Someone told me Hunt numbers are down?

Maybe there are people not willing to play the game anymore the way it has become😉😉

From my perspective much of the problem is that little 5 letter word, M-O-N-E-Y!

Back in the late 70's and through the 80's there was money to be made in coon hides. People who were in it for the money didn't care about the"quality" of the dogs performance just the number of coons they could kill. No consideration for managing the population so they could enjoy the sport in the future.

Then the money hunts started. Somehow money can change people's perspective on the true value of things. We all need a certain amount of it to live yet when improper perspective and significance on money are assigned to to what was once considered a recreation for enjoyment the hound quality suffers.

Take the money out of both the hides and the competition hunts and you'll be left with people who hunt, breed and train hounds because it's in their blood to do so.

But a lying man and a lying dog can still win hunts !

1. Struck on the babble
2. Circle slicks
3. Use a garmin to walk into hearing of an unheard dog

Ect,ect,ect

Just think of this our old rules just reminiscing. You had no tracking system so a dog out of pocket you could not hear got you scratched. A dog got minused twice for babbling third time got scratched. Dogs got scratched for fighting or attempting to fight no let um rumble rule. Dogs treed more coons because those competition dogs were also the family's hide dog we had no money hunts the dog earned his keep.

Tuffer gig back then.

I agree with just about every thing you are saying, and I suspect most of us old timers do as well. Therefore, you are preaching to the choir. Lol. Besides getting it off your chest, there isn't much WE can do to restore those glory days, really wish there was. However, we can control what we hunt be it pleasure hunting or competition hunting. I really don't care what the other man hunts, and I will do my best to keep any cast I am in honest, that's about all any of us can do. Lol. Dave

Tar

Been fishing? We have started Walleye fishing some, caught a few but waiting on the "bite" should start pretty soon. Hummmmmmmm good eating, just can't beat Walleye and Crappie fillets. My soon hunting is over until this Fall, I quit summer hunting several years ago. Might make a few night hunts this year, just to help the local clubs, get on one of the senior casts as Tim suggested. Lol. Dave
