with his first taste of a dead bear. He did another great job on this 250# bear. This bear was nicknamed scar. He wouldnt climb all summer and had a big scar on his side. He would run all day but couldnt get away this time. Kid was there with him of course. Notice how thin Dozer is by his stomach. Thats how he looks after a hard run. He is as solid as a rock. His metabolism is very high and is fed more than the others. We include vitamins and xtra protein in his food, along with fat and meat. He was very good before this bear. After this bear he turned and moved up to the next level to being as good as a dog gets. We're taking a day off to rest the dogs. Sorry to hear you didnt make it to the world. You got close though.
3way split tree
on bear today all off one bait. Dozer and 1 other had one and 2 others had their own bear. I hate when that happens lol. Dozer no longer has to be rested and has no quit in him and when the so called top dogs (off colored) drop out of the race, the big Dozer keeps on ticking. You can be proud of that big guy. I'm going to be coonhunting for awhile now in a couple weeks. Going to enter Dozer in a couple bench shows sometime soon after bear season. Queen isnt progressing like we had hoped and needs more hunting. We think she should be better next year. She likes to hunt but wont stick in there very long. She isnt mature enough yet but is getting better. Only time will tell. I do expect her to turn out though. If you get time could you send the easy entry card for Dozer. Gotta go and box up a bear rug for Ed Terry. Didnt make it to his house as I didnt have time between training and bear season. Take care
Glad Dozer's doing well for ya.
I'm sure interested to see what comes of these Dozer and Kitty pups. He should finish out real quick on the shows. He has only been in two and won the whole show against competition both times. All he needs is a few more points. Just PM me your address and I'll do ya one better than the card and send ya that and the papers. I'm sure glad he got to do what he was bred to rather than sitting in a pen as he was.

Night one at the Zones.
Pulled out with some nice hounds. The one that won our cast was Jake Hall with Missy. He's been doing these hunts for a long time but more recently switched over to Reds. Whats the chance of the only two Redbones out of 60 something pulling out together. Same thing happened last year two Redbones there both drew out together, making it impossible for both to get a double cast win. The hound that came in second in our cast was a nice walker that was handled by Chase Mckaskill who had just won a 4 door 4x4 Dodge Truck in another KC. She lost on a tie that night and won her cast the next night and would have advanced were it not for a vote on a tree in the woods. Kitty was looking good and if I called her correctly would have won or been right at it also. However, once I made a bad call I at that point was pulling for Missy. Here's what happened. The second dump of the night we turned them loose Kitty struck in and here they go on deep in the woods. They ran and ran around chasing this thing. Well the Walker pulls up about where they started and locks down, had the coon. So as we are pulling her off the tree I here Kitty throw a locate so I tree her without delay. Pretty well as soon as I did I heard a funny sound. Then I knew what it was. Kitty had ran the coon in a hole. I asked and the others wouldn't tree in a hole well since no one backed her she left. She then went over and backed the walker who was pretty close by and had went back to her tree, the one we had already scored. I have gotten several out of holes for her but I can always tell something funny is going on and get in there pretty quick. I don't know how long she had been treeing in the hole before I treed her and then one treeing right there by her she moved. Her mouth was full of dirt and if I had heard her chewing on the ground before that I would have never have treed her. First round of the World Hunt jitters I guess. Then the last turn out she came into check the walker didn't like the tree, that we didn't find a coon in, and went right back out. Well as soon as she made a yep I called her treed. There again jumping the gun. Before and during all this we were treeing coon. Anywhere from a few yards to 3/25 of a mile or better but with me making two bad calls all I was trying to do at that point was make sure I didn't completely destroy all of Kitty's hard work.

