-- Things that make you panic hunting ? (http://forums.ukcdogs.com/showthread.php?threadid=928528991)
Ran a coon one night out of a woods to a barn and when I got to the barn it had 3 classic antique car’s restored in it with covers on them and to say the least my dog was standing on top of one treeing on the column right beside the car ... .. didn’t take long to get out or there!!
YOU GET TO YOUR DOG AND ITS 60 FOOT UP IN THE TOP OF A LEANING TREE ...
THATS ALWAYS NICE
When your dog trees in someones front yard and by the time you get to em they got the bark chewed off a fancy tree

One night I was hunting a very nice dog for another man. She had won a bunch of big hunts, led her Breed Race and placed in Top 100 of UKC World twice. She treed and when I got to her she was 60 feet up in a leaning tree. She slipped and fell just as I got there and hit the ground with a big loud thud that could be heard throughout the woods. I panicked, fell on my knees and had a mini heart attack. I was going over in my mind what to tell her owner when she slowly got up, shook her head and went back to treeing. I didn't know whether to hug her or kill her myself.

Just imagine the sound a 60 lb coon would make when it hits the ground.
Got to tree one night had 2 dogs up tree prob 20 foot. First fell and broke hip never same second was younger pup prob 40 pounds. I tried catch him. Caught him by collar enough break his fall enough not hurt him.

A dog on thin ice on big pond will make man nervous.

Dog and coon in big water and the coon gets on his head and takes the dog under. Water gets still and your hoping he'll pop up. Had one that didn't. Only way to have got to him was swim.

coon on dogs head in big water
That is a bad feeling. I saw it happen twice. I was a kid the first time. The second time the dog and coon separated and came to the surface just before I jumped in.
Dogs get treed and me and the guy I was hunting with just got the dogs tied up and are standing side-by-side looking at the tree. All of the sudden we hear a loud voice behind us, "Can I help you fellers with something?"
I about jumped out of my boots. I had just moved to the area and had never hunted that spot and didn't realize the dogs were treed 50 yards off someone's back yard. Luckily the guy was very friendly but I was a little nervous for a minute.

This story could go in this thread or the "Be honest... who else" thread. In 2002 I bought a new 660 Yamaha Grizzly. That night I took a pup hunting with it. The pup treed about 400 yards from me. The woods were fairly open so I decided to ride the ATV to the tree. About 200 yards from the tree on the edge of a swamp I ran into thick palmettos. Without thinking I jumped off and got to tree as quickly as I could. After getting the coon out for the pup, I realized I didn't know where my ATV was. I left it in thick palmettos about six feet tall so I would have walk right on it to see it. $125 a month for 48 months. I took me about 1 1/2 hours, before I found it. I don't know if any of you ever kissed an ATV, but I did.

You reach for your Garmin to check on the dogs and realize that it’s gone, and the last time you remember looking at it was about 2 miles, 11 ridges and 4 briar thickets ago!

Garmins
It funny how attached we have gotten to the Garmin, I would not think about turning s dog loose without a Garmin collar on them. I love knowing where my dogs are ALL the time. I have forgotten my handheld and or collar at different times and just would not hunt. Dave

A week ago tomorrow I was hunting with a former hunting partner we hadn’t been hunting together in a long time.we met up and went to a place we used to go on occasion. The dogs struck they kept getting closer to a four lane called bluegrass parkway it was well over a mile a way. When they got close we lost signal on tracker. On the screen it looked like my dog was going down the parkway. His dog was coming back panic set in for me. Long story short we got his dog jumped in truck and headed that way. He had crossed the parkway and another well traveled road and was treed in the middle of a field with one big tree in it. Coon seen and underwear changed. Lol

Try being met coming out of the woods when you just came away from someones moonshine still or marajuana patch. I've had both happen.
The buzzing sound of a timber rattler.the sudden explosion of a covey of busting
Under your feet

Now the quail might scare me momentarily, but that rattlesnake buzzing would end my hunting for the night. Don't like snakes. Dave

2:00 am and it’s 23 degrees
A bathroom pain hits you (no.2)
You begin to take the many layers of clothes down.
You do your business. Get up and pull up all the clothes.
You turn around and to your amazement there is nothing behind you. You can smell it but you can’t find it.!!!
That panic as you slowly begin to ease your coverall back down.

The sound of a 12 gauge pump getting a shell racked into the chamber about 8 feet behind ya when you are hunting by yourself.
I was about 18 years old trying to catch a fox crazy blue dog for the past 3 hours. At that point I didn't have a clue whose property I was on.
Funny how vividly some memories can be.
