-- Bluetick Stud Dog Hunt (http://forums.ukcdogs.com/showthread.php?threadid=931)
What you see is not always what you get
I will go along with the majority. But I sincerely believe you should focus on the offspring. An all stud hunt would only show you male dogs. The owners of those good gyps we want to breed would get to look at studs. But only studs. Not the normal range of reproduction within a line. Seeing the stud in action is just one dog. What if he doesn't throw squat? Or just so so. He may look great. And only him. This isn't supposed to put down any stud. I just firmly believe you get the pups, not the stud. All the titles and ribbons and hunt winnings in the world won't tell me if a hound can reproduce. But his pups will tell me all. And what about the females? You need powerhouse females to make a breed strong. Why keep them out of the hunt? A female just might put on the best show of all. If you are looking for an outside influence the female is just as good as the stud. I will go along with the majority. But I believe the general public should focus on the offspring. That's what they will be stuck with for the next ten years. Sounds like a great time in the making.

Here is my 2 cents! Why not have a stud dog hunt one night, and then the next night Let the owner of the stud dog pick 2-3 or however many offspring to hunt the next night. They should know where the good ones are. Also, there are some stud dogs out there that are a little old to be hunting, and some that have passed on, but there is still some Frozen semen. This way people could see some of the offspring go as well. I would let the owner of the stud dog pick the offspring though. I would be there, it would be fun to see some of these dogs go.

My opinion is to do it just like Jess did his hunt with the studs if he is dead and you have frozen semen then bring a dog out of him but if he is worth drawing semen out of then there will already be a stud out of him there like Bullet and Rattler. If you turn it in to a pup hunt everybody and there freind will won't to bring a dog and it will be like normal bluetick hunt because everybody includeing me thinks they got the next big thing.
You have to know what kind of hound the sire is. If you just go by pups you have to remember pups are only half his. (mammy has a little to do with it) If I want to breed to a dog I would like to see him go, unless he is getting very old. If I own the female to be bred, then I know she is half the results of the litter, I know her faults and strong points! Now I would like to know the same on the stud! Only way to do it is go hunting with stud dog!
Mark,
The later in the year the better, for me, or early in the next year. hehehehehehe I am the Head Coach of the Town Creek Bulldogs, 10 -12 yr old Football Team, and it will be tough for me from Sept - latMid Nov. But I will still try even if its on Game Day unless its the SUPER BOWL. We won that last year with the second best team but the best hearted team. But anyways when you figure out a date let me know and I will try and help you if you want me to.
TCB
I concur
I like to see young dogs out of a stud dog go also just to see the results, but for my own knowledge I want to see the dog I'm getting when I bred, as Texhog has pointed out the pup you see is only 1/2 of the package.
Hey, texhog...you guys going to make the hunt in Coalgate, OK this Novemeber?????? We are co-hosting an Bluetick/English event and we are going to have an overall traveling trophy for the winner of this event????
I'll send you some information, but I plan on being there and hope to see John Wilson, Lee Smith, Jim Smalling, Charles Mathews, Dexter Whatley, Daniel Smith, and many more Bluetick folks from out that way. I plan on bringing a few Northern boys with me to ad some yankee spice to the group (LOL)
and it looks like this event might get a turn out as not many major Bluetick events for the Western guys to attend.
Maybe I'll see you there???????

POUNDER, LADY, AND POP A TOP DID DRAW OUT AT THE MICHIGAN STATE.OLE TOP PUT A WHOOPIN' ON US. WE HAD A FEW BAD BREAKS WHERE THE DOGS SPLIT TREED AND WE DID NOT FIND OUR COON BUT WE FOUND TOP'S. BOTTOM LINE IS THAT WE GOT BEAT! HE IS A TOUGH HOUND IN ANY COMPANY! DANIEL IS A STRAIGHT SHOOTER, WHEN YOU SEE WHERE DANIEL AND TOP WINS A CAST, IT IS ON DOG POWER...NOT SLICK HANDLING!
HEY DEALER: LET ME KNOW WHEN YOU CAN MAKE THE HUNT AND I WILL SET IT UP WITH DANEIL. MAYBE WE CAN BRING POP A TOP AND TRAP DOWN THAT WAY OR SOMETHING, BUT LETS GET TOGETHER SOON!

well I've talked to a few
folks around here and they are up to it !!!! Some of the local land owners have given permission to rabbit hunt and pheasant hunt also. We got 6 Bluetick guys that will be glad to guide and put them dogs into some very good coon hunting. Now to find a date that will be good for everyone.
Sept is UKC World
Oct 17 & 18 is the New Southern Fall Classic in NC
Nov 7 & 8 is the New Great Western Shoot-Out in Okla
man.........where does all the time go ??????
I'll throw out some dates after I look over the hunt dates and state laws and see what everyone thinks.......

