I'll keep you well entertained with pictures! It will help keep this thread up too... the first picture is the slop jar hatch cock I was holding in easter pic, and the second pic is the kelso cock that dad was holding in the easter pic those are three proven brood cocks we are using this year.

This is a cock that was gifted to me by a close friend of mine named Les... His tail is a little ruff in the pic, but with good reason, also les will give one a hair cut in a second!!lol

He is a coon hunter from Tenn. He won the acha world hunt couple years back with his old walker dog, you may have heard of him, Tenn. Bawling Barney...

He has had top of the line coonhounds and gamefowl!!

TAILS

WHEN THEY LOOK LIKE THAT AND THEY ARE UP AND CROWIN, YA BUDDY!!! LOOKS LIKE YOU GOT SOME NICE BROOD PENS MATED UP. FROM WHAT I HAVE SEEN IN THE ROOSTER BUSINESS, YOU WILL RECEIVE MUCH BETTER FOWL AS A GIFT THAN YOU WILL EVER BUY. IT USUALLY COMES FROM EARNING THE RESPECT OF THOSE GUYS WITH GOOD FOWL AND ALOT OF TIMES FROM THE OLD VETERANS THAT WANT TO SEE THEIR FOWL CARRIED ON BUT WON'T LET IT OUT TO JUST ANY ONE. THOSE ARE USUALLY THE ONES TO CARRY ON WITH AND BE PROUD OF. DO YOU SEE MUCH GOOD ALBANY BLOOD DOWN IN YOUR COUNTRY? WE HAD SOME OF THE ROY GUYER BLOOD THROUGH REB WILLIAMSON. THEY WERE PRETTY AWESOME BOTH PURE AND CROSSED AND GOT TO PROVE THEM SOME ON THE HARD GROUND. WE HAD SOME PINE ALBANY'S FROM CHARLIE CARR THAT WERE BAD TO THE BONE BOTH PURE AND CROSSED. THE GUYERS WERE LIL PEA HEADED CHICKENS AND THE PINE ALBANY'S WERE STRAIGHT COMBED ROOSTERS. <v>

I agee on gifted fowl, Only fowl on my yard that I bought were my greys, and some hens...

As far as the albany goes, it's around... I stick to hatch and kelso mostly, but a fella I know in south ga has pine albany's, but they are black roosters with brass backs, yellow legged, and strait combed. He also had regular albany's too... In my opinion, both families are better suited for the mexican and philipino shows.

here is a pure kelso brood pen... they go back to johnney jumper blood, but i got them from a friend in Ky... a couple years ago he won 16 derbies in one season with these kelso and his hatch, I saw the trophies... but he was there every weekend.

STICK WITH WHAT IS GOOD FOR SURE

OUR PINE ALBANYS FROM CARR CAME RED AND SPANGLED WITH YELLOW LEGS. THEY WERE RUFF SHUFFLING ROOSTERS THAT CUT EVERY LICK AND GAME TO THE CORE.
THE GUYERS WERE VERY FAST, ROUGH SHUFFLERS, BREAK HIGH AND IF ONE WOULDN'T BREAK WITHUM, THEY HAD A WAY OF HOVERING AND WHEN THAT OTHER BIRD LANDED WOULD SETTLE IN ON HIM AND SHUCK HIM OUT THE BACK END IN A HECK OF A MESS. BOTH FAMILIES HAD ALOT OF BOTTOM AND COULD COME FROM WAY BEHIND AND FINISH IT WITH ONE LICK. HAVE WATCHED ALOT OF MEXICAN DERBIES, THEY USED TO HAVE 40 ENTRIES OR BETTER UP HERE IN THE BRUSH. HAD A MEXICAN GUY I KNEW PUT UP A SHOW OF OUR ALBANY STAGS, WE SHOWED INTO COCKS AND WAS ONE OUT OF THE MONEY AT 4-1. LOVE TO WATCH THE PHILLIPINO AND MEXICAN SHOWS, BUT LIKE THE KIND IT TAKES AND LIKE TO COMPETE IN THE L&S-G. <v>

