My Amos X Magic pup will be 5 months old next week and gives these strays cats around here a fit so I decided to set out my coon trap tonight to catch a coon and see how she acts with it, can't wait till shes old enough to go some, but don't want to rush her till she's ready !

Blue dog update.

Zeb, Angel and Sue are back at Gary's. Hickory has Lymes and will be laid up for at least 2 months. Logan will be coming back to Wisconsin at Bluetick days. I will be hunting either Cami, Heather or Annie at bluetick days. Whatever ones are not in Heat. My pups Mae Belle and Honey Bee are doing great and looking forward to getting them started this summer.

Scott

What are the symptoms for a dog with lyme disease?

Posted by Scott VH on 05-01-2012 01:38 AM:

From a web site

Symptoms and Types

Many dogs with Lyme disease have recurrent lameness of the limbs due to inflammation of the joints. Others, meanwhile, may develop acute lameness, which lasts for only three to four days but recurs days to weeks later, with lameness in the same leg, or in other legs. Better known as “shifting-leg lameness,” this condition is characterized by lameness in one leg, with a return to normal function, and another leg is then involved; one or more joints may be swollen and warm; a pain response is elicited by feeling the joint; responds well to antibiotic treatment.

Some dogs may also develop kidney problems. If left untreated, it may lead to glomerulonephritis, which causes inflammation and accompanying dysfunction of the kidney's glomeruli (essentially, a blood filter). Eventually, total kidney failure sets in and the dog begins to exhibit such signs as vomiting, diarrhea, lack of appetite, weight loss, increased urination and thirst, fluid buildup in the abdomen and fluid buildup in the tissues, especially the legs and under the skin.

Other symptoms associated with Lyme disease include:

•Stiff walk with an arched back
•Sensitive to touch
•Difficulty breathing
•Fever, lack of appetite, and depression may accompany inflammation of the joints
•Superficial lymph nodes close to the site of the infecting tick bite may be swollen
•Heart abnormalities are reported, but rare; they include complete heart block
•Nervous system complications (rare)

Causes

Borrelia burgdorferi, which is the bacteria responsible for Lyme disease, is transmitted by slow-feeding, hard-shelled deer ticks. However, infection typically occurs after the Borrelia-carrying tick has been attached to the dog for at least 18 hours.

Sorry To Hear About Hickory Scott.

Posted by Scott VH on 05-01-2012 02:13 AM:

Hickory

Thanks Wes,
Had him in a hunt down in Arthur and he got back in an area that we could not get him out until the next morning. When he got out he was full of ticks. He was going to stay down by Johnson's and get hunted but he was not acting right.Danielle took him to the vet and they did a blood test and it was positive. Thanks to the Johnson's for catching it early and getting him on anitbiotics. He is going to be on the bench for the next couple of months to get well before I get him back out.
Scott

Well Wes here's the good news:

We bred Diva (Hank's granddaughter) to Hickory and the pups should be on the ground next week. They will be sold as performance paid up.

I wish Hickory (and Scott) the best and happy healing so he can get into the woods soon! Lymes is a very serious concern and more hunters need to take note and protect their hounds with Advantix, Frontline, Vectra....whatever. The cost of treating lymes is far more expensive than the once a month spot preventative. The doozy it can do to your irreplaceable hound is tragic. In Hickory's case, he also had Anaplasmosis which made him feel sicker, sooner, which was why it was caught within a month.

lymes

A lot of dogs get lymes in WI. My friend with the red dogs has had several get it and he even got it himself last year and was down for a few weeks. It's sure not a good thing. I hope Hickory get's up and about soon. His brother ( Ruger ) is doing fine. Dave

Nope, She hasn't had them yet, but is due May 10th. I've had a few people PM me about pups. I'll start a thread soon and put up pics once they're born. We'll keep a male and a female. It doesn't look like she's loaded with pups (which is a good thing), so we shall see! I'd love to see you get one.
