I must not have the heavy demands on a saw that you guys have, all I cut is my firewood...I don't use one for a living, so I get by just fine with my ol cheap Poulan LOL...honestly though, I've had it for 4 years and never had a lick of trouble. It starts easy and cuts really good.

My brother has a 36" Huscavara(SP??) and that devil will devour the big trees. I believe he paid close to a grand for it, but if you need to move some big wood in a hurry, it is the saw for the job.

back in February, we had three chainsaws and a log splitter stolen; did the insurance thing.. The people suspected, got away with it.. We just got a call the other day that one of the chainsaws had been recovered in Louisianna; one of the "suspects" MOTHER lives in Louisianna!!! But.. One stihl; two Poulans; and one heck of a good log splitter.....

we run stihls and huskys.we had two identical o44's.the one ran and had no quit in it.the other was 1 year newer and we began having the same problem you are describing.I do all the work on the equipment so it was my baby to figure out the problem.After putting a new gas filter in it ,it ran but not like new.I took the filter off completely and have had no problem since.The other one still has the same filter in it.This is a bad and last resort though as you don't want those wood chips getting in the carb.Stihls don't seem to like dirty air filters either.You might think it is clean but the set up they have on them seem to gather a lot of saw dust.We clean ours after daily use.The other saws don't need cleaned near as often.
We purposely have our saws cut out when you let up on the throttle for safety reasons.
We bought two shindawas recently.They are fast runners and melt through the wood.Those 044 are cutters too.The Huskys are steady cutting and seem like they don't bog down in heavy wood.I make sure they are sharp though all dull saws are dogs to run not to mention hard on the saws.

Thanks. It's going to get new filters on both ends, a new plug and another attempt at adjustment. After that, I have an 026 for sale! lol

We had a Stihl in the sawmill where I used to work. It took a beating, but kept right on sawing.

Been to few woodsmens meets. If you want something for competition, from what I've observed, Sachs Dolmar is the way to go. It is most likely to start on the 1st pull. If you have to pull the rope a 2nd time, you've already lost the contest.

Whatever you do, DON'T get a McCollough! My dad had 3 of em, and they are junk. He gets em cuz they're cheap. Well, you get what you pay for!

anyone seen the "Wild thing" chainsaw at Walmart? Looks like a real animal with it's 12" bar, green and purple paint job, and 2 figure price tag. With a name like "Wild Thing" it must be for the pro loggers or the timber sports people. I was gonna pick it up and see how she felt, but I got intimidated by it's remote control airplane carburetor and backed away slowly from the shelf. I was surprised to see such a fine, deep timber, logging saw at a retail chain outfit like Walmart.

PAPlotts....my Papaw was a logger for many years. He HATED a McCullough (sp?) chainsaw. 'Course that was years before Stihls or Huskies had gotten so popular...he was a Homelite man to the bone. Of course, they could be a real pain in the butt too LOL.

Chapman, I used a few Homelites when I was in forestry school. They worked out reasonably well onst you took off the safety tip at the end of the bar. We also had Stihl's, Husky's, Jonsered's, and Sach Dolmar's. But no McCullough's! LOL!!!

ever use a pioneer.we flat wore one out cutting firewood when i was growing up.it was a good saw but it got to the point that a tune up wouldn't help it.

My Dad had a pioneer--

I got a Jonsered's back in 1979 and still use it every year to cut firewood. When my Dad needed a big log cut for lumber, he would give me a call. The wife and myself cut a tree up last night for some campfire wood this summer. I always said when it got tired I would try a Stihl, but it keeps cutting. The only thing I have done is replace the bar and new chains.

Did anyone ever cut with a Remington? That's what my Dad had back in the 50's. That sucker had to weigh 80 pounds.

Grew up friends with several kids that owned logging businesses (family business, small operation).

In the 80's a Husky was the best cutter out there. It would melt through tough wood without bogging down. You could cut 2 to 1 versus a Stihl. (This was a daily topic of conversation as you could imagine with so many loggers in our class).

The drawback to the Huskys then was the fact that they had to be "tinkered with" more while the Stihls just ran and ran with virtually no maintennance. The Huskys never bogged down and cut much faster, but had to be better maintained.

These guys were professionals so their saws were ALWAYS sharp, they always said nothing was more dangerous than a dull saw.

Saw this first hand while cutting wood every year myself. We had a Stihl, the Huskys just out cut us.

Then when the Stihl finally gave out we bought a Husky in the late 80's early 90's. It was the biggest piece of junk ever. It was always something, bar adjustment, carb adjustment etc. It was 100 times worse than the older Huskys were and to top it off the dang thing was weaker than a popcorn fart. Heck an electric chain saw would have done better than it did.

I been soured on Husky ever since. I gotta get me a new saw now, but as much as I admired the old Huskys I am just as wary of them now.

OT---never used or saw a Remington used, but the 80lb remark made me think of an old Homelite that we used where I used to work. My summertime job for years was on the Parks & Grounds crew at a local country club/ real estate co. We weren't the ones that mowed the golf course...we were the guys that maintained the roads, company buildings, cleared lots, and managed a BUNCH of undeveloped acreage for wildlife (great coonhunting perks lol). For clearing downed trees from roadways and for use on big trees while making wildlife foodplots or pushing in new roads, clearing lots or whatever we had an OLD blue Homelite. You had to oil the bar yourself with the push button by the throttle. I don't know what the bar size on "old blue" was, but it was a biggun. It had been tinkered with and the baffles or something removed so it sounded like a dang Harley or something it would flat bust your eardrums even with ear plugs in LOL...joker was soooo heavy! It was a beast...but if you had to move some big wood in a hurry it was tough!

with the button you had to keep feeding oil to the bar. I was in grade school when Dad left me try it ( today he would be hauled off to jail for letting an eight year old work a chainsaw) well like you said, she was loud and lots of power, and when the bar started to turn brown from lack of oil, I got a kick in the rear (hauled off to jail again for abuse) and was back to throwing the wood on the sled pulled by real horse power! But that brutt never kicked back like these lighter ones do today.

i got a husky 350

its 20" and will strate slide through a 2 ft wide oak. ive used stil and husky id go with the husky anyday. but ive only used one stil and it might have been a bottom dollar one.
