Jared,

I live on the west edge of Clio about 2 1/2 miles west of I-75. Yep, I have known where Linwood is since I was 4. We used to take 13 when the expressway was backed up to head north or when coming home. We would take 13 to Pinconning. We would stop and get some crackers, salami, and cheese. Then we would turn right on Cody Estey Rd to old State Rd to Omer. We would miss some of the traffic that way. Then we would head down 23 to 65 and up 65 to Hale.

In grade school, after summer vacation, I would always say I was to Hale and back several times all summer.lol

You folks are killing me talking about all those Michigan towns. I grew up in Kalkaska, but I got my first real job in Saginaw and was a field tech for a little upstart long distance phone company and I drove all over the Eastern side of the state. From Alpena to Detroit. My memory wasn't quite clear so I just went to mapquest to get my bearings, and jog my memory. I sure do miss home this time of year. Especially since my wife and kids are going to make the trip and be gone for three weeks without me at the end of the month. And the triple digit temps are going to be here soon in the sooner state. That and the hunting here just can't compare to the hunting up there. It just downright makes a guy homesick.

I'll only be-

on the hunts right now so I don't get into any trouble with the law even though my dogs really need to be hunted. Jared let me know when there is another hunt and Dad and I might come up for a couple. He's just getting some good work right know and has to work early and stay later before the rain comes and slows everything down again. See everyone real soon. -Angie

I guess it depends on who you ask. Most of the time, folks can find a coon abut to do damage. As far as hunting down here, I would trade the 9 months up there, for the 12 here in a minute. You all can tree 3 or 4 coons in an hour, we are lucky to get one treed in an hour. The woods are thick and nasty with green briars and all sorts of undergrowth everywhere down here. Not like the nice open woods there. Plus finding a place where folks will let you hunt down here is tough. Something about folks with cattle don't like hounds in their pasture, not like the farmers up there who want every coon dead. It's a different thinking. Then you have coon size. We were up there visiting friends last December, and treed some that looked like decent sized coons here. My friend said they looked like kittens to him. lol Like I said, I would take the 9 months up there anytime.

Larry,

Thanks for the geography lesson. I never doubted your knowledge of the state. I guess that the club in Grayling is going to be able to get a special use permit from the state to hunt state land for thier hunts. So far only costs 50 bucks, but there might be another fee before the process is complete.

Linwood hunts,

The next one is 5/23/06 hope to see as many of you as can make it.

Newhunter,

Is your name really Tony Hughey? Tony lived up that way and now lives in Ok. Oops I see it at the bottom of your post now.

Jared

Saturday works for me. We'll have to watch the weather though , they say it's gonna rain for the next 4 or 5 days.
I don't care to hunt in too much rain , no rain gear.

Had a nice tom , two jakes and 7 hens in that field , where Jared (sp?) got his turkey , tonight. Jordan and I were trying to wait them out when the rain hit. We got soaked ! LOL
They headed in to roost the same place as the others were.

Have the birds been answering any calls? Not mine. This is my boys first turkey hunt and I sure would like him to bag one. Still have the rest of the month.

Posted by jackbob42 on 05-11-2006 03:57 AM:

I'm not Larry ( LOL ) , but yeah they've been answering.
Larry and his boy came over and hunted with me Sunday. We had a good day. Larry made me do the calling. His boy got one first thing. Larry got a shot ( tough one ) mid-morning. We had 1 ( I think ) that we couldn't get to come in.
The I took my son-in-law out in the evening and he got one.
The one we worked on tonight just had too many hens with him. Couldn't pull him away.
Not sure what this rain will do to them.

Steve

Your welcome anytime. Be glad to have ya. I have a knee surgery the day before our next hunt so I won't be able to go in the woods. We should go pleasure hunting sometime.

Hey Angie

I see on the state race list that your dads dog is listed as a crossbred. He is a Walker isn't he? Tell him he can send a photo copy of his UKC papers in to PKC and get him registered as a Walker.

Jared

Posted by Angela Sawvel on 05-11-2006 12:10 PM:

Thanks Jared..

I'll have to do that seeing he is a pure walker hound, I don't know how that got like that. Thanks, Angie

p.s. I get to have knee surgery tooooooooooo, but I think I'm going to have mine wait off until the snow starts flying again and after the ukc hunts all start to slow down in November. See ya around.

What do you need fixed on your knee?

I nead an ACL replaced. tore it over a year ago and was going to wait for winter like you are, but we ended up moving when I was suppose to get it done. So had to reschedule again.

Jared

Knee-

My ACL is also torn, happened over a year ago, just never had it fixed and kept playing soccer until it gave again this year and I'm sick of the pain. Good Luck!! -Angie

Strokin,

We have a few right around my house. We had 7 hens fly over the house two weeks before season. Normally, they roost in one of 4 spots (all within hearing distance of our house). They must have changed their roost because I haven't heard a thing in the mornings. Jared or me haven't heard even one gooble. I don't think they are getting much hunting pressure, but the yotes are very thick.

Bob is right ... they sure are gobbling over by him!

I am a newbie turkey hunter. Frankly, I am not sure I could call in a really dumb blind in one eye jake.lol

PS Bob, I am watching the weather.

Nobody's Coming?

That's a shame, I thought you all were going to be there?

Congratulations go out to "BEAR CREEK JAKE" and Mr. Ben Crocker for another Great hunt and a cast win at the PKC hunt in Chesaning last night. Rain and standing water makes it tough but the old dog pulled through again. Congrats Guys, see ya Monday.
