Hunt

Drake, my nephew Griffin and myself braved the rain and cold tonight. Funny how the only hunters I can get to go on these ole rainy bad nights are these young fellers!!! Lol. Guess they ain't learned any better. We got soaked and cold but did have a good hunt. First drop we cut BB and Rickett. BB made a big circle and came back to the truck. Rickett headed down a logging road and was soon 400 yds deep. We drove around and he was treed and had two up one tree. Next drop we cut Cotton and Stroker. They left out and were over 500 yds on Garmin. I moved around and got within hearing. They worked a track thru the hills and went out of hearing again. We walked about 500 yds and they were treed. Got there and it was a den tree. Next drop we cut BB and Rickett again. BB struck at about 200 yds and moved a track good. She worked up the side of a big hill and let out her locate soon followed by Rickett. They had a good coon and BB did a nice job on him. We were soaked and it was 39 degrees so we called it a night. Thanks Gary , they have their nights like all the rest but I am pleased most nights with them. We keep putting them in the woods and correct mistakes and hopefully their breeding takes over and they make coondogs. I still would like to kill'em on some nights!! HUNT

Drake , Myself and David Gilbert hunted for a while last night. First drop we cut BB, Blade and David's gyp Molly. I sold Molly to David last year. She is out of Dual Grand Midnight Colt and a RC/Jenny gyp. They got DEEP and struck a bad track. They crossed the creek and got treed. We got to them and Blade was 150 yards past them trailing around. No coon seen. Rounded up Blade and we moved. Cut them again and they struck a good track and treed shortly. They had a coon this time. Blade went the other direction 450 yds and never got struck. When Blade puts it all together, he will be tough. He can tree his own coon and will not be with other dogs.

STROKER
I have been struggling with the decision on which of these young dogs I am going to keep. I have decided to sell Stroker.
THE GOOD

Stroker is 15 months old.
Stroker will go hunting.
Stroker will tree his own coon.
Stroker has a good mouth.
Stroker is a good hard tree dog.
Stroker has not been trashy.
Stroker has split treed several times and had his coon.
Stroker is an absolutely beautiful hound with a big head and square muzzle.
Stroker has a good dispositition.

WEAKNESS

Stroker is still a little loose on some trees after a bad track.
Stroker has started to chew some on softer trees.

PRICE = $800 worth every penny

Most of you know that I will absolutely not hunt a dog that chews any!! This is the basis for my decision. Stroker is the better of the two young dogs at this time but I like what I see out of Blade with his hard hunting and independent style. Blade is a clean tree dog. I have talked to so many people about these young dogs that I decided to just put him on my thread. Please call me with any questions.

I'm sick. Stoker from what I have been reading is getting it done. I love his pedigree and looks. He he the dead loner or is that Razor?
How far will he go alone? So on good trees he is a stay put treedog correct just on cold bad trees and tracks.

You and your family have a happy new year. I appreciate your freindship and the help with promoting Logan and his pups. Sent you a pm withfrom a fellow who is looking for another Logan pup. The report on his dog he has now is really impressive. I have been getting these reports on Logan pups for many years from many different females. Time will tell as to how long he stays in pedigrees for years to come. He has produced some top females and I believe they will prove his staying power.

Elmo, Blade is the dead loner but Stroker has split treed several times with the meat. He is tight on good tracks but can be loose on some bad tracks. Just needs some worn out boots now.

Congrats !!

LANCE ,Congrats on your High School team winning it all!! That is a big accomplishment. Been part of that here at Marion County High School. Helped coach in 2011 and 2012 and won state in 2011 and runner up in 2012. I went back to coaching our 11 and 12 year olds in rec league. Getting kids on junior high that weren't prepared. Hope I can make a difference in getting them transitioned to High School football a little easier.

Hunt
Drake and me turned loose a couple times last night. Cold and very windy. Coons didn't move well but we made one tree. Couldn't find coon but lots of hedges and some kind of green vines were everywhere. BB and Cotton done what they could on next drop but never got struck. Came close to a gravel road and we caught them up and called it a night.. Y'all Keep'em Lookin' Up!! Darren

Went to hunt with Terry Tibbs Friday night. Cold and nothing was stirring. We finally got after an old cold track but ended up catching them off of it and calling it a night. Drank some coffee and ate a waffle at the waffle house!!
14 degrees this morning in Alabama, I can just imagine what it is up north!! Rough hunting for a few nights.

HUNT

Drake and myself braved the extreme cold last night for a little while. First drop we cut BB and her son Major loose. they left hard and were 800 yds in just a little while. They made a huge circle and struck a frosty old track. They did a good job of moving it on out and soon heard them locate almost simultaneously. We got in to the tree and I found the coon 2 trees over from where they were treed. They just missed him. Next drop we cut Cotton and Blade loose. Blade didn't hunt as well as usual and I loaded him up. Cotton got deep and covered a lot of ground but never could get struck. We finally rounded her up and called it a night. It was about 9 degrees when we quit. Boots, collars, and dogs all iced up!! Gone hit it again tonight , Y'all Keep'em Lookin' Up!!

Glad to see a break in the weather. We are going to hit it tonight and see if we can get one on a limb. Finally got one of my good hunting spots back. Been staying out of it because the owners son-in-law has been deer hunting. He called and said they were about done anyway to hit it again. Been getting a little slim on hunting the last few weeks. Having a hard time getting struck. Gone fill up a few feeders and put ole Blade in the woods alone. I got my Major dog back from Terry Tibbs. We are partners on him and he is doing a good job in the woods. Hard going dog with a huge bluetick mouth. He has been doing it alone and Drake is about to put him in a few hunts. I am headed to Reform Saturday night to see if we can get wound back up on Cotton. She only needs a 4th or better to NtCh her. She has 3 wins to GrCh. Just been working with these young dogs and haven't been hitting any hunts. Y'all Keep'em Lookin' Up!! Darren

Hey Darren, just hung up talking to you. Always good to talk to someone bout these old dogs and always a bonus to find out you share a few of the same beliefs in breeding and raising a few. I appreciate your time and patience. Soon as I get over this dang pneumonia we can get together and ole Stroker can make his way to Tennesse and start getting use to these mountains and gulfs we hunt. Just wanted you to know I appreciated your time and effort and look forward to my trip to Guin. Don't forget to keep me a good puppy in the back of your mind. Hope to see ya'll soon.

got it, thanks. action was a little slow here last night to. moon is a little over half full but up high and bright when I went last night. a coon ran out of a field of corn stubble and crossed the road in front of my truck at 1pm yesterday. middle of the day.

Haven't been hitting any hunts lately but decided to take Cotton to Reform tonight. 2 casts of dogs went out. I forgot my hip boots and hunted in leather boots. Wet feet all night!! Cotton looked really good. Drew two nice English dogs. Cotton split treed twice with the meat. Ended up with 350+. That finished her with 3 first place wins. Got to get started on Major in a few hunts now. Y'all keep'em lookin up!! Darren
