I had an ACHA world champ. Tree dog.
Still got the trophy but the dog , well he didn’t make the cut.

All of these events were popular at one time. The coon on the log event was a blast to watch. Some clubs had a coon in the hole event. They've all gone away now primarily due to the humane society and animal rights people not letting coon clubs use a real live coon; at least in Mississippi. Miss those events. Jr.Steelman
Coon on a log was a little extreme. Too often the coon won.
If the coon on the log event was run correctly, very few dogs actually could take the coon of the log. A lot of dogs would swim out to the coon, bark and come back to the bank. Problems arose when promoters used immature coons. That's when the animal rights groups got involved. They were fun events to watch, especially if the people running them knew what they were doing.
Loose lips sink ships don’t tell everybody your business. They will take my treeing contest when they take my guns !!

The daytime events like these brought people to the clubs. A lot of people were diehard coon hunters and dog men. but just didn't care much for the hunts. They would come and enter all these events and spend the day at the club. A lot of older men had something to do with their dogs when they could no longer keep up in the hunts. On the other side, a lot of young hunters got their introduction to competition by entering the day events. It would be good for the clubs to try them again. Jr.Steelman
