Thanks Eddie and Butch! We started them with a drag and hung it in the tree the first few times and the last two times no hanging in the tree and they could still find it, scent only. I don't know what most people think about them but they are better at finding the right tree and running the drag that any others we have had of any color. No they don't blow the tree down and babble every breath when you turn them loose but they can move a track and get treed of the drag. Season is coming in and we will be taking them a little as 4 1/2 to 5 months is pretty young but feel they need to be hitting the woods, looking forward to spring already. Eddie you get Jr. ready this winter and we will see you next year if the lord is willing and Butch we need to go for a hunt this winter and see if we can tree a sick one!

Boss Hog threw that head up today with the wind blowing and picked the track up about 20 yards from we started the drag out, really using that nose. Here are a few pictures from today little episode!

I used to intentionally lay drags with the wind blowing crosswise to the track. Let the pups loose about 70 yards downwind from the track. Some could wind the track from that distance. This will let you know which pups have the strongest nose and can use it once they hit the drag.

Pups are looking great!!!

ICB don't know if they can do the 70 yards but I know they did at least 25 to 30 yards. They are both very outgoing and don't need something handing in the tree to get treed. I know they have a long ways to go but about the earliest I have had pups run a drag as well as them and get treed off it without a coon hanging there to bark at, hell a cur/mutt will do that. Have some special plans for them coming up and hope to have them ready for spring. LOL! If not I will move along just like always, there will be one out there somewhere and just have to find him.

Indiana Kill Season Is In

Well we are sure of one thing, we can go tonight and it is legal. Should be a good night, damp, cool and dark. First night we are planning on running the old dogs down and then rotate the old ones with the pups. If I had to hunt old ones all the time I would stop hunting! Now comes the fun part!

Well coon season finally came in tonight. We took Riptide and Fancy tonight and had a pretty good night besides hearing dogs everywhere along the river tonight. We treed 4 coons a den tree, and one slick tree. One the first dump both dogs was split about 20 yards apart and both had coons. Now the fun starts as we gonna start hunting pups this kill season.

Well we took Mr. Ed and Boss Hog out with Riptide tonight as they are only 4 1/2 months old we figured we would get them used to the night and everything. And to our surprise they went with Riptide out a couple hundred yards then Riptide decide he was gonna have to get deep to find one. The pups came back but they kept going back out looking for him. Well Riptide finally got treed but he was deep so we walked to him and when we got there the pups got up on the tree and checked it out and treed with him alittle. As this was there first night in the woods at night time we felt like the pups are starting to figure it out for as young as they are. They got alittle fur in there mouth tonight. At the end of the night after the walk we had I don't know who was tired more my father or the pups. LOL

Yes the old man was what you call tired. But then again I could have saved myself about 650 to 700 yards of walking thru hell If I would have went the way I said and not went with you! Everyone guess who lead the way out of the massive clear cut? Had to make it since the pups did get in there and tree a little and want to get one out for them to chew on, first coon and they took their time on getting in on it. Overall pretty pleased for less than 5 months and got in there a couple hundred yards and treed a little. The best part was the pups working a track on their own and getting up on trees and kept moving, nope they did not tree it but they know where they are going and that is up. Corey is still learning to trust the Garmin! LOL!!

Well we took a hunt the night before opening day of deer season and we decided to make it short and sweet and let the deer hunters have their fun opening morning. Made four trees, seen coons on three of the four and one was a very large den and it ran about 800 plus yards, one of our better runs of lately. We only got Riptide and Fancy off one tree together once again. Pups getting ready to hit the woods starting the week of 11/22/15 every day fit for the next two months, hoping this will have them ready for spring hunting. Held off on taking most of my vacation days to get some hunting in with the pups and getting caught up with some well needed R&R, have nearly 25 days off in the next month and 1/2!

