All i've got to say is that you better wear your walking shoes if you're hunting a smoke pup. Mine is almost 9 months old and has been hunted maybe 12 times just to keep him in shape. I haven't done anything other than turn him loose and let him do whatever he wanted. I've never fooled with him at the tree. I've already had to walk in 3/4 mile to get him by himself. I don't know what he was up to but he isn't afraid of the dark and he's gone every step of the way with my other dogs since the first time I ever took him to the woods.

We went tuesday night and I took him since it was a little cooler. The first drop Swag (Smoke x Candy) and Clyde (Bean x Trackman female) made about a 800 yard circle. Clyde came back so I caught him. Swag on the other hand made another 600 yard circle in the opposite direction by himself??

One the second drop Clyde got a hot track going. Swag fell in with him and even treed a little in a big pine. On the last drop, Swag struck ahead of clyde!! He runs with a big screaming bawl/squeal right now and once I get him settled in on the tree and actually knock a coon or two out to him, I think he'll be on cruise control.

That might not seem too impressive to some of yall but for a dog that's been hunted as much as your common house dog, it isn't bad in my book.

BTW, he's almost 70 lbs!!

I'm going to have to buy a new pair of boots to keep up with him! He isn't bashful and he's very smart for a 9 month old pup. According to the Garmin he covered 3.67 miles in a big "p" shaped loop the last time I had him out on the last drop. He got about 3/4 mile away from me at the furthest point. I'll just say I don't think he's going to be for the faint of heart. When he got within 600 yards of me I called him back to me. He sure is starting nicely.

I'm not going to really push him until after I get back from A.O. in the few weeks leading up to our actual hunting season and get him a little fur. I haven't been this excited about a pup in a while! He's already showing he's going to be a track driver and has struck ahead of my old dogs the last three nights i've had him out.

Wjoey,Ole Saige sure did put some real fine hounds on the ground and she is a TOP reproducing female, Her offsprings have had alot of success in both UKC n Won a good bit $$$$ in PKC , She definetly will leave her mark and dogs out of her will carry on n produce the same quality hounds that Win n have Coons in the trees !! I believe this is one of the most recent winning litters.

There is also the White Trash x Quick Flash cross which every dog in the litter is UKC titled and a couple are PKC GCH and a couple others are close to SCH.

There is no doubt that Smoke is the product of a very good cross as well !

J.Fox your comment among the top would be fair to say I believe and of course they obviously not the top and none have had a high profiled paid handler behind them either. As far as there dam Saige I believe is reproduced as good as any in today's circuit and that's why she made the top reproducer list !

There are 5 titled dogs in either UKC or PKC outa the Card x Saige cross and 3 titled in both also the 6th one is just a C.W away from his title and prob will never get as he is now in the yard of a very hard hide, pleasure hunter !!!

Stranger, You mentioned some very good examples for J.Fox also the Sunrise x Nowhere cross is as good as any also

Had 4 males and 1 female and the female died next morning !
