HUNT

Looking forward to getting back in the woods tonight. Had to take a couple nights off to go with my wife on a little trip. We will be married 20 yrs this Weds. She understands that I am going to hunt, so have to make some time for her every once in a while. Cool nights and leaves coming off makes a man want to hit it wide open!!

Hunt

Hunted Cotton and my pup Blade last night. Got a late start so I just turned them down the creek not too far from my house. Coons weren't stirring too good and it was a while before I heard Cotton strike. She was over 700 yds down the creek. Drake and I walked down the creek to hear better and Cotton worked a bad track out of the creek and into some hardwood. She worked the track about 300 more yards into the woods and gave me about 4 or 5 locates before settling in on the tree. She treed hard and it took me awhile to get to her. I shined the tree for a long time and with a lot of beating on the tree and vine jerking he still wouldn't look. I caught a glimpse of something that looked like an ear in a fork. I fired a round at it an it moved. Next shot found its mark and the coon came rolling out. Cotton did a good job on him. My Blade pup was about 200 yards the other way opening every once in a while. Had to go catch him. He is gonna be an independent sucker. Y'all Keep'em Lookin' Up!!

COTTON

Cotton got another one treed last night. Looked good. Matt Smith and Drake cut her on first drop as I had Football practice. She went about 400 yds and struck, worked coon up and had the meat. We cut her again with Drake's pup. Pup didn't hunt but Cotton left out and struck at about 375 yds. She worked a sorry track for about 400 yds and treed. Got to her and she was on a loaded persimmon tree. No coon seen. I haven't see her miss but a few times since I have been hunting her. Two persimmon trees and one blackberry bush. Not too bad for a young two year old!! Y'all Keep'em Lookin' Up!! Darren

Hunt

Hunted for a little while Saturday night after the BAMA game. Cotton got treed twice but couldn't find either one of them. First tree was a huge red oak loaded with acorns and the second was a sweet gum tree. Both tracks weren't very good but she moved them out well and treed hard. Needed to roll one out to the pups. That is how it goes, gone try tonight!! Y'all Keep'em Lookin' up!! Darren

HUNT

Took Cotton and my young dog Blade out last night for a little while. First drop Cotton got deep about 450 yds and struck a track. She moved it out well and came back towards us down the creek. She soon loaded up and treed hard. We got to the tree and I seen the coon look right at me but couldn't find it again after that first look. Finally gave up and moved on up in the hills. Cut Cotton alone and she struck in at about 375 yds. It was a bad track and she worked it about 600 yds down the holler and crossed the paved road. She hit up on a tree and treed a few seconds but second guessed herself and moved on up the hillside. About 175 yds later she hit it right and loaded up treed. She treed hard and was on the side of a gravel road. I soon spotted the coon but he quit looking and I liked to have never seen him again. Finally got a good shot on him and rolled him out. He was a good sized boar coon with some age on him. Cotton did a good job of moving out the track and having the meat. Matt Smith was with me and Drake and he is excited to have a brother to Cotton. He has never had a chance to make it but we gone try him. He was in bad physical shape but Matt has got him coming out of the kinks now and looking better. Hopefully he will display some of the traits I have seen from the Logan x Belle cross.Y'all Keep'em Lookin' Up!! Darren

HUNTING

Been going pretty regular. Hunted WEDS night with Matt Smith and his brother. Had to meet Rick Jordan with Dual Grand Vinings Hammerhead that was bred to Logan. She will be headed to Scott's in Wisconsin to raise the pups. After we met Rick, we made a couple drops. Cotton did a real nice job on first track and drove him in deep and got treed. It was a big red oak and we had a hard time looking the tree. Matt thought he seen him a couple times but never could say for sure. Cut loose again and Blade opened on a track but I think it may have been a hog. Cotton came out to me which is highly unusual. I sent her back in and she opened about 5 times and treed. She didn't have a coon which is also unusual. We caught up Blade and called it a night. Gone hit it tonight!! Y'all Keep'em Lookin' Up!! Darren

Got to get Belle here at Southern Bluetick Kennels this week to be bred to Logan. This is a proven cross. I will be keeping a male from this cross for myself. Been hearing good reports from Stanly and Micheal Bowling about Blitz. He is a brother to Cotton out of Logan x Belle cross. Looks like my Uchtman's Blue Lady gyp is showing a little. She has been bred about a month. Looks to be bellying up some. Y'all keep'em lookin up. Darren