The pups
will turn out if given a chance. Notice I didnt say should but will turn out. After watching and hunting Dozer just a couple months he has becone a top beardog. Not just a good dog but a very very good dog. There isnt much he could do to improve after what I've seen in the last couple weeks. You can hear him from a long ways away on both track and tree. The same goes for Kid. Kid is so fast on some of the tracks that everything falls behind. Dozer is no slow dog either. He handles great unless he sees the bear come out when you are walking away. Then u better hold on. All the pups need is a fair chance. Put in the hands of someone who will put time into these pups will have very good dogs. This is the first year for Kid and Dozer on bear and I couldnt ask for more from either them. They can make good veteran dogs look average. Both are still young and Dozer helped put up 2 bears that bailed out within the last couple days. Those are the kind that rarely tree again once they have jumped out. That tells me he can put the pressure on and make those bear climb. He loves to bearhunt and is up waiting to be loaded up as soon as he sees the lites come on in the cabin. He jumps around like a pup when I go to pet him up at his dog house. He is a joy to have around also. I cant thank you enough for these 2 fine hounds. Heres Dozer & Kid at a tree. Take care
Glad to help Dave. Here What Happened on Night #2 of the Zones.
We cut them loose on what the guide said should be a quick one. They struck not to far from us but ran about a half mile on pretty quick. While trying to follow them we ran across Kitty trailing but she stopped and came right up to me. So I told them to minus her. I have never had Kitty come to me in a competition hunt, until this night. Then I got to thinking about it and decided I had better look at her. She came by again and I checked to make sure she wasn't snake bit. That's when I smelled her, skunk. I don't know if she grabbed it or it just sprayed her but she couldn't hardly smell. Her tongue was hanging all out, she was rubbing her eyes and rolling around. She finally went hunting again and treed with the cast winner. The next drop she came in again after striking rolling all over, minused again. Went on hunting again and came treed with another hound at the end of the hunt. She would have won this cast if she just hadn't came in, something she had never done before. The one she treed with at the end of the hunt has won over $18,000 in another KC and the other hound she treed with first won our cast. These were some nice hounds but she came in and lost the hunt for us. O well I'll know what to look for and expect next year. I guess the point to all this is she very likely could have had a double cast win never mind one of those being high enough to get her in anyways but we just couldn't get on the same page at the same times to get it done.

Now you will be ready for next year. When Ciscoe died I decided to look for a female with the same blood which was on Ciscoes Dams side. I got ahold of Joe Maitland and within minutes he was back and said he had one at his kennels. I went and picked her up and hunted her on bear and what a good little dog she is. Doesnt miss a beat. 5 years old and and great little tree dog. I hunted her on coon last nite and she is a good coon dog also. Her and one other dog treed and then re-treed the same bear after it bailed. The cross we made with Joes blood was the best cross we ever had. This was the batch where we had sold a few pups and at 9 months the people were calling and wanted more. When you outcross you may want to consider his blood. You were right about Ciscoe and we got to see him hunt for alot of years and he had a good life doing what he loved to do. He died of a heart attack. At first Mike thought it was Blasto again. Take care and maybe we can get you down here to hunt some big cheesehead coon some day. I sent a pm also. Take care and heres a pic of the dog we got from Joe.

Has she got any Pete in her?
I sure liked him from what I heard of him and of course he goes back to that Littleman stuff which there again that Littleman and Fireball stuff seems to have really been nice. He would hunt well but produced tree dogs. That's the thing with like the old Ace stuff they were tree dogs but just didn't have much hunt to them when it was crossed in very close. With Pete and Maxx they produced tree hound that would still hunt well. There again that go I think was coming from Littleman.

and dont have the papers yet. But with what I've seen so far I really like her. Kid and Dozer will be run on cat on hopefully lion this winter. I'm back home taking care of things around here for a day or 2 and wll head back up 2nite. All the dogs need a break. I put up a game camera to get some pics where the wolves were and they have not come back to that spot. Seems the flash keeps them away from that bait. We will use more next year and hopefully it will keep them away for awhile.. We check baits in the morning a can here a the coyotes and then a wolf will howl and the coyotes shut right up. Someone from town here was attacked by a bear he shot. I dont have all the details yet but he wounded it and it attacked him. How many Dozer pups did you keep? They will turn out and should have good noses. He sure is a good looking dog and loves to chase them bear. Smart enough and quick enough not to get caught and hurt. It takes a special type of dog to be a good beardog just as it does to make a good coondog. Getting the taste of a dead bear gave him more passion and really put the drive in him. I dont really know what more to expect from him. Kid has really turned it on and really hates them bear also. If someone comes and shows us their bear on their truck he is out there baying it. He really doesnt like them at all. LOL Take care

Ended up not going last night
By the time I got finished working outside yesterday I was to locked up to hardly move. I didn't even go pleasure hunting. Once I take these pills I don't need to be in the woods. Think that's part of what didn't help me in the Zones. Having your nerves all pinched off sure stinks. Never dreamed I'd be messed up like this after Iraq. Figured I'd just come back and try to go back to normal. Maybe some day they'll pay me enough in VA disability to be able to hire someone to do all the physical labor for me and I can at least do some enjoyable things like hunting and fishing.

