OMG- The Heat!

WOW, a whopping 105 degrees here today, (in the shade). To hot for me to go to the compitition hunt that was scheduled for tonight and tomorrow night. It was to hot to ride my Harley to day. Well, I, did ride it for about an hour, LOL! I'll take me a nap, and hit the woods about midnight....Stay Cool Y-ALL!

My computer crashed-looks like everyone got along just fine without me-thanks for all correspondence. Splitting my time in the woods by going first dark after evening thunder showers or first thing before daylight. Reports from people saying they are seeing coons out in the afternoon-saw a couple myself. These wild hogs continue to be a problem. Had a 22 with me the other morning -popped at least 3 as they ran by. The next morning I took my 224 Magnum Weatherby Mark V. There were about 15-so I eased the crosshairs onto the largest one in the bunch and ever so gently squizzed off a round--gun control! Was wishing I was packing a full auto M 14 or 16-with an educated finger--Cancel Christmas-Rock n Roll. Found a snake in the tree Rejet treed on, the snake had eaten something rather large. Could just hear what would have been said on a competion hunt--that snake swallowed that kitten coon, I could just see part of it's tail, I swear judge!lol Ever notice when the time is just about up shining the tree how many times you hear--here it is -he just looked for a second, right there in those leaves. People talk about how hard it is to find coons this time of year and I agree--it is impossible to find them when they are not there.

CW,

Hey, I thought you just went on vacation, LOL! Coon here, are not moving like they should be. last couple nights, I only had one decent track that lead to a tree. Been in the 80's here at night, with rain. You'd think the coons would be moving better than that. Oh well.... take care Y-all!!!

We're going to have to break down and purchase CW a new computer, LOL! Great to hear the news on Buzz. I went last night, (six drops) and didn't get a bark. Coon must be running early morning here. Buddy of mine went to church today/Sunday, left at 10:00am. When he returned he had a big ole boar coon in the trap. Has the trap setting beside his house, cause the coon been tearing up his trash. Said he's never had problem with coon. First time. I told him I'd take all he can catch, LOL! Safe hunting to y-all!

If you want to get rid of some of those hogs let me know. Best way to get em to move on is to run them with dogs. Im sure we could catch a few of em. It sure is fun..Im sure you would enjoy it.

Chris thanks for the offer on the hogs-as for those that I shot, I'm not expecting anymore trouble from them. Chris posted the question--Who's going to take over? Very good question. One thing it got me to thinking about is the difference I see in the so called stud dogs of today and years ago. Today at a hunt the dog will most likely be found leashed to the tailgate and barking. Back then I would bet they would be found under the truck trying to get a little rest still worn out from all the long hunts from the nights before. Use to love to examine the ears and the muzzels on our old veterans of the breed-scars and portions of their ears missing-flip their ears over, what was left of them and look at where briars kept them a scratchy red color. Do you find that today? Not very often-dogs that kick dirt at sunset and will still be doing it at sunrise. I found it in Ed's Jet dogs and that is the main reason I hunt them now. Just watched the weather report and even though it is hard to trust what they say-I do like the part that said it is going to get dark again tonight.

A man does not have to look to hard to find these 6 Again dogs on this forum. See where the Mad Dog All Jazzed Up female out of 6 Again X Tree slammin Lady is headed no doubt for big business with the Cold Cr. Brummy dog. Will be interesting to see what they produce by breeding along the line and toward their strenghts. She has reproduced by being basically out crossed. Her next offsring should prove valuable for hunting and as reproducers of the same type caliber. The litter from Rejet X Hope in Mich. is interesting too. John those Buzz X Sammy pups sound like they would be welcomed at the feed bowl down here. Rusty your material will be on the way soon. Ed Barnhouse thanks for checking in on here. Eric-we had a couple of less than stellar hunts lately but turned things around by treeing 4 Thrusday night and 3 last night. And sssssh! don't tell anyone but we weren't hunting off feeder buckets--cause some people think that is all we do. So just keep that a secret. Just for the record-we showed Fred Miller and Steve Feilder better venues for the Winter Classic before they selected Albany jmo. I wish em good luck with the switch. I am going to go back and tally up all the places won from my woods over the years. Best part was meeting all the people!

