RAIN !!

If this keeps up between now and next weekend it will be difficult to convince the rest of the coon hunting world that we have been in drought conditions for all this time. James --my son is working for White Oak Pastures. Organics, egg production and composting-he has a Masters degree and has worked with the Ga. Dept. of Agriculture. Every once in a while he even goes coon hunting with this old man. Received a pm on a female out of the 6 Again X Tree Slammin Lady cross and I appreciated getting this news. My Bonnie female just whelped a litter off Dale Parker's Gr Ch Nt Ch Utchman's Organ Grinder-mother and pups appear to be doing fine at this time. The list of Bluetick Folks attending this years Winter Classic is growing-sure hope to see you there!

Weather

CW, Looks like the rain may be passing Albany... Look's great all week, sunny 70's/L 50's...Look'n good, all up until the Fri, and Sat night Hunt, then looks like it may hit again, and not be as warm. Hopefully that wont hit, and everybody can have a dry head!

CW, all we have got is a drizzle today. Did get 9 tenths the other night. Walked down the middle of the Slough last night kicking up dust. 20 inches wouldn't fill us up to normal for this time of year. There is some good huntin over around Bluffton, have drawn out and hunted in that area a few times.

40 Days & 40 Nights

That is the way it feels as I am posting this. James -you would be hard pressed to find dust up here right now-rain, thunder and lightning, did I mention rain, rain, rain. torado warnings were posted and where am I? In a mobile home-that,s right I'm trailer trash now-at least the roof ain't leaking-yet. Got a call from Ed last night-he and Scott Phillips were on their way home from some dog doings. Ed sounds better every time we talk. This place felt like phone central-with all the calls from Bluetick folks. Do know there are well over 500 entered each night for Albany this year. Any of you listening to Newt these days? No teleprompter! We are sending plenty of water South-so get ready-cause it's coming!

Dale there are 5-2 males and 3 females-was going to give you a call with that info. Everyone down here guessed 9 or 10-she was so big. She is doing great-real calm and careful around them-you just never know with their first litter. Lot of black and rich tan trim from what I have seen fo far. Had coon scent on my jacket-the best looking male pup kept lifting its head up like it was sniffing the air-ot did I just imagine that.lol. we do all hope they will start early-don't we! You are another one I expect to see in Albany-one day closer.

Nope...that pup smelt that scent, by golly, LOL!! Freezing ran gotta love it! Need a pair of ice ski's to feed....Funny watching the cattle try and eat grass icicles. So much for that 50 degree weather we suppose to have.

Got some of it Sat night. Hurt the RQE some, still hunted 31. Tommy Higgins ( Molly) and Clyde Murphy (Brummy) got qualified. I didn't hunt, took over as MOH so Mr. Ed W could get on back over to Tifton with the weather we were having. Gave the hunters a 4 o'clock deadline so they could wait out the weather and stay safe. See ya in a few days!

Between Sat and Sunday nights I have got an inch and a half at the house. I live 30 miles south of Albany. North and east of me got more. Chances all week. May be a damp W-C.

It's a rainy night in Georgia

If this keeps up all week and there are predictions that it will Slough is right-we just may have a wet Winter Classic. We could not buy a good rain shower this summer and fall was not a whole lot different. John glad to hear about the season the dog has had and it sounds as if you got all your pups located. I have some great grand pups off 6 Again here now-looking forward to this spring with the pups and young dogs around here. Right now I am looking forward to the rain just stopping. I know there is a lot of talk on these boards about a variety of subjects concerned with our hounds--my personal feeling is that the main problem is that most people don't or can't hunt enough. There is no substitute for experience! Alot of you could answer your own questions by spending your time in the woods with your dog(s) instead of right here and I'm no different. I do thank the man upstairs that I spent so many years coon hunting before ever going to a competion hunt-notice I did not use the term "pleasure hunt." Back then grade dogs far out numbered reg. dogs and most wondered if it was possible for the reg. dogs to ever be as good. One day closer-hope to see many of you down here Friday in Albany, Ga. It feels like it's raining all over d world!

