Well.. Moonie went in for an Emergency C section. 1 huge male pup, stuck in tbe birth canal. Dead. Shut off Bladder. Bladder turned black. She is staying overnight and we are hoping she doesn't go septic. Moonie could still die, or best case scenario, spayed.
This has taken the wind right out of my sails. I am looking to quit coonhunting. I am too old for this not to affect me. $3,000 and could lose my dog. I did everything right and spared no expense.
I have dogs, Owen dog boxes, trackers, shockers, lights, everything as soon as I get it together.
Sorry to disappoint anyone that wanted a puppy. First time since I started breeding in1978 that I've had any major problems. I was really looking forward to this cross.. and finishing Moonie into Dual Gr.

I am so sorry this Happened. You have been at it since 1978. I pray that Moonie will be alright. Your time with dogs is not up. Take a deep breath and give it a little time before you go posting things for sale. Above all you love your dogs or you wouldn't have wonder around in the dark this long and that is enough to make you stop and think. Time with my dogs and in the beautiful woods is like a vacation to me. Just give it some time before you put everything up for sale. It will sale a month from now just like it will tomorrow. Wait. Moonie is home. On a ton of meds. Acting better, still not eating much. Didn't have to have her spayed. Vet is hopeful that " That strong willed lil girl will fight through this and make a complete recovery". During the C section, he was very doubtful as her bladder had turned black. The only puppy she had was 10" long and bigger than most German Shepard pups. Vet's words. After staying in ICU, she responded very well to treatment.
My hat goes off to North Ridgeville Animal Hospital. In ICU, you can talk to a nurse all night long. They were very supportive. Even the nurses said she was a "fan favorite". Even in pain, would walk on the leash, wag her tail over attention and never not give a 'lick' when checking stitches.
Anyway, $3,200 total but I have my dog home. If everything goes well, 4 weeks I can hunt her again.

Had she had more than 1 pup, it wouldn't have grown so big. She seems to be improving quickly. Keep your fingers crossed for her

I'm so sorry for your loss of the pup and the trauma your hound went through. I hope she fully recovers with no lasting problems. Don't give up on the hounds and hunting yet. Just give yourself some time. It's a setback but you'll get through it. The coon hunting community needs dedicated, knowledgeable folks.