Autumn Oaks

Was wondering how many of this crew were planning on being there this year? I have not made plans because if or when I do something will come along to mess that up for sure. Got one good possibility and if it comes through then who knows. Since Ed is easy to find up there, we would just be together. Starting to sound like a plan-so I had better be careful. The last few years I have not made many events except the Winter Classic and it no longer looks as if it is on my schedule, so that put me to thinking more about Autumn Oaks. Kenny Jones and I are going to try our best to be at the Fall Round Up this year-a great Bluetick event held each year as well. Let us know who is going to be at these hunts? Would love to shake hands, kick tires, look at your hounds and tell a few tall tales-let's hear from you! Looks like we are going to have a great crop of muscadines-trees are loaded. A lot of small grapes are ripe and falling now. This is where a true lay-up dog can shine. Unlike a dog that does not or can not open on a track and just comes treed--that ain't a lay-up like they would have you believe. Lay-up means the coon either has not been on the ground or he was hours ago and he is sleeping up a tree and has been there for awhile. Just the facts Mam!

Making no plans

CW, Is probally a smart thing to do. We're finally seeing the coon move here. We are getting another thunder storm now, as I type, and cooling things down. Hay fields need it bad, although I know I'm not going to get a second cutting, like I wished....But hey it'll be dark soon, and I'm getting ready to hit the woods.

Top Producing Males

Gr Nt Ch Mead's Blue Jet 6 Again's life got cut short-ending abruptly one night hunting out of Ashland, Ohio. This young dog had already won King of Hunt at National Bluetick Days and had placed 14th and 13th respectfully in the Purina Races both years in the few hunts he participated in. 6 Again's real legacy will be his offspring as well it should be. His reproduction percentage right now is a poultry 18.52%-stated in that matter because I know of several of his offspring that are more than capable of being finished that are sitting in pens. There are 3 more that I'm aware of that with any luck will be Nt Ch,s soon. That 18.52% is higher than any male bluedog listed under current or historical by UKC, but could be so much higher and will be! The state of N.C. has a couple I haven't heard a report on in a while. Consider this a poke in the butt--lets get it done. I have told several of you-I will be your number 1 cheerleader. Wishing all of you the very best of luck. They can't win sitting in the pen!

Got my new issue of COONHOUND BLOODLINES and was anxious to read the latest Bluetick articles since all that got staightened out at Bluetick Days. Killing at least a snake per night, sometimes more with the dry conditions. John hope those pups turn out--looks good on paper. We used to say that about the Falcoons-trouble with them was they didn't play on paper, they play on natural grass and artifical turf. Seriously-how they turn out is not effected by whether you planned it or not. It is far from an outcross and not one of these tired "breed the best to the best and hope for the best." Slough-where are you now that you are not going to be nearly as busy this Jan.? Rusty-your stuff was mailed-let me know if that was OK. Sure want to see Eric, Scott and Joe going after grand night ch. titles this season-wouldn't that be nice? The very best to all of you out there--the Ber months will be here soon. This could just be your best one ever. It is thundering and lightning here right now, it may or may not rain--but it is going to get dark! Best day of my life so far.

Posted by Slough on 08-03-2012 01:51 PM:

Well CW, I am sure you enjoyed Mr. Ed's article which was the only 1 I found on Blues. Hot and dry down here, getting a few showers off and on but not enough to fill up anything. Got an inch and 3 tenths last Thursday and Friday, another 7 tenths Sunday. They combined corn Monday, bottoms and all, kinda tells you how dry we are.

As far as Jan. , I got some pups that will be the right age to really start fooling with. I will be busy but with more enjoyment. Get to Duck hunt more towards the end of the season. Everything will work out fine, the ole Master has a plan for all of us, he just dont show his hand till he is ready.

Congratulations to Jacob and Johnny Webb on their 2nd place on Friday night at the Zone 6 BBOA Hunt with Nt Ch Gr Ch Blue Bio 6 Again's Big Boy (6 Again X Nt Ch Notchaway Blue Ticker). Jacob who is 14 years old has won two 1st places with Big Boy and I just felt like they deserved a little recognition for their efforts. Dave Bialik handled these results for our Zone for years and included everyone when he listed the winners. Big Boy was a double winner that night because I hear that Jamie Synder and Lucy were 5th place on Friday night. Lucy is out of Big Boy X Blue Bio Terri Tooker and is only 11 months old!