THE GREYS

HAVE ALWAYS LOVED A GREY ROOSTER. I HAD ONE THAT WAS 7/8 REGULAR GREY AND 1/8 SANDY HATCH. CROSSED HIM OVER GOOD HATCH AND ALBANY'S. UP HERE THEY ALL WOULD BET AGAINST GREY ROOSTERS, WHAT WE SHOWED WAS A RED ROOSTER IN A GREY SUIT AS HE THREW A TON OF GREY COLORED STAGS. DIDN'T TAKE UM LONG TO FIGURE IT OUT WHEN OUR SHOW WAS ALL GREY'S. TELL BIG CLAUDE HOWDY AND THAT I'M LOOKIN FORWARD TO ANOTHER VISIT.
I DON'T HAVE ANY SEMEN STORED ON THE OLD DOG, AND MAY REGRET THAT, BUT HOPEFULLY WE HAVE DONE THINGS RIGHT AND HAVE A SON OR 2 THAT WE CAN CARRY ON WITH.<v>

Here are two of his albany stags on his yard... plenty game, just don't have the bottom of them ole greys, and hatch have. he is the same fella that bred the greys I have... I bought them from someone else, but he has helped me out alot with em also...

I'll play with the mexicans, but man it's a gamble.

That hatch cock I got with the shaved head won in Sg and Lg... he was a baby stag in the sg show.

WEIGHT

WHAT WOULD YOU SAY THE ALBANY'S WEIGH AS COCKS? MID 4 POUND RANGE? I'VE GOT ONE CARRYING CASE LEFT AND IT HAS ALOT OF 4LB 8OZ. TO 4LB.14OZ. WROTE ON IT.LOL.
ALOT OF THOSE WERE STAG WEIGHTS, OURS AS COCKS WERE IN THE LOW 5'S. WE HAD GREAT HATCH FAMILY ONE TIME, BUT PURE OR CROSSED HAD TO RAISE THEM ABOUT MALNURISHED TO KEEP FROM BEIN SHAKES. WAS ALWAYS HARD TO GET THEM MATCHED UP HERE IN THE BRUSH, SO WE WOULD TAKE THEM TO MISSOURI AND HACK THEM BEFORE THE DERBIES. <v>

yeah, i'd say mid 4's on the albany's, high end being 5 lb or so as cocks... we had one of his albanyxgrey cocks here that won for him in mexican show, then won for us in american show... he was 4.9 if I remember rite, he wasn't too impressive, I ended up giving him to a lady that is fighting breast cancer.

His greys stay at the 5 lb mark, but they are prone to throw a shake... 4.10 would be a small one. The one in the pic above was 5.12... It don't take long term memory for me to remember that one...lol

KELSO'S

NEVER WAS AROUND MANY KELSO'S UP HERE.THOSE PICTURED LOOK LIKE THEY CAN KICK WITH THE BEST OF THEM. ONE OF MY MEXICAN BUDDY'S HAD SOME, HE SWORE BY THEM IN THE SK.
WE HAD SOME CLARET'S THAT WERE GOOD IN ANY WEAPON,BRED PURE, CAME LIKE PEAS IN A POD,LIKE THEY WERE NAMED FOR, THE COLOR OF CLARET WINE, WHITE LEGS WITH A BLACK SPUR. KNOWN TO WIN IN THE FLY, BUT COULD BE TRUSTED ON THE SHORT SCORE AND YOU HAD TO FINISH THEM, THEY WOULD BREAK TIL THE END. BEAUTIFUL BIG STRAIGHT COMBED ROOSTERS WITH UNGODLY POWER AND CUT CUT CUT. MAN, THOSE WERE THE DAYS. <v>

My brother in law raises clarets... his blood came from Ray Alexander... some folks say rays clarets aren't totally game, but we haven't seen it... they are exactly like you described.