Took a little hunt last night and made five trees. Seen coons on four trees and one den. Only dumped the Riptide and Fancy once together and they did believe it or not treed together! Riding the machine helps a lot when they get in there deep, saves me a many steps and makes for a more enjoyable hunt, bad knees makes things a lot tougher!

Well we have reduced the number of hounds to three pups and Riptide. This should keep us busy enough for some time. Hard part is now but hoping by spring we have made some progress. Riptide is going to be performance for 2016 and will be coming in handy as it will be time by then to have a few more coming up if the others don't cut the mustard. I'm betting on Riptides pups coming through for us as we have found a real nice bitch to breed to him and my feeling has always been the bitch has about 60% say in what the outcome of the pups, JMO!

Now nights like this takes all the fun out of it. First dump Riptide and pup covered 2.6 miles on the Garmin before they hit and then ran about 250 yards and treed a large den. Loaded up and second dump they got in there roughly 650 yards and treed a had a big one and I mean big for this area and the pup split treed in the ground about 50 yards from Riptide, he at least stayed and thought he had one! LOL! We are heading back in and calling it a night, at least the pup is going and getting a little fur in his mouth! Really need to be hitting more tracks for the pups but they are making progress!

End results -

Took Riptide and (Ike 6 months old) tonight and made three trees, one den and two coons. Had some real nice tracks tonight and Ike ran on all of them and treed on two and even tied to split on the one but we were not quick enough - LOL! I feel Ike has turned the Corner Terry so you get on the ball! Dropped one out and left the other, save a few for a rainy night. Ike got than he wanted and needed on the one so we felt he had enough tonight, at least he stayed in and tried to end it but it was a big one and more than he could chew off!

Took Riptide and Ike last night and had to cut it short. While driving around to them treed on the UTV I made a slight mistake and messed my hand up and not sure it is not broke and to say the least the last thing I was going to do before I got it iced down was to turn loose again. It is about twice the size as my other hand but will be ready in a night or two. Oh yes Corey will tell everyone I'm sure!

Man it is Dec. 12th and 9:30 and it is still 66 degrees, unreal! So far we have treed two dens, one coon and ran one in hole up under a tree after running it about 350 yards, Ike like the hole but then again there was steam coming from the hole but could get down there to look in it, along the Anderson River and it was a little to deep. Corey got wet but believe it or not I stayed dried! LOL! Had hounds running everywhere along the river tonight.

Hunted Riptide and Ike tonight and made three trees. One den with Riptide treed by himself and treed two with Ike and Riptide, one was in an old den and you could see and the other in a large pine tree. Ike struck tonight in the pine grove about 500 yards from us and I would had bet a dollar he was running and long horn as he was a moving it, but then Riptide put in and they went about 200 yards and nailed it. It too was a big boy. Ike for 6 months old is progressing and that is what I like to see as I don't waste my time on anything that is not moving at the pace I feel they need too, life is to short. Last dump they covered a one mile section and we drove the machine around and caught them coming out of the ditch, heading home!

Well everyone you can ask Corey why we only made one dump tonight. Tonight he thought he could swim, well it did not work! LOL! Pup and Riptide split and Riptide got in there right at 900 yards so I went after him and Corey went the other direction to the pup about 350 yards and he was across the river when he got there. Corey thought he found a place to cross so all he did was get wet from top to bottom along with cell phone, tracking unit and camera. Lots of plastic bags and rice tonight and hope they all work. He said the water was cold, huh! Riptide had a coon and the pup, well we finally got him to cross the river and it was up a little! Last two trips he has got wet and I have stayed dried, go figure!

Took Riptide and Ike tonight and first tree Riptide treed around .7 miles and it was a hot one. Treed in a small tree and then the fun started. Squalled the coon out of this small tree and let me tell you Ike ran the snot out of it and they caught it on the ground. Was hoping it made it back up for Ike. Ike will sure go cross county and is a very nice handling pup, starting to tree and making progress every night we take him. Dick he is doing more than some I have had that were much older, when you get a video of him he will make you proud, it will happen!
