Yes, I agree, as I too have seen open trailing dogs tighten or go silient as they got older and smarter. Not all dogs do this, but some sure do. Dave

This post and your later post were two of the best posts on this board. IMO
You speak the truth that some don't want to hear.
Comp hunt rules haven't always helped the way some train their hounds. I feel as long as they're giving up to a 75 pt advantage for barking 1st you'll always have babblers, booger barkers, ghost chasers and the issues that always come with that. I too like an open trailing hound, but agree, a good coonhound is a good coonhound. It would be great if we could prove just what every open hound is ACTUALLY opening on (if anything), but that is IMPOSSIBLE and so that issue will never end as structured.
At least now they better get their own or get there fast.
