Took a ride tonight

I took Lumber hoping I'd find a roader but didn't so I cut him loose he went in about 80 yards opens on track five times and locates and starts treeing. Then the comes out to see where I am. I didn't like that. I said where is he and he went back in and started treeing. He had a litter of coons. Well one came down and went right back up another tree. That is just my luck. Well I tied him up and let him tree for 15 minutes while I took a walk to the truck.
He treed very nice while I was gone.
We came home after this. Not sure why he came to meet me off the tree. He has went in and treed with dogs for a while. I guess this is what training is all about. I'm glad I'm patient.
I need to see him run a good long track and so far I haven't. He is however a quick quick treedog that is accurate.

Made two drops and road hunted with nothing getting done. Saw two coons by someone house of course and on a blacktop road. Well we got some rain so might as well give it a try tonight.

Cut um loose tonight

I had Lumber and Magic. Chris took his Grnt Slick dog getting ready for a Pro hunt this weekend.
We made two drops with four tree 4 single coons. Magic and Slick split both times. Lumber was with Magic.
Lumber treed hard on the last two tree before we got there. First dump he didn't do much. I think the dang shock collar was bumping him for some reason so I won't put that back on him.
I'm really liking the show Magic is putting on when I take him.

Sounder has only been bred once so far. Litter is pending. I hope she has a good litter to pick from.
Why have I not hunted Sounder more. Well I have 3 nite champions and a pup I'm working in the mix.
He hunts hard and not much reverse. Sometimes I feel like taking a walk and sometimes not. He trees coons close but if they aren't moving he will be treed somewhere. My pup likes hunting with Magic more for some reason. Magic is 7 so I have decided to finish him to Grand Nite first then I will finish Sounder and Maggie to Grand Nites as I go. Absoultley nothing wrong with Sounder. Just trying to focus on one at a time and train this young future stud in the process. Anyone that wants to come see him go or any I will turn them loose anywhere they want to see them go. I hope to breed more females but everyone has their own stud dog these days so who knows. I will just keep doing what I do and hopefully people will catch on that I'm packing coondogs that tree coons year around. Well that's my story. Come for a hunt anytime.
At one point I had 4 Grand Nite males here at my house and it is tough to stud 4 Grands. Not a bad problem but still tough.

I am pleased that Jerrod gave Sounder a chance to reproduce. I feel he will be more than pleased if Dixie has pups.
The pursuit of Grand Nites doesn't excite me like it use to after I lost my Roler dog to a car. It took all the wind out of my sails for sure. The last 3.5 years it just hasn't been there for me to go on the weekends and compete. I'm doing a little better this year but you win some you loose some. Life is short and I'm just trying to enjoy it the best ways I know how. Plus I'm a little trashy That doesn't help my weekend hunting at all.
Sounder and Magic are here for anyone to hunt with. Lumber isn't ready for the showcase yet but he is working on it.
I may raise a litter out of Magic and Maggie she will be in next month sometime!

I dont think even I shock collar would faze ole`Elmo's trashing tendensies Elmo how did you fair in the hunts this past weekend? Sounds like Lumber is coming along, still being a little lazy at times the way I read? But I am sure he will catch on to what you want. Hopefully these cornfields will turn that around?

It didn't do any good either night! Lumber has his good nights and certainly his bad ones. He needs fur and I think he will be a totally different hound. He is a very nice treedog.

Sitting in the AC the last few nights. Doesn't look like that is going to change anytime soon.
Couple of hunts close this weekend but I doubt a make it. Who knows.

Took Lumber out alone tonight

He treed two coons. No tracks just winded them and treed. He didn't hunt all that great but the dog can sure find a coon sitting up. I'd say when coon season is over this winter I should have a good one. He didn't get rewarded for is efforts tonight and I hate that. I need to find a dog trainer for a couple of months till season.

Coons run tough and Lumber opened well on track and tree with Daniel Mortons dogs. Two real good running tracks and two coons on the end. Well the first tree had 5 in it. All dogs looked good and treed great.

Keep me posted! Thanks! Magic deserves to be Grand Nite I just haven't hunted him in the hunts enough. Always seem to have a new project and the old dogs go to the back burner for a while. This is why I will finish him first then Sounder and Maggie and hopefully Lumbers turn will be next year. We shall see

First new car I have ever bought right off the truck. 5 miles now the rest I will put on. Dogs don't know what to think.
