Ch Utchmans So Blue Lumber

Lumber won another Best of Show with competition last night so that makes him a Champion now. Boy when he fills out he is really going to look sharp. 11 month old and not doing to bad in the woods either. Time will tell.
He didn't know what to think of the water race. I'm glad I didn't enter him. He ran around the pond and treed. He sure does hate a coon.

You are right Elmo, once Lumber fills out a little more he will be really tough on the bench. But if I was a betting man I believe he would move right thru the CH. category right now captain> You keep him in the woods this summer and he will be fine. I hear Lumber's sire and uncle saying finish me out in the hunts daddy!

I'm going to work on it. I need a bench at home to work these dogs on. I'm not a show guy so anytime you want to show him let me know.
I have Magic to finish, Sounder to finish and Maggie to finish and with Lumber coming along nicely who knows by the end of the year.
I need to put my dancing shoes up and put on my boots for a while but this hot weather will not motivate me much.
I had a blast this weekend on the river boat cruise and all that stuff. Time will tell.
Maggie will be in heat in August so I have a little time anyway.

Thanks for letting me breed Dixie to Sounder. I think we should get a super nice litter of pups.

Dixie is a hard going, top track dog with a good mouth. She likes to get by herself, is a quick tree dog, and is very accurate. She typically goes until she gets treed, alone or with company, is a top rig dog, and handles like a dream. She has produced some really nice pups in her prior litters, including Bill Hubbard's Sam dog, and should cross well on Sounder.

Hunted Lumber alone tonight

Well he fell treed on a malberry tree with the meat. I petted him a while and tried to squawl out and right in the water it went and got away. Just me luck. Oh well I tried.
It is warm out side even after midnight!

Cooler this weekend. May try to make it to a hunt. Magic hasn't been out since the last hunt he was in but he is consistent on striking and treeing and staying treed so if I can call him right I will be fine.

Last night

I took Sounder and Lumber. First track Sounder blew in there 500 yards struck a track and had some problems getting it moved through the cut overs. By this time Lumber decided he need to come check and see if I was alright. Well he found out that coming back to me isn't always good unless I call for him. He went back in and about that time Sounder treed and Lumber backed him hit was a big den. I sent them on and the split up about 400 yards away Lumber hit a tree a few good licks but I was to far away to get to him and he came back to me. Mean while Sounder went left handed and ran his track in then continued to look for another coon. He came close to the road so I caught him a called it a night. It's hard to breath with a stuffy runny nose and scratchy throat.
Lumber is coming along nicely. We have plenty work to do but he sure gets excited at tree time. I don't like the giving up on track but he is young and it will come in time. He has got a nice tree mouth and good locate.
I sure can't wait will I can get some cornfield races for him.
I will be back at it tonight if I can get to feeling half way better.
I was good getting a little rust of Sounder. It has been a minute since I turned him loose.

Just got back in from hunting with Maggie, Lumber and Dottie and Betty. Lumber and Betty had a split tree from Maggie and Dottie. They had a coon in a thick Malberry tree well it walked right out down another tree and away it went. Just my luck. Meanwhile Maggie and Dottie treed for over and hour we walked into them only for them to shut up and that was it. Time to head home. I have no idea why the walked off that tree and it didn't make me happy at all. Oh well this is why we hunt.

Hunted Magic tonight

I hunted with Tom Wilbers and Chris Baker with Slick
First dump Magic was first and first with the meat.
Next turn Speed got first and first with the meat
Third drop Magic and first and second with the meat.

Slick did his thing and that walker dog sure can slide under a coon in a hurry

The female Tom hunted made two trees with the males and a very nice tree dog. The 5 month old pup just did puppy stuff.

Slick is tough to beat.

Took Lumber out for is birthday

I had Maggie and Hank Taber took Slug
First drop Maggie trees and move but stays and has the meat. The coon was a nervous wreck and hard to find. Lumber did tree but no track.
Next drop Slug trees. Circle tree
Next drop Slug trees and missed
We went them on and they hunted all over that block Slug comes back about 400 yards and trees with two kittens in a malberry tree. Maggie backs him. Lumber was in the truck. I did manage to do a little training and he is really going to be a nice treedog and real nice tree mouth. He has a ways to go but learns every time out. Can't wait till corn is up and coons are in them.

Sounds like Lumber is making progress. He sure is a looker. I hunted Missy and Zeus two nights ago; it was not a very good outing but the young dog is going to hunt. It took awhile for him to mature but I believe he is ready. I almost talked myself into selling out, but after pondering it around, I decided to get motivated instead. Sometimes it is hard.
Have a great 4th. I am babysitting the smoker all day today. Brisket was on before 5 this morning, ribs and chicken will go on about 1 this afternoon. Take care.

I'm glad you haven't called it quits! As you know it takes patients and time. Heck you trained your first two dogs out of Chief without any old dogs to run with. That my friend is impressive.
Yeah Lumber is coming along fine. He has the tree part down for sure.
I am bringing him along slowly and not rushing anything trying like to get him in the hunts this year. If he makes the grade it will be next year after I put a coon season on him then I will know for sure what I got to play with. He is in and out on getting gone so it might be a minute but I will get him there.

Just got back from at UKC hunt with Magic and we didn't do any good. He split twice with the coon alone and treed second on two other trees and back a dog on a slick.
Called him wrong once to catch up on the slick was not a good idea. Oh well. There is another hunt on another weekend.

Not much to report! Lumber didn't do much. He did go in and tree with Slick the Gr Nite Walker dog. He wants to come back way to much right now. He struck out of the box when we passed a few coon in the road but we couldn't turn him loose. It is hot and I won't push him much till corn is up and I can get some good tracks so I can get to his trees quickly till he learns what I want.
