudden all my hounds have loose stool I am now feeding Pride the black and white bag and dogs have been doing good. It is a shame all feed stores around here only carry diamond

Troy, Buddy Boy same thing as Joy. Joy has one product I'd reccommend thats theyre Pro 24-20. Ive fed everything they make and that was the only one worth buying.

Posted by mrbluedog on 02-11-2009 01:59 PM:

Joseph the 24/20 is what I would want I have never even heard of the buddy boy most the dealers around here are all the same Diamond, Pride and Field Boss I would also still be feeding Purina if I did not have to go so far to get it

I was feeding Casey the Diamond puppy food but she hardly ate it. She would eat Roxy's food (DEA) instead. When I was switching her over she would pick out the DEA and leave the puppy food in the bowl.

I'd like to see Diamond carry merchandise with their logo on it. How are we supposed to show our support for the food and company other than by word of mouth? plus, It's nice to have merchandise from things you support and favor. I contacted Diamond once about it and they were scheduled to call me and talk about it (and a question regarding sponsoring), but never did.