If I have anything to do with it, you can rest assured it will not happen till all of the ingredients are 100% ready !!!!
We won't have no half a$$'d event thrown together. When its right is when it will be put on........if I'm doing it anyway, as you know I kinda like things to be organized and run smooth, makes it more enjoyable and removes the stress level several peaks down !!!!!! LOL

the hunt sounds good I would like to attend. I would like to see the studs go head to head. I also have hunted with some pups out of pop a top in fact I have a year old pup that spilt treed at 9mo old (top x my grandnite).
Mark, when you guys get this hunt set up let me know. I'm sure other guys that don't hunt Blues would still like to take them to the woods. Thats if its in this area of course. Be nice to see some good dogs hunt instead of the potlickers we have around here!!!!LOL!! Mine included.
Come On NOW !!!!!!!
ole Sam ain't no potlicker (
) he's a nice dog and great for big game (here Kitty Kitty Kitty) LOL ohhhhhhh
all joking aside, was planning on you off bred boys to help out as you got some good hunting to. Only problem I se is I'm gonna have to get a dog that can tree a coon by himself, stay tree'd and have a coon...........
Know where I can barrow one???
I think we would have a great time up here, and lots of coon to tree to !!!!!!!!

Mark, I do believe there was a blue dog on that tree too!!! No it was'nt yours. Who was that guy again?!!LOL. I think the guys would help out with guiding . Maybe even some of the other clubs might consider guiding too. Those that hunt blue dogs from Argyle area or even Cascade maybe depending on how many show . We'd try to keep them as close as possible. The less driving the better. When we going on another fox run? I bet If we had a skunk hunt I could win that too!!! LOL
Ohhhhhhhhh Myyyyyyyyyyyy
lol
Marc....it was a fun hunt wans't it????? We won't get into the other Blue dogs name to save the embaressment of this individual, but I did leave a message for him later going here kitty kitty kitty !
Dan, just depends on how many show up, I think Jess and them will draw out 2 dogs at a time and they cut them loose for 20 minutes, and then alone for 30, or maybe its and hour together and 30 alone, I'm not sure, but if we had many we can draw them out and have those who want to spectate go along and listen and watch.
We'd have to work that out and the major thing would be the # of dogs we had. This could be one of those all night hunting things come in for Steak & Eggs breakfast and go to sleep for the next night.

SOUNDS GOOD TO ME
STEAK AND EGGS...........MMMMMMMMMMMM SOUNDS GOOD TO ME.
ID JUST AS SOON BE ABLE TO COMPARE 4 DOGS AT A TIME THAT WAY I CAN SEE THAT MANY MORE DOGS IN A NIGHT AND MAYBE COMPARE ONE TO ANOTHER......I SAY DRAW INTO GROUPS OF 4...THAT IS IF THERE DOG WILL TREE WITH 3 OTHER MALES WITHOUT WELL YOU KNOW LOL.......THAT IS MY OPPINION AND ILL THROW IT IN THE BARREL OF IDEAS....A GUY MAY GET TO CATCH UP TO 12 DOGS IN A NIGHT WHERE AS IF THEY WAS IN GROUPS OF 2 THEN YOUD BE LIMITED...BUT THEN AGAIN I SUPPOSE IT DEPENDS ON TOTAL NUMBER........WELL IF NOT THAT MANY WE CAN PROLLY ADD SOME TOP FEMALES TO THE HUNT.......
WELL JUST MY VOTE

Who is invited to bring a dog, if everybody that owns a blue male comes you have to many dogs and not the ones that people want to see not meaning to leave some people out but you have to draw the line somewhere if it has to be a grand nite ch or had sired a titled hound or had advertised in the bloodlines or something like that because it will turn into a hunt that a person just wants to take his so-called no named dog and see how he compares to a so-called big named dog and the no-name has everything to gain and nothing to lose and big name has everything to lose and nothing to gain if big name beats him he should have and if he does not then everybodywill talk bad about him. Just my opinion. I believe that Jess's hunt was invitation only for the studs, you might hurt some peoples feelings but you can't make everybody happy.
Very Good Point !!!!!
One thing about that is due to the geographics of where the dogs are located this is something that each area could hold, like one in the South, East, West and North !!
It would just be up to someone wanting to do the work!!!
Your right about someone wanting to bring a dog they own but is not ran in the magazines but would love the opportunity to hunt against the so called big names. It would have to be limited to certain dogs, don't ask me how or who but it will be the hardest part.........
maybe we could invite some of the older dogs, the first year and then work our way down the list

This is starting to get complicated LOL
Oh Well, we'll handle it one way or the other!!!!!!
