didnt read entire thread...but my DC30's wont hook up to chargers correctly. blue lights just flicker and wont stay solid. should i just send them in (where is best place to send them) or what? i took the collars apart and the battery wires are still connected, its just like the plastic housing that holds the charger to the contacts is worn out.....they have been hunted hard and used/charged a lot over past few years...

Bruce, sorry I didn't get email notification about your response. I have the wasp on (if I'm correct, it's actually called something else). I have had two map cards and one is the xonhunt brand. They both show up the same. So you reccomend me zooming out further while in place. I looked at my tracks and it's ridiculous. It shows I went in circles and north, south, east and west!! Haha. Thanks!

Larry mine does the same thing. Generally that is because a file did not download completely. I just puts OK and keep on going. I have tried to find the bad file and never did. Just not worth the problem to me as one click and the warning is gone.

DCLM what is the scale on the map when you see the circles. I suggest you track a dog and see the scale you will use when tracking a dog several hundred yards out. The circles your talking about should go away.

TRBT call the store tomorrow and ask for me or corey. Have your handheld with you and we can see what is going on.

I have a 320 Astro and have set the track for the unit (not the dog) to record but not show on the screen. Some nights I have to reset the record but do not show several times because my track will just appear on the screen. Any suggestions? It is not really a big deal just annoying.

Posted by on 01-19-2015 05:41 PM:

Sir, I would set it for DO NOT RECORD. That way your not filling your memory up with stuff your not interested in.
I can't explain why the setting changes on you, I have played with one since you posted this yesterday and I can't make one change without changing it myself.

BLUE SCREEN

A friend of mine just bought a t5 collar for his 320, he upgraded 320 system so he could add the collar ,every sense he did this his 320 screen will turn all blue. What has caused this or what does he need to do to correct this so it doesn't keep doing this.

DC40

Bruce my DC40 drops at around 200-250yds. I put a new antenna on it but that didn't fix it. Any ideas? Thanks. Matt.

Your only getting 200 yards before you loose signal. That is a sure indication of a VHF antenna problem. The Collar and the Handheld communicate the same as many of the handheld radios do and that is through a VHF signal. The VHF antenna on the collar is the long thin antenna. The VHF antenna on the handheld is the antenna on the right side.
Why is 200 yards the magic number. Because without a VHF antenna you can get 200 yards before losing signal. So if your only getting 200 yards then one of the antennas is not working. First thing to do is determine if it is the collar or the handheld. That can be done buy checking other collars on your handheld or checking your collar with a buddies handheld. The collar antenna goes bad from constant flex and breaks the wire inside. On the Handheld the wire at the bottom of the SMA connection generally gets broke form changing antennas and putting the antenna on to tight and breaking the wire at the bottom of the connection. It can also happen if the nut that holds the sma connection in comes loose. This nut should be checked and kept snug.
One other indication of a vhf antenna problem on the collar is the signal will be in then lost and then picked it back up a few hundred yards away. This is the wire in the antenna broke and periodically making connection.

This is why I changed the antenna but it made no difference, my other collars are working fine. The collar charges and links up good too.

Slowpoke here is what I would do. I would take an antenna off one that is working good and swap it with the antenna you have on this collar. Test them both and see if there is any difference.

Check the antenna connection and make sure it is clean and shiny and you have the screw down tight. I am repeating the basic stuff and hope I don't offend you.

If this does not work then I would say something in the internal antenna circuit went bad on the collar and there is nothing left but send it to Garmin for exchange. I hesitate to think it is something in the internal circuit because then you should get ZERO yardage. You can take the antenna off any working collar and get 150-200 yards so that is why I believe we are missing something with your antenna or connection.

Bruce there is a thread on the board "have you ever had this happen" where their garmin compass is showing wrong directions and so on. Some even say they calibrate their unit every time they go, I haven't calibrated mine in at least a year. So why would they have to calibrate so many times?

Posted by on 01-30-2015 03:03 PM:

.

Unfortunately I don't have an answer what their specific problem is. I can tell you what the book says and what I have found effects the compass. Temperature change has the biggest effect. Garmin in warm house then outside in freezing temp. Garmin on truck dash with heater running then outside in freezing temps. Folding antenna folded over the side of a Garmin.

I personally hate the compass and if I owned Garmin I would take it off. I have never used it for anything and Me or any handler I have never uses it.
I use the map page it shows me what I purchased my Garmin for. The dog the distance the track the dog took getting to where he is and any roads that might be in front of him. It also shows me how to get to him if I want to and it has a north indicator in the top right hand corner.
Why would I look at a compass when I know what is north and if my dog is barking I can hear what direction is it. That ardor don't tell me if he is coming or going or headed slight right or left it don't tell me if the dog is working a track he just worked. The map will tell you everything. I also try not to answer compass questions because many get their farming out and they cut the dog right and the arrow is showing left when the problem is they didn't lett it hook up and show where the dog really is. They just start calibrating.
I know many use that compass but I paid a lot of money for my Garmin and I want it to show all the info I can get. If I wanted to look at a compass I would have spent ten bucks for a compass. I have to apologize if I sound like I am in a bad mood today I am. Had three dogs in a hunt last and not one of them treed a coon. They are fixing to be calibrated.

I live here in the Mt and I use the compass as much as the map page. The map doesn't show me how dang steep the hills are and sometimes I can't hear them because of it.

I don't have an answer for your question, but I have owned all there receivers. From my experiencing the compass on the 220 is useless, the 320 a little better and since I have had the Alpha I am like you I may have calibrated it a yr ago.

Cheer up Bruce and instead of calculating those hounds I would just upgrade to Bluetick, couldn't resist...maybe they are blueticks?

I went to charge my TT10 collars in the truck today and they both flashed red constantly instead of just normal red light. so I took them in the house and hooked them up to the house charger and everything worked fine. Is my truck charger bad? What does the flashing red mean?

I personally haven't seen that Jim. I will do some checking. Micooner a blue dog in the future is not out of the question.

That was an issue with older ALPHAS and Collars. Mostly the TT 10. Garmin came out with an update that fixed that problem. Hope it isn't back. It was a geographic thing that affected some people in certain areas. I would say update your system and thing should get better. It also happened with the DC 50.