Hunted for a little while last night. Turned BB, Cotton, and Rob Miles' Dixie gyp loose. Dixie struck left handed but Cotton and BB never checked up. Cotton struck in at 375 yds followed by BB. They worked a track deep straight ahead of us and Dixie went left handed. Cotton soon located and treed followed very close by BB. We drove up the road and Dixie was split. Dixie was up a big Red Oak and Cotton and BB were treed on a leaning water oak that ran into two HUGE RED OAKS. We couldn't find either coon but probably were both there. Couldn't really see the trees. Hope these leaves come on off soon. Y'all Keep'em Lookin' Up!! Darren

HUNT

Went for a little while last night. First drop we cut Cotton and Matt Smiths dog twister and my pup loose. Cotton struck in at about 700 yds down the creek. She soon left the creek and got treed about 600 more yds up in the hills. She blowed the top out and we finally made it to the tree. She was treed on a hickory that ran into a big pine tree. Couldn't find her coon. We got to truck and cut BB, my nephew's dog Rickett and Twister down the creek. All dogs struck and got deep. I soon heard BB lock down and treed hard. Got to the tree and her and Rickett were treed. Seen coon pretty easy and knocked him out to them. Next drop we cut BB, Cotton , and my pup. Cotton struck followed by BB then my pup. They ran the fire out of that coon. Ended up really deep and we were walking towards them. I stopped and heard BB and Cotton blowing the top out. After a long walk we got to a big red oak. I spotted the coon quick and we rolled him out. Got my pup fired up and we called it a night. Got practice tonight but I will be hitting it again tomorrow night. Y'all Keep'em Lookin' Up!! Darren

PUPS

Well, after a lot of hard work and money and 2 yrs of waiting and trying, I am finally going to get pups from Uchtman's Blue Lady. I spent a lot of time getting her in shape and had to inseminate her 3 times along with the palp smears. She is definitely bred and I'm excited about the prospects of this cross. The sire of the litter is a COONDOG or I wouldn't have bred to him. Razor is a very balanced dog from track to tree. Takes tracks as he comes to them and puts a coon on the end. Good mouth and a solid, CLEAN, chop mouth tree dog. Lady is doubled up on RAMBO, HAWK, BROAD AXE BLUE MAX, SMILEY'S ROCK ANN. Lot's of older blood in this cross!!! Y'all Keep'em Lookin' Up!! Darren

HUNT

Hunted last night for a little while. First drop we cut Twister, BB and my Stroker pup loose in a hardwood holler. They got deep in a hurry and finally got struck. They worked a good track about 475 yds over into the next holler and BB loaded up followed by my Stroker pup. They treed hard for about 30 minutes as it took us a while to walk the 900 yards to them. We got to the tree and they had 2 up the tree and we rolled one out to them. Twister came in late and didn't get rewarded but he really got fired up. Next drop we cut Cotton, Stroker, and Twister. Cotton struck followed by the other two. They left out pretty quick and covered a lot of ground then just quit. Some kind of fast game. I was disappointed in Cotton for this as she hasn't ran any type of off game in nearly a year. She is due in heat so cant tell when them hormones start messing with them. We called it a night and fed and put them up. Y'all Keep'em Lookin' Up!! Darren

Hunt

Made a few drops tonite. Headed home now. First drop we cut BB and my pup. They got deep and BB treed. My pup hesitated but did tree after a minute or so. Got in there and he was split with the meat. Turned Cotton and Drakes pup loose. They struck a good track and worked him thru a huge beaver pond. Pup gave up and came out. Cotton kept on him and got treed. Seen meat but couldn't shoot it out as she was close to a house. Last drop Cotton took us on a trek. I accused her of bumping a deer and fallin off on a coon but not sure. She got treed up a huge red oak and I couldn't find him. Y'all keep'em lookin up. Darren

HUNT

Hunted for a while last night. I can tell you my luck sure sucks here lately. Hit a deer yesterday morning in my work truck. Sucker tried to jump over my hood. Caused over $2000 worth of damage. Hunted last night and another one ran out and I hit it with my little Nissan 4x4. Pushed fender back into the tire and busted several lights out. Had to use jack and push bumper and fender off my front tire. Dang!! Anyway we cut Cotton and Matt Smiths male loose on first drop. Full moon shining and we struck a bad track. Cotton worked the track about a mile thru the creek and into the hills. She finally loaded up and treed. We were able to drive within about 700 yds of her and headed into the tree. She was treed behind a fish pond and I soon spotted a good sized coon. I rolled him out and the fight was on!! Matt's male and Cotton soon killed him and we moved on to different spot. We cut my young dog and BB loose with Twister. They struck and moved a track good. Got deep and BB locked down. We made it within 20yds of the tree and Twister and Stroker were running wide open. BB pulled and went to them. Very unusual for her to move once she locks down but she did. She had the coon too. Anyway they ran about 500 yds up in hills and BB treed again. She didn't budge this time but we couldn't find her coon. We called it a night. Y'all Keep'em Lookin' Up!! Darren