Grade VS Registered

CW........"Registered dogs will never be as good as the Grade dogs"....WOW, that brings back old memories. I remember Some of the old timers saying this, and sworn up and down that the registered dogs were no count....You got to keep the real blood in them hound's....The people with the registered dog's are ruining the sport....before long the real coondog will be no more.. I want a coondog, not a fancy one, with all that paper work.... Papers don't make them tree coon.... I can still hear them saying that, LOL!

Last night proved to be rather unique. I stayed with my youngest son, Ridge and did not go hunting. My plans have been to lay off my places just in case I end up guiding this weekend. So I settled in for the evening with the intentions of catching up on some much needed sleep. What transpired over the next few hours proved to be very interesting. My phone began to ring. When that call finished, I figured that was it for the night-then another call comes in from a hunter and I was glad to get it as well. Not long after hanging up from the second-yep you guessed it-a third call comes in-repeat of the previous two. When the third one ended, a fourth came in. Four calls -in one evening from hunters reporting good races and good results. All hunting dogs from these crosses made the last couple of years. I can't remember ever having something like this happen in one evening. The three dogs earning their Nite Champion degrees in the same weekend -all out of 6 Again comes close. The fact that the dogs had done well enough that these men wanted to share this with me that very night made for truly a unique evening-thank you-you four and I did get a good nights sleep!

Albany, Ga. USA

So good to see so many Bluetick people-just not enough time to visit for very long with anyone. Slough had that deer behind the head lights look beginning to set it-rough couple of weeks for him,but what a tremendous job he is doing-hope he knows a lot of people are aware of that-doesn't hurt a bit to tell em' every once in awhile. We did not have a good hunt-far from it. We did see coon and a Blue dog won the cast. Now that I have managed to find something good to say about last night I'm pretty well through.......to be continued!

Posted by cwbluebio on 01-30-2012 04:53 AM:

Continued.....

Lots of preparation in the lead up to this years event since I was unable to make it last year. Good deal of anticipation as well. Set my goal pretty high. Twice before the goal had been reached. Back then I was not on the internet and was told a lot of doubters questioned the results of those two previous years and the wins. Most everything went right Saturday night-the coons cooperated by looking once they were treed and/or by just simply being out in the open so they were easily in view of the cast-even if they did not care to look. Nine of the lovely ring tailed critters to be exact. So what could possibly be wrong? This time a Blue dog did not win the cast. Our cast did win the hunt and yes that is the 3rd time but that is little consolation. We ran out of time before we were able to make all the turn outs--if we had been able to make them--well I am just left to wonder how many we could have treed and just what kind of score would have resulted. And no doubt some people will still be doubting--they always do. After all -there ain,t no Coons in Georgia, right??

Thanks for the kind words CW. I do put alot of time in it and sweat every detail. It means alot to me when people like you recognize it.

Had a great week of hunting up until the classic. It just wasn't to be for the blue dogs we hunted down here. As a friend of mine says, the stars werent aligned right for us. All in all, the blue dogs made a very good showing Sunday morning. Did prove that even at the century mark in life, I could still make 4 days in a row with just a couple hours sleep per night. I did sleep well last night, not sure if it was all from lack of sleep or knowing I had 1 more year behind me.

Hope to see ya in March. I know you are also putting alot of time and effort in that hunt.

Later: James

Recharged the Batteries

Took a night off Sunday just to rest. Last night had two men come over to see if Saturday nights hunt had been some kind of a fluke. One hour later Reject and May Flower had done more to convince them than anything I could have told them. Please appreciate that this type of hunting is far from what real coon hunting is all about to me and certainly does not prove how good a hound is. However it is good in certain situations and this was one of those. In that hour they treed 5 single coons-Reject 3 and May Flower 2. Cooking with gas. We made one hollow that may or may not have had a coon in it. Do any of you know Dave Locke from Rockwood, On,Canada? If anyone knows how to get in touch with him please let me know. Have spoken by phone with a few folks and many of them were on their way home. Hope all of you made it home safely. The weather ended up cooperating this year. This next month is the time for me to really lay with it-try to put a little fur in their mouths and coon hunt just like it has been done since man and hound first teamed up. Good Hunting!
