I know what you mean about the 80 degree night,s, and dry no water ant where here just in the lakes and they are about 4 feet lower than normal, makes it tough on young dogs, go get'em at the round up.......Gerald

Cool Nites

We have been in a nice stretch of cool weather and the hunting has been great. We are getting a couple of warm days and then back to the cool weather for the weekend. Looking forward to having Heather tuned up for the Roundup.

COTTON

Hunting Cotton alone again tonight. First drop she left hard went 175 yds and just died on a tree. Got to her and she had meat hangin. It just fell out of the tree and she made quick work of him. Cutting her alone again. Full moon ain't helping matters. Darren

Cotton

Cotton got it done again on second drop. Struck track in edge of hills about 250 yds in Bottom. She did a good job as track wasn't too good. She worked him in and gave me a half- hearted locate. She checked and moved on about 100 more yds. She died on a tree right and had another coon. Petted her up good and gone call it a night. Drake got school tomorrow so get him in early. Kept him out til after midnight Monday night. Y'all keep'em lookin up. Darren

Hunt

Went for a while in the rain last night. Got soaked. Cotton left the country on me and took us awhile to track her down. Couldn't hear cause of the rain. Finally found her treed with the meat. I had turned my year old pup loose. He was 600 yds in bottom. Drove around and had to walk in and catch him up. We called it quits at about 10:30. We were wet for sure. Y'all keep'em lookin up. HUNT

Gone get after them again tonight. Loving this cooler weather. Cant wait til I need a jacket. Hate to report my friend Jason Myers lost his nice little hound named Rocky. Rocky was a coondog and a consistent cast winner. Hate it for Jason. Below is a pic of my pup that just turned a year old in September. He is out of Southern Blue Razor which I raised out of my Dual Grand Frosty gyp and Hornet. He carries most of my old blood that I hunted 10yrs ago. I am excited about him. He has been a natural tree dog from his first night in the woods. He is naturally independent and will hardly ever be with the other dogs. I have to go 700 or 800 yards the other way and track him down. Really liking what he has to offer and time will tell what he can make!! Yall Keepem Lookin Up!! Darren

Went for a while last night. Took Cotton , Blade , BB and Major. First drop we cut Cotton and Blade. They hunted hard and Cotton got over on a gravel road. I drove around and caught her up. Blade soon came out and we cut BB and Major. They left hard and BB struck followed by Major. About 200 yds later Major loaded up followed close by BB. They knocked the top out and had a coon. Next drop I cut Cotton and Blade again. They struck immediately red hot. Cotton went right and pup went left. Cotton soon loaded up and we went to her. Viney tree full of muscadines. Couldn't find her coon. Recut her and she went deep in bottom and got treed again. Had her coon. Caught Blade trailing in bottom. Got to truck and three coons were sitting up right at truck. Cotton may have missed them on first cut and treed wrong end. Unusual for her to miss but it happens to the best of them. She may have had him but I think she hit the wrong end. HUNT

Me and Drake went for a little while last night. First drop we cut BB and my Blade pup. Blade hunted out about 175 yds to the left and BB went straight in bottom about 250 yds. About 30 minutes and BB checked in to the truck and Drake loaded her up. Just a few minutes later Blade came in and I loaded him up. I got Cotton out and sent her in right where I had sent those two. She left hard and there was dead silence for the longest time. Finally I heard Cotton open and she was 700 yds in bottom. She worked the track down a creek and into a beaver slash and I heard her load up on tree. We drove around and walked about 250 yds in to her. Wasn't long until I spotted the coon. I petted her up as she did a good job of getting deep with the meat. Next drop I cut Cotton alone and she left out headed down the bottom. She struck in at about 375 yds and worked a track good. Soon she loaded up again and we walked to her. I found her coon again and petted her up good. I drove around to a feeder that I have out to try to get Blade on a hot coon. He was winding when I cut him and started working a track but wasn't opening. About 150 yds from the feeder he loaded up and treed hard. Found his coon with ease and put it to him. Man he really hates a coon and goes crazy when he sees one. He has lots of potential, gone keep him in the woods.

I am very excited about him. Extremely loud and a very nice built hound. He is a little tight on ground right now but is an EXPLOSIVE tree dog. I have very high hopes for him. He is loaded with hornet, scout and hawk blood. Darren.

Hunt

Went for awhile last night. First drop drake and myself cut BB and her son Major. They struck about 150 yds in bottom and worked in to a big slough. Major loaded up treed and BB followed. Got to tree and they were split treed. Found BB's coon after alot of looking but never could see Major's coon. Growed up and woolly tree. Next drop we cut cotton and my pup Blade. Blade went left and cotton went right. About an hour later we drove around and caught cotton about a mile from where I cut her with no bark. Caught up Blade the opposite direction. We cut them again down the luxapililla creek. Cotton soon struck and Blade followed. Cotton worked a track about 700 yds and blowed up on a huge water oak. Had her coon and done a good job on him. Blade split about 75 yds from her but couldn't find his coon. Called it a night. Lookin forward to the fall roundup!! Y'all keep'em lookin up. Darren

Gerald I have made it a point to open my eyes and not be kennel blind to any strain of blues. I also keep my eyes open when I am critiquing my own dogs. Realize what weakness they have and try to improve on them. I also beleive it starts with good females and not just some good bred brood female. That is why I am so interested in your cross with John II. It starts with a good female that has proven herself as a winner. Stay after them buddy. Darren.

HUNT

Took Cotton alone last night and had a sorry hunt. First drop she went 500 yards down the creek and make a big circle and came down the creek bank. Never got struck. I caught her up and recut her in some good hardwood timber. She went 600 yards, never got struck and got close to a paved road so I caught her up. Went to a different spot and cut her. She struck in at 200 yards, but it wasn't a good track. She did a ggod job of moving it on to a gravel road. She ended up crossing and got in a deep ditch. They are cutting timber in there and trees had fallen across and into the ditch. She was really struggling to figure it out and I ended up just catching her and going home. Hope that is all out of her system before this weekend. Looking forward to the Fall Roundup. Hope to see a lot of friends and fellow bluetickers there!! Y'all Keep'em Lookin' Up!! Darren