Will go to
Idaho or Utah for lion. Went coon hunting last nite and took Angel, Ciscoe IV and Chief. Ciscoe ran track and treed with Angel. I was really happy to see that. He's only 7 months old and it was really his first chance at coon hunting. Chief stayed out with them but came back to the truck and when he came back they struck and treed the coon. Coon season starts in less than 3 weeks and will be looking for that 50 pounder. I will settle for a 40 pounder though. Got another bear mount to do and thats 11 for this year. Justed picked up all the business for a large Charter fisherman and will be mounting alot of fish now. I dont mind doing fish since you can have one done and drying in about a hour. Hope your neck gets better for you and I'll get a big coon mounted the way you want it as soon as we get a big one. Hope your neck gets better and will see you at one of the bigger hunts sometime.
That sounds fun.
Hope you can find a nice big one. That'll make people think twice about the friendly little coons. Had a girl in high school that never would go out on a date with me becuase I was so mean to hunt those nice little coons. Then one jumped in her friends back yard and put thier little poof ball of a pooch in the vet hospital for 2 weeks. Well guess who I saw years later at a coon hunt with her husband. You got it the same girl. Maybe when they do the next surgery on my neck most of the pain will go away but then I will sure have a time loking up the trees. Time will tell I guess.

Plan to make it Fri. night, see how I feel for Sat. Long as I can handle it I'll be there both nights. May look like another Redbone sectional. That'd be cool.

Dozer tangled
with a big northen coon. I think he was surprised. He didnt win the fight. He got his face chewed on and although he tried he couldnt put the coon away for good. The coon was close to the 40# mark. We didnt shoot the coon cuz the season isnt open yet and let him scramble off. It would have made a nice mount or rug. I think he was surprised how tough that thing was. That was the first offgame he has ran since being bearhunted. I'll bet he thought making a bear climb was easier LOL. I've only had a couple dogs that could put away a big coon like that over the years. I just got a young man into bearhunting with hounds and he wants to try competition hunting also. Of course he wants Redbones and has been coonhunting with me also. I got him set up with a new lite and tracking unit. He is really enjoying it. I have Angel at his place and he cant stand seeing her in the pen so he takes her out every nite. He is really fired up and loves to hunt as much as he can. Bear season is over next week and we still have to fill my brothers tag. Could have filled it every day but he's waiting till then end. No big ones have been around. Did help a guy with MS fill his and it weighed 260# dressed out. Take care and hope your neck gets better.
Dozer and the big coons.
That's what he needs these little things down here are doing good to last a few seconds completely unwounded with him. Give him something that backs him up instead of him wooping it and he should be ready for sure.

Hey Dale, Not going to make the hunt Fri. but will make Sat. for sure.
I just figured out the times and I don't have enough time to get back here to the house and make it back over there after work but I will be there Sat. for sure. To bad it wasn't cooler. I'd just keep her in the vehicle. If I can talk my wife into it I'll bring Joe my popsicle pup and show him, he's nice looking for sure.

Sure Getting some Good Reports lately on these Twister x Daisy popsicle pups!
I sold a brother to Cryo Joe to Brad Woodmansee a few weeks ago that I had about decided to keep. He was a good acting pup but unless I'm keeping them I don't really fool with them, so they don't get attached to me. So this pup had never even really been out of the pen. Well they have taken him out a few times and he's already trailing and treeing. Another one Eddie Terry has but hasn't had him out much yet, if at all, and he says it's one of the loudest he's heard and has a huge mouth to boot. Guess I need to give my local friend a call and see how the other one is doing. I know last I checked the only trouble they had back at 5 months old was keeping up with him as he was hunting out very well already. These guys are turning into some well built hard going pups already.
Brad sorry I haven't called have been busy. But yes we gave him his rabies shot and all others. I don't have paperwork on it though so you may want to get another. Most states legally require you to have proof of rabies vaccination. I don't know about you but I am sure excited to see how these guys turn out this Fall.