I like em, only reason i don't have em is because I only like to maintain 3 families of fowl, and I dont think they could beat these kelso's if shown in a main against them, but he probly thinks the same thing... everyone should, if they don't think that, they aught to get a different family that they like better.

we are partners for all intensive purposes, but he has his brood stock and we have ours... he raises sweater, claret, round head, and uses hatch, greys for crossing... he does alot of the experimental breeding for us.

this is his main brood cock rite now:

Here is another one, not quite as dark: This one we had up, but he didn't get used... we let a boy just starting out use him for a brood cock... If he survives that he will be three next season.

HAVIN TO MANY

THAT HAS BEEN THE DOWNFALL OF MORE THAN ONE CHICKEN MAN. BY THE TIME A GUY MAINTAINS A COUPLE PURE FAMILY'S AND THEN MAKE YOUR BATTLE CROSSES YOU ARE LOOKIN AT A PILE OF BIRDS AROUND. KNEW ALOT OF GUYS THAT HAD TO MANY ON THE SAME GROUND AND TO LITTLE OF IT AT THAT AND THEIR FOWL WENT DOWN HILL BY THE YEAR. NO SUBSTITUTE FOR GREEN GRASS AND MINERALS THAT FRESH GROUND PROVIDES. I ALWAYS MOVED THE BIRDS ALOT, FROM TIEOUTS TO FLYPENS TO SCRATCHPENS TO A PEN WITH A HEN. SEEMED TO KEEP THEM HAPPY ALERT AND IN GOOD SHAPE TO GO INTO THE KEEP WHEN READY TO PUT THEM UP. I ALWAYS MOVE MY DOGS AROUND TO, OLD HABIT I GUESS, BUT THEY SEEM TO LIKE IT. THE FIRST CLARET COCK PICTURED IS WHAT OURS LOOKED LIKE, BUT OURS HAD A BLACK SPUR SAID TO BE FROM COL.MADIGAN BLOOD. <v>

THANKS PAT

I ALWAYS HUNTED FEMALES BACK IN THE DAY AND HAVING THESE FEELS PRETTY GOOD. PRETTY SURE ALL WILL MAKE COONDOGS AND WITH HOW THEY ARE BRED, I HAVE ALOT OF CHOICES AS TO THE DIRECTION TO GO WITH THEM. WE HAVE ALWAYS SAID THAT IF YOU HAVE A GOOD FEMALE, IT'S LIKE OWNING EVERY STUD IN THE COUNTRY. CHOICES ARE LIMITLESS. GONNA BREED OPPY TO SCARLET WHILE THAT IS STILL POSSIBLE, SHE IS DUE IN NOW. THAT WAS ONE OF THE GOALS WHEN BREEDING SAGE TO GAUGE WAS A DAUGHTER OF HER'S BACK ON THE OLD DOG. THE GIRLFRIEND WILL BE BRED TO SPIT THIS TIME. THE HALF BROTHER SISTER CROSSES HAVE WORKED WELL WHEN MADE AND LOVE THE BOTTOM SIDE OF THEIR PEDIGREES. THE WAY THEY ARE SHOULD COMPLIMENT EACH OTHER IN THE PUPS. GEORGIE IS YOUNG AND GONNA SEE THE CORN FIELD RACES THIS SUMMER.IF SHE MAKES IT, WE WILL BE USING HER IN THE PROGRAM. HER PARENTS ARE TOP HOUNDS. <v>

'PR' SKY'S TREEIN BLUE BENTLEY

Every day I ponder the idea of selling Bentley and trying to replace him with an equal caliber dog only in the female version.

If you know of anyone that is looking for a young COONDOG, send them my way.

He'll be 2 years old June 28th.

Bentley is a nice young hound. Finances and time limitations are the ONLY reason I'm not jumping on buying him back. Well built dual purpose hound with personality 2nd to none.

$1500

Hard work is done. Just take him hunting, learn him and pay your entry fee.

If I'm correct without double checking, he has been in 2 bench shows and won BOS w/ comp at Brooklyn's RQE last year, and also won class and breed at this year's Illinois State Hunt. He should have 60 pts towards CH.

Give me a call and I'll take ya hunting.....
