Marlin Martin in MI. and Travis Metcalf in WV. Got a nice pup from each, solid men to do buisness with. Metcalf hunts mostly bear.

i say in the Black and Tan breed a good article to write would be with Ron Roughton from AR.hes a preacher that has raised seven boys who all coon hunt and all work for the same family owned business, they have had some of the BEST black dogs in the country....bar none!!!!

Todd do a search on how many dogs they've finished and or placed with at b&t days or the world hunt, that would make an excellent article.

The Uchtman boys have been around a long time, and have produced consistently over the years. Check out the hsitorical and current rproducer lists, male and female, and you will see them figure prominently.

Ed Mead has to be mentioned too.

Dave Dean has been mentioned, rightly so.

One Name Immediately Comes To Mind

MARK REED.

His culls are usually better than most peoples brag dogs...including mine.

Todd, some others I think would apply to your criteria:

Mike Fields
Tony Foley
Dennis Kirby

Winston Aron, He has been breeding this line for years and years. He has been very successful. NOt taking anything away from anyone else, but Mr. Aron is not like some that just happened to have one good reproducing female and bred her to several studs or like sone others that have bought a lot of high priced all grands and bred to different studs. He breeds the same line and has done so for many generations. He is a true breeder, not some "flash in the pan". I would love to read an article about him, his line, and the methods he uses.

Posted by JustinM on 07-15-2007 09:45 PM:

I would like to see an article on Mr Aron also.

Tam young has done as much for theBlack&Tan breed as anybody. He hunts what he breeds and always has a winner tied up on the hill.

I dont know if one article would be enough to interview Wimp. I went to his house when i was just a teenager to buy a pup. I ended up listening to him for a 2 or 3 hours in his "office." I have never seen and heard so much coondog history at one setting.

I got to thinking, I know of 2 English breeders within 2 hours of my house who had BIG TIME winners before most of us were born. They also bred what they hunted.

Bud Keller(Kellers Mike) and Kelly Stagner(Platte Valley). These men where light years ahead of the compitition in there breeding practices in there day.

Bud was the first man I knew of who bred littermate brother and sister on perpose. By doing it, he gave us a corner stone of our breed in Kellers Queen. In that day it was kind of like wich craft to line breed and heaven forbit inbreeding.

Kelly's understanding of Genetics put him at the top of his game. The females out of his kennel made there way into every bloodline alive in there day.

There both still around, but aint exactly spring chickens anymore. I would love to see them both have one last in depth article done on them before there gone.

In the Plott breed Jeff Koons really has a great line started from his Oakie dog. This really is a nice line producing alot of good dogs. Eugene and Curtis Walker have had good lines for a long time and alot of Plotts today go back to their dogs somehow.
